[EN] Hypoxia-induced hyperventilation is critical to improve blood oxygenation, particularly when the arterial Po2 lies in the steep region of the O2 dissociation curve of the hemoglobin (ODC). Hyperventilation increases alveolar Po2 and, by increasing pH, left shifts the ODC, increasing arterial saturation (Sao2) 6 to 12 percentage units. Pulmonary gas exchange (PGE) is efficient at rest and, hence, the alveolar-arterial Po2 difference (Pao2-Pao2) remains close to 0 to 5mm Hg. The (Pao2-Pao2) increases with exercise duration and intensity and the level of hypoxia. During exercise in hypoxia, diffusion limitation explains most of the additional Pao2-Pao2. With altitude, acclimatization exercise (Pao2-Pao2) is reduced, but does not reach the low values observed in high altitude natives, who possess an exceptionally high DLo2. Convective O2 transport depends on arterial O2 content (Cao2), cardiac output (Q), and muscle blood flow (LBF). During whole-body exercise in severe acute hypoxia and in chronic hypoxia, peak Q and LBF are blunted, contributing to the limitation of maximal oxygen uptake (Vo2max). During small-muscle exercise in hypoxia, PGE is less perturbed, Cao2 is higher, and peak Q and LBF achieve values similar to normoxia. Although the Po2 gradient driving O2 diffusion into the muscles is reduced in hypoxia, similar levels of muscle O2 diffusion are observed during small-mass exercise in chronic hypoxia and in normoxia, indicating that humans have a functional reserve in muscle O2 diffusing capacity, which is likely utilized during exercise in hypoxia. In summary, hypoxia reduces Vo2max because it limits O2 diffusion in the lung.

La tesi tratta di strumenti finalizzati alla valutazione dello stato conservativo e di supporto all'attività di manutenzione dei ponti, dai più generali Bridge Management Systems ai Sistemi di Valutazione Numerica della Condizione strutturale. Viene proposto uno strumento originale con cui classificare i ponti attraverso un Indice di Valutazione Complessiva e grazie ad esso stabilire le priorità d'intervento. Si tara lo strumento sul caso pratico di alcuni ponti della Provincia di Bologna. Su un ponte in particolare viene realizzato un approfondimento specifico sulla determinazione approssimata dei periodi propri delle strutture da ponte. Si effettua un confronto dei risultati di alcune modellazioni semplificate in riferimento a modellazioni dettagliate e risultati sperimentali.

[EN] This paper analyzes the detection and localization performance of the participating face and eye algorithms compared with the Viola Jones detector and four leading commercial face detectors. Performance is characterized under the different conditions and parameterized by per-image brightness and contrast. In localization accuracy for eyes, the groups/companies focusing on long-range face detection outperform leading commercial applications.

[ES]El spam, o correo no deseado enviado masivamente, es una amenaza que afecta al correo electrónico y otros medios de comunicación telemática. Su alto volumen de circulación genera pérdidas temporales y económicas considerables. Se presenta una solución a este problema: un sistema inteligente híbrido de filtrado antispam, basado en redes neuronales artificiales (RNA) no supervisadas. Consta de una etapa de preprocesado y de otra de procesado, basadas en distintos modelos de computación: programada (con 2 fases: manual y computacional) y neuronal (mediante mapas autoorganizados de Kohonen, SOM), respectivamente. Este sistema ha sido optimizado usando, como cuerpo de datos, ham de “Enron Email” y spam de dos fuentes diferentes. Se analiza la calidad y el rendimiento del mismo mediante diferentes métricas.

