A odontologia moderna utiliza métodos e técnicas ultraconservadores no intuito de corrigir os diversos tipos de alterações cromáticas observadas clinicamente. Os meios empregados baseiam-se na utilização de substâncias químicas à base de peróxidos presentes em diversas concentrações. O presente estudo objetivou avaliar a microestrutura de três resinas compostas fotossensíveis submetidas à aplicação de um agente clareador a base de peróxido de hidrogênio a 35% (Whiteness HP Maxx - fabricante: FGM), ativado por uma fonte híbrida de energia luminosa (Aparelho de Laser-Led Whitening Lase, fabricante: DMC). Para isso, foram confeccionados 30 corpos de prova (CDP) 10 para cada grupo, no formato de discos, com 13 mm de diâmetro e 2,0 mm de espessura em uma matriz de teflon e aço inox, fotoativados por um aparelho de luz halógena convencional (Optilux 401 - Demetron/UR) por 40 segundos com densidade de potência média igual a 450 mW/cm2. Os grupos foram dispostos da seguinte forma: Grupo 1 - resina microparticulada (Durafill VS - fabricante: Heraeus Kulzer); Grupo 2 - resina micro-híbrida (Esthet-X - fabricante: Dentsply); e Grupo 3 resina nanoparticulada (Filtek Supreme XT fabricante: 3M ESPE). Todos os materiais restauradores utilizados eram da cor A2. Após serem submetidos à sequência de acabamento e polimento os CDP foram armazenados por sete dias em saliva artificial, limpos em ultra-som, envelhecidos artificialmente de acordo com a norma ASTM G 154. Os CDP dos três grupos foram aleatoriamente divididos em 2 subgrupos (ST sem tratamento e CT com tratamento) e finalmente submetidos aos experimentos. Os CDP dos subgrupos 1-ST, 2- ST e 3-ST foram triturados (SPEX SamplePrep 8000-series, marca: Mixer/Mills) seguido pela verificação dos materiais por meio de um espectrômetro (marca/modelo: Shimadzu EDX 720) para certificação da ausência de elementos pertencentes ao meio de moagem e por fim foram levados a um difrator de raios-X (marca / modelo: Philips -PW 3040 -X'Celerator- 40kV; 30mA; (λ): CuKα; 0,6; 0,2mm; 0,05 (2θ); 2s; 10-90 (2θ). Em seguida os CDP dos subgrupos 1-CT, 2- CT e 3-CT foram tratados com o peróxido de hidrogênio de acordo com o protocolo do fabricante para a fonte híbrida luminosa de energia selecionada, totalizando 9 aplicações de 10 minutos, onde eram respeitados os tempos de 3 minutos de ativação por 20 segundos de descanso, finalizando 10 minutos em cada aplicação. Mediante a este tratamento, os CDP dos subgrupos CT eram verificados e avaliados pelo mesmo método descrito anteriormente. Após interpretação gráfica, análise comparativa por meio do processamento digital das imagens no programa KS400 3.0 (Carl Zeiss Vision) e análise de concordância por cinco avaliadores calibrados utilizando um escore, pôde-se concluir que houve degradação estrutural e que as estruturas cristalinas das resinas estudadas foram afetadas de forma distinta quando tratadas pelo peróxido de hidrogênio; onde observou-se que: Grupo 1 > Grupo 3 > Grupo 2. Foi sugerido a realização de novos estudos, relacionados à interação do peróxido de hidrogênio às resinas compostas.

Em um ambiente virtual, construído com o uso de tecnologia computacional, encontram-se presentes entidades virtuais inseridas em um espaço tridimensional, que é utilizado para a simulação de processos críticos, como os acidentes radiológicos. A pronta detecção de um acidente radiológico e a determinação da sua possível extensão são fatores essenciais para o planejamento de respostas imediatas e de ações de emergência. A integração das representações georeferenciadas do espaço tridimensional, com modelos baseados em agentes autônomos, com o objetivo de construir ambientes virtuais que tenham a capacidade de simular acidentes radiológicos é a proposta dessa tese. As representações georeferenciadas do espaço tridimensional candidatas são: i)as representações espaciais usadas nos sistemas de informações geográficas (SIG) e ii) a representação adotada pelo Google MapsTM. Com o uso deste ambiente pode-se: quantificar as doses recebidas pelas pessoas; ter uma distribuição espacial das pessoas contaminadas; estimar o número de indivíduos contaminados; estimar o impacto na rede de saúde; estimar impactos ambientais; gerar zonas de exclusão; construir cenários alternativos; treinar pessoal técnico para lidar com acidentes radiológicos.

