Globalization, technology and inequality

What are the effects of international integration on inequality, both between and within countries? The growing evidence that technology is the main determinant of wage and income differences may seem to imply that the forces of globalization only play a secondary role. Such a conclusion is however premature, in that it neglects the effect of international integration on technology itself. This opuscle summarizes recent and ongoing research studying how two important aspects of globalization, trade in goods and offshoring of production, shape the distribution of income when technological progress is endogenous. It discusses the theoretical foundations and the empirical support for various mechanisms through which international integration may change the incentive to develop and adopt new technologies and how this affects wages and the return to skill around the world.

L'article décrypte certains rouages de l'expatriation des joueurs africains vers l'Europe. La précocité de leur migration et la fragmentation de leur trajectoire sont expliquées par les spéculations dont ils font l'objet. Les réseaux socio-économiques qui portent les filières spéculatives sont mis en lumière, ce qui permet de comprendre en particulier le rôle primordial qu'y jouent les clubs intermédiaires européens, et maintenant asiatiques, intermédiaires dans la chaîne à haute valeur ajoutée, au « taux d'éviction » le plus élevé du monde. This paper decodes various workings at play in the expatriation of African players to Europe. The early nature of their migration and the fragmentation of their trajectories are explained by the speculation that surrounds them. The socio-economic networks that carry speculative channels are brought to light, which helps us to understand in particular the major role played by the European, and now Asian, clubs, which serve as intermediaries in the high value-added chain, with the highest "eviction rate" in the world.

Today, information technology is strategically important to the goals and aspirations of the business enterprises, government and high-level education institutions – university. Universities are facing new challenges with the emerging global economy characterized by the importance of providing faster communication services and improving the productivity and effectiveness of individuals. New challenges such as provides an information network that supports the demands and diversification of university issues. A new network architecture, which is a set of design principles for build a network, is one of the pillar bases. It is the cornerstone that enables the university’s faculty, researchers, students, administrators, and staff to discover, learn, reach out, and serve society. This thesis focuses on the network architecture definitions and fundamental components. Three most important characteristics of high-quality architecture are that: it’s open network architecture; it’s service-oriented characteristics and is an IP network based on packets. There are four important components in the architecture, which are: Services and Network Management, Network Control, Core Switching and Edge Access. The theoretical contribution of this study is a reference model Architecture of University Campus Network that can be followed or adapted to build a robust yet flexible network that respond next generation requirements. The results found are relevant to provide an important complete reference guide to the process of building campus network which nowadays play a very important role. Respectively, the research gives university networks a structured modular model that is reliable, robust and can easily grow.
