(Résumé de l'ouvrage) In the first volume of this long-anticipated collection by Moessner and Tiede, seventeen leading scholars of antiquity present an amazing "sea change" of opinion that Luke is indeed the interpreter of Israel. The book represents an unprecedented international consensus that the Hellenistic author Luke composed a carefully crafted narrative in two parts to claim Jesus of Nazareth as Israel's true heritage and enduring legacy to the world. Part One explores the nature of Luke's prologues and his intention to write a narrative of "events brought to fruition," using the narrative conventions and audience expectations of the Greco-Roman milieu. Part Two illuminates the relation of Luke's second "volume" to the first by inquiring about the consistency and coherence of his narrative-thematic strategies in retelling the story of Israel's legacy of "the Christ." Whether Luke completed Acts, the larger role of Paul and, most significantly, the meaning of Israel by the end of Acts are approached from new perspectives and charged with provocative insights. Résumé: Relevant du domaine des représentations, cette thèse porte sur la reconstitution du processus relatif à l'invention des notions liées au «coeur du continent » asiatique, distinguant deux phases: avant et après l'apparition de la dénomination Asie centrale. Partant de l'idée que dans le processus de création de cet objet d'investigation deux actes restent primordiaux - le découpage d'un continuum géographique et culturel et la nomination des parties extraites cette étude cherche à reconstituer selon quels critères et en fonction de quelles justifications et de quels arguments, il a été possible de parvenir, via des mots, à créer les notions centre-asiatiques, afin de faire valoir des «choses» en les représentant verbalement ou graphiquement comme réelles. Cette optique invite, dans une perspective d'histoire des sciences, à travers des images changeantes, à interroger l'Asie centrale en tant qu'objet d'étude, tel qu'il a été historiquement inventé, construit et représenté par les voyageurs et les scientifiques, sans négliger l'analyse du processus politique qui a réussi à insérer des lignes-frontières dans cet espace. Cette investigation aidera à mieux comprendre le sens épistémologique des expressions relatives à l'Asie centrale, souvent imprégnées d'une vision eurocentriste, lors de la progression des connaissances sur la région, en faisant revivre des courants de pensées multiples afin de pouvoir saisir la logique du développement des idées et comprendre quel rôle ces limites centre-asiatiques inventées, qui ne sont que la codification temporelle de certaines données, jouent dans les investigations scientifiques. Abstract: This dissertation proposes a reconstitution of the process of construction of the concepts relating to the Asia's «Heart of the Continent». It is divided into two parts: I: before the invention of the Central. Asia concept, from Antiquity until nineteenth century; II: the notion after this event. The project of articulating a theological ethics on the basis of liturgical anthropology is bound to fail if the necessary consequence is that one has to quit the forum of critical modern rationality. The risk of Engelhardt's approach is to limit rationality to a narrow vision of reason. Sin is not to be understood as the negation of human holiness, but as the negation of divine holiness. The only way to renew theological ethics is to understand sin as the anthropological and ethical expression of the biblical message of the justification by faith only. Sin is therefore a secondary category, which can only by interpreted in light of the positive manifestation of liberation, justification, and grace. The central issue of Christian ethics is not ritual purity or morality, but experience, confession and recognition of our own injustice in our dealing with God and men.

Although a disease of great antiquity, scientific studies of schistosomiasis began only 150 years ago. The complete life-cycle was not described until just before the First World War, making it possible at last to plan proper community control programmes. Inadequate tools prevented their effective implementation until well after the Second World War when new tools became available, thanks to the newly formed World Health Organization. Molluscicides spearheaded control programmes until the late 1970s but were then replaced by the newly developed, safe drugs still used today. Whatever the method used, the initial goal of eradication was, in the light of experience and cost, gradually replaced by less ambitious targets; first to stop transmission and then to reduce morbidity. The most successful programmes combined several methods to minimise reinfection after chemotherapy. Comparisons between different programmes are difficult without using appropriate, standardised diagnostic techniques and the correct epidemiological measurements. Some examples will be presented, mainly from our studies on Schistosoma mansoni in Kenya. Drug resistance on a scale comparable with malaria has not occurred in schistosomiasis but the likely withdrawal of all drugs except praziquantel leaves its control extremely vulnerable to this potential problem. An effective, affordable vaccine for use in endemic countries is unlikely to be ready for at least 5 years, and developing strategies for its use could take a further decade or more, judging from experience with drugs and molluscicides. In the interim, by analogy with malaria, the most cost-effective approach would the use of drugs combined with other methods to stop transmission, including molluscicides. The cost of molluscicides needs to be reduced and fears allayed about their supposedly adverse ecological effects.

El treball presenta un estudi de la Història Antiga d'Israel i Egipte, des d'una perspectiva relativament poc tractada. No proposa estudiar Israel ni Egipte, sinó allò que pensaven els autors bíblics sobre Egipte.