Este trabalho está inserido no campo da Geomática e se concentra, mais especificamente, no estudo de métodos para exploração e seleção de rotas em espaços geográficos sem delimitação prévia de vias trafegáveis. As atividades que poderiam se beneficiar de estudos desse tipo estão inseridas em áreas da engenharia, logística e robótica. Buscou-se, com as pesquisas realizadas nesse trabalho, elaborar um modelo computacional capaz de consultar as informações de um terreno, explorar uma grande quantidade de rotas viáveis e selecionar aquelas rotas que oferecessem as melhores condições de trajetória entre dois pontos de um mapa. Foi construído um sistema a partir do modelo computacional proposto para validar sua eficiência e aplicabilidade em diferentes casos de estudo. Para que esse sistema fosse construído, foram combinados conceitos de sistemas baseados em agentes, lógica nebulosa e planejamento de rotas em robótica. As informações de um terreno foram organizadas, consumidas e apresentadas pelo sistema criado, utilizando mapas digitais. Todas as funcionalidades do sistema foram construídas por meio de software livre. Como resultado, esse trabalho de pesquisa disponibiliza um sistema eficiente para o estudo, o planejamento ou a simulação de rotas sobre mapas digitais, a partir de um módulo de inferência nebuloso aplicado à classificação de rotas e um módulo de exploração de rotas baseado em agentes autônomos. A perspectiva para futuras aplicações utilizando o modelo computacional apresentado nesse trabalho é bastante abrangente. Acredita-se que, a partir dos resultados alcançados, esse sistema possa ajudar a reduzir custos e automatizar equipamentos em diversas atividades humanas.

本文针对物理链路可靠性低、容错性要求高、实体异构程度高的基础设施网格化需求,在系统分析当前主流的网格体系结构的基础上,研究了移动代理(PVM)系统的特性,根据移动代理的特点,提出了基于移动代理的四层网格计算模型MAGC(Mobile Agent Based Grid Computing),描述了MAGC模型的层次结构,给出了MAGC模型的一个设计方案,分析了MAGC模型的特点,最后介绍了在Aglet平台下实现的原型系统。本文取得的成果主要包括: 第二章提出了基于移动代理的四层网格计算模型(MAGC),说明了模型中每个层次的功能和层次之间的依赖关系。MAGC模型基于代码迁移,可以解决网络环境恶劣的条件下,网格系统的运行与部署问题。设计了MAGC模型的两个重要基础结构:作业机制和消息机制。设计了移动代理平台抽象层,使网格系统独立于具体的移动代理平台,从而具有一定的可移植性。 第三章在MAGC模型的基础上,进一步给出了MAGC模型的一个实现方案,阐述了MAGC模型中四个子层的功能和组件划分,对每层所包含的组件和组件实现的功能进行了描述,说明了系统的启动方式。 第四章基于MAGC模型构建了一个原型系统,原型系统以IBM开发的Aglets移动代理软件包为基础,实现了作业机制、消息机制和MAGC模型中的移动代理平台抽象层、系统服务层、API层、应用作业层四个子层。

Emerging healthcare applications can benefit enormously from recent advances in pervasive technology and computing. This paper introduces the CLARITY Modular Ambient Health and Wellness Measurement Platform:, which is a heterogeneous and robust pervasive healthcare solution currently under development at the CLARITY Center for Sensor Web Technologies. This intelligent and context-aware platform comprises the Tyndall Wireless Sensor Network prototyping system, augmented with an agent-based middleware and frontend computing architecture. The key contribution of this work is to highlight how interoperability, expandability, reusability and robustness can be manifested in the modular design of the constituent nodes and the inherently distributed nature of the controlling software architecture.Emerging healthcare applications can benefit enormously from recent advances in pervasive technology and computing. The technological role of handheld devices is fundamentally changing. Portable computers were traditionally application specific. They were designed and optimised to deliver a specific task. However, it is now commonly acknowledged that future handheld devices need to be multi-functional and need to be capable of executing a range of high-performance applications. This thesis has coined the term pervasive handheld computing systems to refer to this type of mobile device. Portable computers are faced with a number of constraints in trying to meet these objectives. They are physically constrained by their size, their computational power, their memory resources, their power usage, and their networking ability. These constraints challenge pervasive handheld computing systems in achieving their multi-functional and high-performance requirements. This thesis proposes a two-pronged methodology to enable pervasive handheld computing systems meet their future objectives. The methodology is a fusion of two independent and yet complementary concepts. The first step utilises reconfigurable technology to enhance the physical hardware resources within the environment of a handheld device. This approach recognises that reconfigurable computing has the potential to dynamically increase the system functionality and versatility of a handheld device without major loss in performance. The second step of the methodology incorporates agent-based middleware protocols to support handheld devices to effectively manage and utilise these reconfigurable hardware resources within their environment. The thesis asserts the combined characteristics of reconfigurable computing and agent technology can meet the objectives of pervasive handheld computing systems.