“Il tocco pianistico: premesse storiche e sviluppi scientifici” si pone l’obiettivo di provare la politimbricità del pianoforte. A tal fine, ho indagato la relazione tra il gesto, la meccanica del pianoforte e il suono, problema sfiorato da alcuni maestri del Novecento, ma mai approfondito e sviscerato per ovvie ragioni riguardanti la mancanza di una tecnologia idonea e competenze difficili da trovare in una medesima persona. Per quest’ultima ragione mi sono avvalsa della collaborazione sia del Laboratorio di Anatomia Funzionale dell'Apparato Locomotore del Dipartimento di Morfologia Umana dell’Università di Milano, dove lavorano esperti delle più moderne tecnologie idonee alla registrazione del movimento, sia dell’ingegnere Alberto Amendola, docente a contratto di Acustica musicale presso l’Università di Parma per ciò che concerne l’analisi del suono e i rilievi acustici. La tesi si articola in due parti organizzate in quattro capitoli. Nel primo, La didattica pianistica nel primo trentennio del Novecento: il tocco e il timbro come parole chiave, dopo aver tracciato un quadro generale riguardante i concetti di ‘tocco’ e ‘timbro’ incontrati nei metodi e trattati del Sette/Ottocento, già affrontati nella tesi di laurea, procedo ad analizzare alcuni dei lavori più rappresentativi scritti tra la fine dell’Ottocento e gli anni Trenta del Novecento (The Leschetizky Method. A Guide to Fine and Correct Piano Playing di Malwine Brée, Über die physiologischen Fehler und die Umgestaltung der Klaviertechnik di Albert Maria Steinhausen, Die Grundlagen der Klaviertechnik di Rudolph Maria Breithaupt e The Phisiological Mechanics of Piano Technique di Otto Ortmann). Tali studi presentano una parte dedicata alle diverse modalità di produzione sonora e, quasi tutti, giungono ad una medesima conclusione: pur nella sua ricchezza, il pianoforte è uno strumento monotimbrico, dove la differenza tra i suoni è data dall’intensità e dall’agogica. Al fine di provare la politimbricità del pianoforte, il mio percorso di studi si è scontrato sia con la meccanica del pianoforte sia con l’acustica musicale. Ho fatto precedere quindi l’indagine scientifica, che confluisce nel capitolo IV, da una sezione in cui presento l’evoluzione della meccanica del pianoforte fino a giungere alla descrizione della meccanica moderna (capitolo II, Il Pianoforte: meccanica e modalità di produzione del suono), e da un’altra in cui affronto i fondamenti di acustica musicale, al fine di fornire al lettore i mezzi basilari per cimentarsi con la parte scientifica (capitolo III, Cenni di acustica musicale). Il capitolo IV è il resoconto organico e sistematico delle sperimentazioni svolte durante il dottorato presso il laboratorio di Anatomia funzionale dell’apparato locomotore dell’Università di Milano. La presentazione ripercorre necessariamente le tappe della ricerca considerata la novità assoluta dell’oggetto indagato. All’illustrazione dei dati di ogni fase segue sempre la discussione e l’interpretazione dei risultati per garantire la validità dell’esperimento. L’interesse della ricerca è stato condiviso oltre che dal dipartimento di Anatomia, anche dalla casa costruttrice di pianoforti Bechstein che ha costruito una meccanica speciale, e dalla ditta di pianoforti Angelo Fabbrini, che ha messo a disposizione un mezza coda Bechstein per effettuare i rilievi. Il capitolo IV, che rappresenta, dunque, il cuore della presente dissertazione dottorale, dimostra che il pianoforte è uno strumento politimbrico: mettendo in relazione il gesto pianistico, la reazione della meccanica e il suono è risultato che al movimento del martello, ripetibilmente diverso a seconda del tocco pianistico, corrisponde una reazione acustica che varia ripetibilmente in maniera differente a seconda del tocco.