El tema d'aquest treball se centra en la bogeria i la diferent visió dels filòsofs grecs i les concepcions mítiques referents a ella. La concepció de la bogeria en la cultura antiga clàssica és diferent a la concepció actual, però és mantenen encara certs mites que s'arrosseguen des de l'antiguitat. La concepció del Malalt Mental té un arrelament a voltes ancestral i forma part de cultures antiquíssimes sobre l'ésser humà que, encara ara, no s'han acabat de perdre en certs contextos actuals.

(Résumé de l'ouvrage) Das Deuteronomium nimmt sowohl in der Literaturgeschichte der alttestamentlichen Geschichtsbücher Josua bis Könige eine Schlüsselstellung ein als auch für die Entstehung des Pentateuchs. Wie lassen sich diese beiden Funktionen vereinbaren? Mit der Verhältnisbestimmung haben sich namhafte Wissenschafter der Arbeitsgruppe »Biblical and Ancient Near Eastern Law« im Rahmen der Internationalen Treffen der Society of Biblical Literature in Berlin (2002) und Cambridge (2003) befasst. Der Band präsentiert die neuesten Forschungsergebnisse. Er enthält Vorträge von E. Otto, K. Schmid, H.-C. Schmitt, T. Römer, W.M. Schniedewind, G.N. Knoppers, R. Achenbach, M.M. Zahn und C. Nihan.

Cet article se propose de prendre pour objet deux assemblées pentecôtistes de l'Est de la France - l'Église Évangélique de Pentecôte de Besançon (Franche-Comté) et la Porte Ouverte Chrétienne de Mulhouse (Alsace) - qui ont fait l'objet d'investigations ethnographiques dans le cadre de notre thèse de doctorat. Après avoir situé ces deux assemblées dans la mouvance du pentecôtisme français, nous nous sommes concentré sur la figure du pasteur pentecôtiste. L'exemplarité de l'histoire de vie des pasteurs, le rôle central que jouent ces derniers dans la « mise en présence » du Saint Esprit durant le culte et l'inspiration divine dont sont supposés être imprégnés leurs enseignements bibliques légitiment ce personnage dans sa fonction d'intermédiaire incontournable dans la relation entre le fidèle et son Dieu, alors même que le pentecôtisme s'inscrit historiquement dans la mouvance évangélique qui valorise la relation personnelle du chrétien né de nouveau avec son créateur. This paper considers two Pentecostal assemblies in Eastern France - the Église Évangélique de Pentecôte of Besançon (Franche-Comté) and the Porte Ouverte Chrétienne of Mulhouse (Alsace) - I have investigated for my PhD research, following an ethnographical method. After located these two assemblies in the sphere of influence of the French Pentecostalism, we focused on the Pentecostal pastor figure. The exemplary nature of the story of life of the pastors, the central role that pastors play in encounters with divine during the cult and the divine inspiration of their biblical educations legitimize this figure like inescapable intermediary between the believer and his God. Even if Pentecostalism is historically part of the evangelical sphere of influence which values personal relationships of the born again Christian with his creator.

The present paper discusses mtDNA and taphonomy of human remains from Moa, Beirada, and Zé Espinho sambaquis of Saquarema, state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. New human bone dating by 14C-AMS for Moa archeological site (3810+50 BP - GX-31826-AMS) is included. Preservation of microscopic lamellae and DNA is not related to the macroscopic integrity of the bones. Results here suggest that the preservation of amplifiable DNA fragments may have relation to the preservation of the lamellar arrangement as indicated by optical microscopic examination (polarized light). In 13 human bone fragments from Moa, Beirada, and Zé Espinho it was possible to sequence mtDNA from the 3 individuals of Moa, and from 1 of 4 individuals of Beirada, whose bones also show extensive areas with preserved lamellar structures. The 6 human bone fragments of Zé Espinho and 3 of the 4 fragments of Beirada showed extensive destruction of cortical microstructure represented by cavities, intrusive minerals, and agglomerated microscopic bodies of fungi and bacteria; it was not possible to extract mtDNA from these samples. The results support the hypothesis that the preservation of the microscopic osteon organization is a good predictor for DNA preservation. It was also confirmed the C haplogroup antiquity in Brazil.

The Egyptian Pharaoh Akhenaten initiated worship of a single god and established a new capital city (Tell Amarna) that was built and occupied only once from 1350-1330 BCE. This single short occupation offers a unique opportunity to study a short time period. The royal tombs have long been known and studied, but the location of graves for the common inhabitants has been an archaeological puzzle for more than 50 years. Recently four cemeteries have been located and the analysis of commingled bones from the South Tombs cemetery is presented here. The remains yield the following demographic profile: 53 adults with 19 females and 18 males; 14 juveniles between the ages of 5 and 17; and 3 infants. Arthritis and degenerative joint disease of the spine and joints indicates that DJD was not excessive. Only 2 to 8% of the adult population exhibits arthritis. There are 3 healed fractures of the arm (2 to 8% of the adult sample). There is 1 healed compressed fracture of the skull suggesting violence. The adult infection rate is between 2 and 8% with 3 healed and 1 active case of periostitis and no severe infections. Anemia is implicated by 23% of adult frontals exhibiting cribra orbitalia. Life for the common residents of Amarna appears to not have been as good as initially postulated.
