Annual report of the Iowa Highway Research Board Research and Development Activities FY 2006

The Highway Division of the Iowa Department of Transportation engages in research and development for two reasons: first, to find workable solutions to the many problems that require more than ordinary, routine investigation; and second, to identify and implement improved engineering and management practices. This report is submitted in compliance with Sections 310.36 and 312.3A, Code of Iowa, which direct the submission of a report of the Secondary Road Research Fund and the Street Research Fund, respectively. It is a report of the status of research and development projects, which were in progress on June 30, 2006; it is also a report on projects completed during the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2005, and ending June 30, 2006.

The Iowa Watershed Improvement Review Board (WIRB) was created by the Iowa Legislature and signed into law by the Governor in 2005 as Senate File 200. This statute is now codified in Iowa Code Chapter 466A. The fifteen-member Board conducted eight meetings throughout the year in-person or via teleconference. Meetings were held January 24, February 27, March 13, May 15, August 7, September 20, October 6, and December 18. Attachment 3 lists the board members and their organization affiliation. The Board appointed a five-member subcommittee to review and revise the Request For Applications (RFA) documents and submit recommendations to the full Board. The RFA documents were approved as modified at the May 15, 2006 Board meeting.

Offshore work and the work of nurses on board: an integrative review

OBJECTIVETo know the production of theoretical approaches on issues related to offshore work and the work of offshore nurses.METHODIntegrative literature review conducted in the databases of LILACS, BDENF, MEDLINE, SciELO and Index PSI.RESULTSWe selected 33 studies published in national and international journals between 1997 and 2014. The thematic analysis corpus resulted in four central themes: offshore work environment; amid work adversities, an escape; structuring of offshore health and safety services; in search of safe practices.CONCLUSIONThis study contributes to the offshore work of nurses in relation to the nature of work, acting amid adversities and the restless search for safe practices in the open sea.

Subsídios para a Implementação de uns SIG na Câmara Municipal da Praia

Sistemas de Informação Geográfica (SIG) são, actualmente, uma das ferramentas consideradas imprescindíveis para a gestão e planeamento nas autarquias locais. Conseguem recolher, armazenar, organizar e seleccionar, transformar e representar a informação de natureza espacial, do “mundo real” para um vasto conjunto de circunstâncias. Numa altura em que, cada vez mais, as Autarquias Locais em Cabo Verde, têm visto as suas competências e atribuições aumentarem, fruto do acentuado processo de descentralização, torna-se necessário, encontrar formas e instrumentos que permitem tratar com rapidez, grandes volumes de informação, tornando mais célere, transparente e credível o processo de tomada das decisões. Os Sistemas de Informação Geográfica, pelas suas características conseguem garantir, às Autarquias, estas funcionalidades. Este trabalho propõe um modelo de implementação de SIG na Câmara Municipal da Praia, em Cabo verde, recorrendo à um conjunto de subsídios, recolhidos no seio da instituição camarária, e considerados fundamentais para a concepção de um modelo que seja efectivamente reconhecido pelos seus potenciais utilizadores e beneficiários. O modelo ora apresentado, resulta também da análise e de subsídios recolhidos em três experiencias de implementação de SIG adoptadas em outras realidades e que tiveram êxitos nos resultados preconizados.