The consumption of specific functional foods (FF) and some determinants of FF item selection were assessed using a questionnaire administered to 1112 individuals in the Canary Islands (Spain). I Max Bill is an intense giornata of a big fresco. An analysis of the main social, artistic and cultural events throughout the twentieth century is needed in order to trace his career through his masterpieces and architectures. Some of the faces of this hypothetical mural painting are, among others, Le Corbusier, Walter Gropius, Ernesto Nathan Rogers, Kandinskij, Klee, Mondrian, Vatongerloo, Ignazio Silone, while the backcloth is given by artistic avant-gardes, Bauhaus, International Exhibitions, CIAM, war events, reconstruction, Milan Triennali, Venice Biennali, the School of Ulm. Architect, even though more known as painter, sculptor, designer and graphic artist, Max Bill attends the Bauhaus as a student in the years 1927-1929, and from this experience derives the main features of a rational, objective, constructive and non figurative art. His research is devoted to give his art a scientific methodology: each work proceeds from the analysis of a problem to the logical and always verifiable solution of the same problem. By means of composition elements (such as rhythm, seriality, theme and its variation, harmony and dissonance), he faces, with consistent results, themes apparently very distant from each other as the project for the H.f.G. or the design for a font. Mathematics are a constant reference frame as field of certainties, order, objectivity: ‘for Bill mathematics are never confined to a simple function: they represent a climate of spiritual certainties, and also the theme of non attempted in its purest state, objectivity of the sign and of the geometrical place, and at the same time restlessness of the infinity: Limited and Unlimited ’. In almost sixty years of activity, experiencing all artistic fields, Max Bill works, projects, designs, holds conferences and exhibitions in Europe, Asia and Americas, confronting himself with the most influencing personalities of the twentieth century. In such a vast scenery, the need to limit the investigation field combined with the necessity to address and analyse the unpublished and original aspect of Bill’s relations with Italy. The original contribution of the present research regards this particular ‘geographic delimitation’; in particular, beyond the deep cultural exchanges between Bill and a series of Milanese architects, most of all with Rogers, two main projects have been addressed: the realtà nuova at Milan Triennale in 1947, and the Contemporary Art Museum in Florence in 1980. It is important to note that these projects have not been previously investigated, and the former never appears in the sources either. These works, together with the most well-known ones, such as the projects for the VI and IX Triennale, and the Swiss pavilion for the Biennale, add important details to the reference frame of the relations which took place between Zurich and Milan. Most of the occasions for exchanges took part in between the Thirties and the Fifties, years during which Bill underwent a significant period of artistic growth. He meets the Swiss progressive architects and the Paris artists from the Abstraction-Création movement, enters the CIAM, collaborates with Le Corbusier to the third volume of his Complete Works, and in Milan he works and gets confronted with the events related to post-war reconstruction. In these years Bill defines his own working methodology, attaining an artistic maturity in his work. The present research investigates the mentioned time period, despite some necessary exceptions. II The official Max Bill bibliography is naturally wide, including spreading works along with ones more devoted to analytical investigation, mainly written in German and often translated into French and English (Max Bill himself published his works in three languages). Few works have been published in Italian and, excluding the catalogue of the Parma exhibition from 1977, they cannot be considered comprehensive. Many publications are exhibition catalogues, some of which include essays written by Max Bill himself, some others bring Bill’s comments in a educational-pedagogical approach, to accompany the observer towards a full understanding of the composition processes of his art works. Bill also left a great amount of theoretical speculations to encourage a critical reading of his works in the form of books edited or written by him, and essays published in ‘Werk’, magazine of the Swiss Werkbund, and other international reviews, among which Domus and Casabella. These three reviews have been important tools of analysis, since they include tracks of some of Max Bill’s architectural works. The architectural aspect is less investigated than the plastic and pictorial ones in all the main reference manuals on the subject: Benevolo, Tafuri and Dal Co, Frampton, Allenspach consider Max Bill as an artist proceeding in his work from Bauhaus in the Ulm experience . A first filing of his works was published in 2004 in the monographic issue of the Spanish magazine 2G, together with critical essays by Karin Gimmi, Stanislaus von Moos, Arthur Rüegg and Hans Frei, and in ‘Konkrete Architektur?’, again by Hans Frei. Moreover, the monographic essay on the Atelier Haus building by Arthur Rüegg from 1997, and the DPA 17 issue of the Catalonia Polytechnic with