The effectiveness of vaccinating males against the human papillomavirus (HPV) remains a controversial subject. Many existing studies conclude that increasing female coverage is more effective than diverting resources into male vaccination. Recently, several empirical studies on HPV immunization have been published, providing evidence of the fact that marginal vaccination costs increase with coverage. In this study, we use a stochastic agent-based modeling framework to revisit the male vaccination debate in light of these new findings. Within this framework, we assess the impact of coverage-dependent marginal costs of vaccine distribution on optimal immunization strategies against HPV. Focusing on the two scenarios of ongoing and new vaccination programs, we analyze different resource allocation policies and their effects on overall disease burden. Our results suggest that if the costs associated with vaccinating males are relatively close to those associated with vaccinating females, then coverage-dependent, increasing marginal costs may favor vaccination strategies that entail immunization of both genders. In particular, this study emphasizes the necessity for further empirical research on the nature of coverage-dependent vaccination costs.

This paper presents a description of a new agent based elevator sub-model developed as part of the buildingEXODUS software intended for both evacuation and circulation applications. A description of each component of the newly developed model is presented, including the elevator kinematics and associated pedestrian behaviour. The elevator model is then used to investigate a series of full building evacuation scenarios based on a hypothetical 50 floor building with four staircases and a population of 7,840 agents. The analysis explores the relative merits of using up to 32 elevators (arranged in four banks) and various egress strategies to evacuate the entire building population. Findings from the investigation suggest that the most efficient evacuation strategy utilises a combination of elevators and stairs to empty the building and clear the upper half of the building in minimum time. Combined stair elevator evacuation times have been shown to be as much as 50% faster than stair only evacuation times.

PEGS (Production and Environmental Generic Scheduler) is a generic production scheduler that produces good schedules over a wide range of problems. It is centralised, using search strategies with the Shifting Bottleneck algorithm. We have also developed an alternative distributed approach using software agents. In some cases this reduces run times by a factor of 10 or more. In most cases, the agent-based program also produces good solutions for published benchmark data, and the short run times make our program useful for a large range of problems. Test results show that the agents can produce schedules comparable to the best found so far for some benchmark datasets and actually better schedules than PEGS on our own random datasets. The flexibility that agents can provide for today's dynamic scheduling is also appealing. We suggest that in this sort of generic or commercial system, the agent-based approach is a good alternative.

Tephras are important for the NZ-INTIMATE project because they link all three records comprising the composite inter-regional stratotype developed for the New Zealand climate event stratigraphy (NZ-CES). Here we firstly report new calendar ages for 24 widespread marker tephras erupted since 30,000 calendar (cal.) years ago in New Zealand to help facilitate their use as chronostratigraphic dating tools for the NZ-CES and for other palaeoenvironmental and geological applications. The selected tephras comprise 12 rhyolitic tephras from Taupo, nine rhyolitic tephras from Okataina, one peralkaline rhyolitic tephra from Tuhua, and one andesitic tephra each from Tongariro and Egmont/Taranaki volcanic centres. Age models for the tephras were obtained using three methods: (i) C-based wiggle-match dating of wood from trees killed by volcanic eruptions (these dates published previously); (ii) flexible depositional modelling of a high-resolution C-dated age-depth sequence at Kaipo bog using two Bayesian-based modelling programs, Bacon and OxCal's P_Sequence function, and the IntCal09 data set (with SH offset correction-44±17yr); and (iii) calibration of C ages using OxCal's Tau_Boundary function and the SHCal04 and IntCal09 data sets. The ca1200-yr-long cool episode, indicated by a lithostratigraphic change in the Kaipo peat sequence to grey mudwith lowered carbon content, and a high-resolution pollen-derived cooling signal, began 13,739±125cal.yrBP and ended 12,550±140cal.yrBP (mid-point ages of the 95% highest posterior density regions, Bacon modelling). The OxCal modelling, generating almost identical ages, confirmed these ages. The Lateglacial cool episode (ca 13.8-12.6cal.kaBP) thus overlaps a large part of the entire Antarctic Cold Reversal chronozone (ca 14.1-12.4cal.kaBP or ca 14.6-12.8cal.kaBP), and an early part of the Greenland Stadial-1 (Younger Dryas) chronozone (ca 12.9-11.7cal.kaBP). The timing of the Lateglacial cool episode at Kaipo is broadly consistent with the latitudinal patterns in the Antarctic Cold Reversal signal suggested for the New Zealand archipelago from marine and terrestrial records, and with records from southern South America. © 2012 Elsevier Ltd.

AgentSpeak is a logic-based programming language, based on the Belief-Desire-Intention (BDI) paradigm, suitable for building complex agent-based systems. To limit the computational complexity, agents in AgentSpeak rely on a plan library to reduce the planning problem to the much simpler problem of plan selection. However, such a plan library is often inadequate when an agent is situated in an uncertain environment. In this paper, we propose the AgentSpeak+ framework, which extends AgentSpeak with a mechanism for probabilistic planning. The beliefs of an AgentSpeak+ agent are represented using epistemic states to allow an agent to reason about its uncertain observations and the uncertain effects of its actions. Each epistemic state consists of a POMDP, used to encode the agent’s knowledge of the environment, and its associated probability distribution (or belief state). In addition, the POMDP is used to select the optimal actions for achieving a given goal, even when facing uncertainty.