contributions of Carlos Martì, Bruno Reichlin and Ton Salvadò, the latter publication concentrating on a few Bill’s themes and architectures. An urge to studying and going in depth in Max Bill’s works was marked in 2008 by the centenary of his birth and by a recent rediscovery of Bill as initiator of the ‘minimalist’ tradition in Swiss architecture. Bill’s heirs are both very active in promoting exhibitions, researching and publishing. Jakob Bill, Max Bill’s son and painter himself, recently published a work on Bill’s experience in Bauhaus, and earlier on he had published an in-depth study on ‘Endless Ribbons’ sculptures. Angela Thomas Schmid, Bill’s wife and art historian, published in end 2008 the first volume of a biography on Max Bill and, together with the film maker Eric Schmid, produced a documentary film which was also presented at the last Locarno Film Festival. Both biography and documentary concentrate on Max Bill’s political involvement, from antifascism and 1968 protest movements to Bill experiences as Zurich Municipality councilman and member of the Swiss Confederation Parliament. In the present research, the bibliography includes also direct sources, such as interviews and original materials in the form of letters correspondence and graphic works together with related essays, kept in the max+binia+jakob bill stiftung archive in Zurich. III The results of the present research are organized into four main chapters, each of them subdivided into four parts. The first chapter concentrates on the research field, reasons, tools and methodologies employed, whereas the second one consists of a short biographical note organized by topics, introducing the subject of the research. The third chapter, which includes unpublished events, traces the historical and cultural frame with particular reference to the relations between Max Bill and the Italian scene, especially Milan and the architects Rogers and Baldessari around the Fifties, searching the themes and the keys for interpretation of Bill’s architectures and investigating the critical debate on the reviews and the plastic survey through sculpture. The fourth and last chapter examines four main architectures chosen on a geographical basis, all devoted to exhibition spaces, investigating Max Bill’s composition process related to the pictorial field. Paintings has surely been easier and faster to investigate and verify than the building field. A doctoral thesis discussed in Lausanne in 1977 investigating Max Bill’s plastic and pictorial works, provided a series of devices which were corrected and adapted for the definition of the interpretation grid for the composition structures of Bill’s main architectures. Four different tools are employed in the investigation of each work: a context analysis related to chapter three results; a specific theoretical essay by Max Bill briefly explaining his main theses, even though not directly linked to the very same work of art considered; the interpretation grid for the composition themes derived from a related pictorial work; the architecture drawing and digital three-dimensional model. The double analysis of the architectural and pictorial fields is functional to underlining the relation among the different elements of the composition process; the two fields, however, cannot be compared and they stay, in Max Bill’s works as in the present research, interdependent though self-sufficient. IV An important aspect of Max Bill production is self-referentiality: talking of Max Bill, also through Max Bill, as a need for coherence instead of a method limitation. Ernesto Nathan Rogers describes Bill as the last humanist, and his horizon is the known world but, as the ‘Concrete Art’ of which he is one of the main representatives, his production justifies itself: Max Bill not only found a method, but he autonomously re-wrote the ‘rules of the game’, derived timeless theoretical principles and verified them through a rich and interdisciplinary artistic production. The most recurrent words in the present research work are synthesis, unity, space and logic. These terms are part of Max Bill’s vocabulary and can be referred to his works. Similarly, graphic settings or analytical schemes in this research text referring to or commenting Bill’s architectural projects were drawn up keeping in mind the concise precision of his architectural design. As for Mies van der Rohe, it has been written that Max Bill took art to ‘zero degree’ reaching in this way a high complexity. His works are a synthesis of art: they conceptually encompass all previous and –considered their developments- most of contemporary pictures. Contents and message are generally explicitly declared in the title or in Bill’s essays on his artistic works and architectural projects: the beneficiary is invited to go through and re-build the process of synthesis generating the shape. In the course of the interview with the Milan artist Getulio Alviani, he tells how he would not write more than a page for an essay on Josef Albers: everything was already evident ‘on the surface’ and any additional sentence would be redundant. Two years after that interview, these pages attempt to decompose and single out the elements and processes connected with some of Max Bill’s works which, for their own origin, already contain all possible explanations and interpretations. The formal reduction in favour of contents maximization is, perhaps, Max Bill’s main lesson.

Due to the growing attention of consumers towards their food, improvement of quality of animal products has become one of the main focus of research. To this aim, the application of modern molecular genetics approaches has been proved extremely useful and effective. This innovative drive includes all livestock species productions, including pork. The Italian pig breeding industry is unique because needs heavy pigs slaughtered at about 160 kg for the production of high quality processed products. For this reason, it requires precise meat quality and carcass characteristics. Two aspects have been considered in this thesis: the application of the transcriptome analysis in post mortem pig muscles as a possible method to evaluate meat quality parameters related to the pre mortem status of the animals, including health, nutrition, welfare, and with potential applications for product traceability (chapters 3 and 4); the study of candidate genes for obesity related traits in order to identify markers associated with fatness in pigs that could be applied to improve carcass quality (chapters 5, 6, and 7). Chapter three addresses the first issue from a methodological point of view. When we considered this issue, it was not obvious that post mortem skeletal muscle could be useful for transcriptomic analysis. Therefore we demonstrated that the quality of RNA extracted from skeletal muscle of pigs sampled at different post mortem intervals (20 minutes, 2 hours, 6 hours, and 24 hours) is good for downstream applications. Degradation occurred starting from 48 h post mortem even if at this time it is still possible to use some RNA products. In the fourth chapter, in order to demonstrate the potential use of RNA obtained up to 24 hours post mortem, we present the results of RNA analysis with the Affymetrix microarray platform that made it possible to assess the level of expression of more of 24000 mRNAs. We did not identify any significant differences between the different post mortem times suggesting that this technique could be applied to retrieve information coming from the transcriptome of skeletal muscle samples not collected just after slaughtering. This study represents the first contribution of this kind applied to pork. In the fifth chapter, we investigated as candidate for fat deposition the TBC1D1 [TBC1 (tre-2/USP6, BUB2, cdc16) gene. This gene is involved in mechanisms regulating energy homeostasis in skeletal muscle and is associated with predisposition to obesity in humans. By resequencing a fragment of the TBC1D1 gene we identified three synonymous mutations localized in exon 2 (g.40A>G, g.151C>T, and g.172T>C) and 2 polymorphisms localized in intron 2 (g.219G>A and g.252G>A). One of these polymorphisms (g.219G>A) was genotyped by high resolution melting (HRM) analysis and PCR-RFLP. Moreover, this gene sequence was mapped by radiation hybrid analysis on porcine chromosome 8. The association study was conducted in 756 performance tested pigs of Italian Large White and Italian Duroc breeds. Significant results were obtained for lean meat content, back fat thickness, visible intermuscular fat and ham weight. In chapter six, a second candidate gene (tribbles homolog 3, TRIB3) is analyzed in a study of association with carcass and meat quality traits. The TRIB3 gene is involved in energy metabolism of skeletal muscle and plays a role as suppressor of adipocyte differentiation. We identified two polymorphisms in the first coding exon of the porcine TRIB3 gene, one is a synonymous SNP (c.132T> C), a second is a missense mutation (c.146C> T, p.P49L). The two polymorphisms appear to be in complete linkage disequilibrium between and within breeds. The in silico analysis of the p.P49L substitution suggests that it might have a functional effect. The association study in about 650 pigs indicates that this marker is associated with back fat thickness in Italian Large White and Italian Duroc breeds in two different experimental designs. This polymorphisms is also associated with lactate content of muscle semimembranosus in Italian Large White pigs. Expression analysis indicated that this gene is transcribed in skeletal muscle and adipose tissue as well as in other tissues. In the seventh chapter, we reported the genotyping results for of 677 SNPs in extreme divergent groups of pigs chosen according to the extreme estimated breeding values for back fat thickness. SNPs were identified by resequencing, literature mining and in silico database mining. analysis, data reported in the literature of 60 candidates genes for obesity. Genotyping was carried out using the GoldenGate (Illumina) platform. Of the analyzed SNPs more that 300 were polymorphic in the genotyped population and had minor allele frequency (MAF) >0.05. Of these SNPs, 65 were associated (P<0.10) with back fat thickness. One of the most significant gene marker was the same TBC1D1 SNPs reported in chapter 5, confirming the role of this gene in fat deposition in pig. These results could be important to better define the pig as a model for human obesity other than for marker assisted selection to improve carcass characteristics.

L’erosione dentale è definita come una perdita progressiva e irreversibile dei tessuti duri del dente, a causa di un processo chimico che non coinvolge i batteri. La sua prevalenza è accresciuta negli ultimi anni nella popolazione generale, particolarmente nei bambini e negli adolescenti e rappresenta attualmente un’enorme sfida per la cura della salute orale. L'eziologia delle erosioni è difficile da diagnosticare perché può essere il risultato di una varietà di fattori e si può manifestare in maniera differente in base alla causa che l’ha determinata. L’eziologia può essere intrinseca, cioè derivante dal contenuto acido dello stomaco associato a disordini alimentari come l’anoressia, la bulimia nervosa, il reflusso gastro-esofageo e il regurgito, o estrinseca, derivante dal contenuto acido proveniente dall’ambiente esterno (cibi dietetici, bevande analcoliche, succhi di frutta, ecc). L’erosione è particolarmente frequente nei bambini e poiché i soggetti che presentano erosioni in dentizione decidua hanno un rischio aumentato di manifestare erosioni in dentizione permanente, una diagnosi precoce e una prevenzione attuata in tenera età, aiuterà a prevenire il danno a carico dei denti permanenti. Inoltre se l’erosione dentale non è controllata e stabilizzata, il bambino potrebbe soffrire di severe perdite di superfici dentali, sensibilità dentale, malocclusione, inestetismi o anche ascessi dentali dei denti affetti. Lo studio caso-controllo è stato condotto dalla Sezione di Odontostomatologia del Dipartimento Testa - Collo, in collaborazione con l’Unità Operativa Complessa di Gastroenterologia Pediatrica dell’Azienda Ospedaliera-Univesitaria di Parma. Il gruppo di studio comprende 60 pazienti di età compresa tra i 4 e i 13 anni. Dei 60 bambini arruolati, 30 presentano sintomi e storia clinica di GERD, mentre gli altri 30 sono bambini sani senza alcun sintomo di GERD o di altri disturbi gastrointestinali. Il gruppo campione A include anche soggetti affetti, oltre che dal reflusso gastro-esofageo, da varie forme di disabilità, in alcune delle quali il GERD sembra essere parte del quadro sindromico. I risultati ottenuti dallo studio hanno dimostrato una prevalenza maggiore di erosioni dentali nel gruppo di bambini affetti da GERD, rispetto ai bambini sani, in accordo con quanto riportato dalla letteratura.

The principal aim of this research project has been the evaluation of the specific role of yeasts in ripening processes of dry-cured meat products, i.e. speck and in salami produced by adding Lactobacilli starter cultures, i.e. L. sakei, L. casei, L. fermentum, L. rhamnosus, L.sakei + S.xylosus. In particular the contribution of the predominant yeasts to the hydrolytic patterns of meat proteins has been studied both in model system and in real products. In fact, although several papers have been published on the microbial, enzymatic, aromatic and chemical characterization of dry-cured meat e.g. ham over ripening, the specific role of yeasts has been often underestimated. Therefore this research work has been focused on the following aspects: 1. Characterization of the yeasts and lactic acid bacteria in samples of speck produced by different farms and analyzed during the various production and ripening phases 2. Characterization of the superficial or internal yeasts population in salami produced with or without the use of lactobacilli as starter cultures 3. Molecular characterization of different strains of yeasts and detection of the dominant biotypes able to survive despite environmental stress factors (such as smoke, salt) 4. Heavy pig breeding in Italy is mainly oriented for the production of high quality processed products. Of particular importance is the dry cured ham production, which is strictly regulated and requires specific carcass characteristics correlated with green leg characteristics. Furthermore, as pigs are slaughtered at about 160 kg live weight, the Italian pig breeding sector faces severe problems of production efficiency that are related to all biological aspects linked to growth, feed conversion, fat deposition and so on. It is well known that production and carcass traits are in part genetically determined. Therefore, as a first step to understand genetic basis of traits that could have a direct or indirect impact on dry cured ham production, a candidate gene approach can be used to identify DNA markers associated with parameters of economic importance. In this thesis, we investigated three candidate genes for carcass and production traits (TRIB3, PCSK1, MUC4) in pig breeds used for dry cured ham production, using different experimental approaches in order to find molecular markers associated with these parameters.

La tesi di Matteo Allodi intende analizzare alcune pratiche socio-assistenziali rivolte a minori e famiglie in difficoltà relative a progetti di accoglienza presso alcune strutture residenziali. In particolare, Matteo Allodi si sofferma su progetti di accoglienza elaborati presso alcune Comunità familiari la cui metodologia d’intervento si caratterizza per un orientamento verso un modello di lavoro sociale di tipo sussidiario nell’ottica del recupero dei legami e delle competenze genitoriali. La tesi affronta nella prima parte la dimensione teorica relativa a un approccio progettuale di intervento sociale che, mettendo al centro le relazioni dei soggetti in gioco, possa promuovere la loro attivazione in funzione della realizzazione dell’obiettivo del recupero della genitorialità. Allodi si concentra dal punto di vista teorico sulle modalità di realizzazione di un servizio alla persona guidato dal principio di sussidiarietà, ovvero orientato alla valorizzazione delle capacità riflessive degli attori. Nella seconda, parte Allodi presenta l’indagine condotta in alcune Comunità di tipo familiare di Parma. La strategia iniziale d’indagine è quella del case study. Allodi sceglie di indagare il fenomeno partendo da un’osservazione partecipata di orientamento etnometodologico integrata con interviste agli attori privilegiati. In questa fase si è proceduto a una prima ricerca qualitativa, attraverso la metodologia dello studio di caso, che ha permesso di entrare in contatto con alcune tipologie di strutture residenziali per minori al fine di completare il quadro generale del fenomeno delle Comunità familiari e impostare una prima mappatura esplorativa. La ricerca prosegue con uno studio longitudinale prospettico volto a monitorare e valutare il lavoro di rete della comunità e dei servizi, osservando principalmente la mobilitazione verso l’autonomia e l’empowerment dei soggetti (minori) e delle reti ancorate al soggetto (single case study). Si è voluto comprendere quali modalità relazionali gli attori della rete di coping mettono in gioco in funzione del “cambiamento sociale”.

Le pietre artificiali ed i cementi artistici utilizzati durante la stagione Liberty rappresentano tutt’oggi un patrimonio artistico non ancora sufficientemente studiato. In seguito ad una ricerca bibliografica su testi e riviste dei primi anni del Novecento, è stata eseguita una ricognizione del patrimonio architettonico emiliano-romagnolo, al fine di valutarne i materiali e le tipologie di degrado più diffuse. Le città e le zone oggetto di studio sono state: Bologna, Ferrara, Modena e provincia, Reggio Emilia, Parma, Firenze, la Romagna e le Marche settentrionali. Tra gli edifici individuati sono state analizzate le decorazioni e gli intonaci di tre edifici ritenuti particolarmente significativi: il villino Pennazzi (noto anche come Villa Gina) a Borgo Panigale (Bologna), villa Verde a Bologna e l’ex-albergo Dorando Pietri a Carpi. Da tali edifici sono stati selezionati campioni rappresentativi delle diverse tipologie di decorazioni in pietra artificiale e successivamente sono stati caratterizzati in laboratorio tramite diffrattometria a raggi x (XRD), termogravimetria (TGA), microscopio ottico in sezioni lucide, microscopio elettronico a scansione (SEM) e porosimetria ad intrusione di mercurio (MIP). In particolare per Villa Verde sono state formulate e caratterizzate diverse tipologie di malte variando il tipo di legante ed il rapporto acqua/cemento, al fine di garantire la compatibilità fisico-meccanica con il supporto negli interventi di risarcimento delle lacune previsti nel restauro. L’attività sperimentale svolta ha permesso di mettere a punto un vero e proprio protocollo diagnostico per il restauro di questo tipo di decorazioni che potrà essere utilizzato sia nei casi di studio analizzati che per ogni futuro intervento.
