Context i transversalitat de la política lingüística com a política pública

La importància del context i la conveniència d'un enfocament transversal són les claus de l'article, que analitza les transformacions demogràfiques, socials i tecnològiques dels darrers anys a Catalunya i l'impacte que han tingut sobre una política lingüística que ha d'orientar-se al benestar de les persones. Per aconseguir-ho, i d'acord amb el criteri de transversalitat, és necessària una gran implicació d'empreses, institucions, agents socials i col·lectius.

Diagnosis of the nutrient compositional space of fruit crops

Tissue analysis is a useful tool for the nutrient management of fruit orchards. The mineral composition of diagnostic tissues expressed as nutrient concentration on a dry weight basis has long been used to assess the status of 'pure' nutrients. When nutrients are mixed and interact in plant tissues, their proportions or concentrations change relatively to each other as a result of synergism, antagonism, or neutrality, hence producing resonance within the closed space of tissue composition. Ternary diagrams and nutrient ratios are early representations of interacting nutrients in the compositional space. Dual and multiple interactions were integrated by the Diagnosis and Recommendation Integrated System (DRIS) into nutrient indexes and by Compositional Nutrient Diagnosis into centered log ratios (CND-clr). DRIS has some computational flaws such as using a dry matter index that is not a part as well as nutrient products (e.g. NxCa) instead of ratios. DRIS and CND-clr integrate all possible nutrient interactions without defining an ad hoc interactive model. They diagnose D components while D-1 could be diagnosed in the D-compositional Hilbert space. The isometric log ratio (ilr) coordinates overcome these problems using orthonormal binary nutrient partitions instead of dual ratios. In this study, it is presented a nutrient interactive model as well as computation methods for DRIS and CND-clr and CND-ilr coordinates (CND-ilr) using leaf analytical data from an experimental apple orchard in Southwestern Quebec, Canada. It was computed the Aitchison and Mahalanobis distances across ilr coordinates as measures of nutrient imbalance. The effect of changing nutrient concentrations on ilr coordinates are simulated to identify the ones contributing the most to nutrient imbalance.

El paisatge: patrimoni en mutació i recurs didàctic educatiu en l'àmbit europeu.

En les darreres dècades s'ha viscut una lenta però important reconceptualització social de la noció de patrimoni. Des d'una visió del patrimoni lligada a la idea de passat i de conservació, s'ha evolucionat cap a una visió dinàmica i funcional, més vinculada al present i a la idea d'utilització. Com a recurs amenaçat per les ràpides i intenses transformacions econòmiques, actualment el paisatge ha assolit una dimensió de patrimoni. Aquesta dimensió està reconeguda en la Convenció Europea del Paisatge, aprovada a Florència l'octubre del 2000, els principals objectius de la qual són la protecció i la gestió del paisatge, i el plantejament de la necessitat de promoure l'ensenyament en els diversos nivells educatius. Aquest article tracta el contingut de la Convenció i les seves implicacions en la didàctica del paisatge, tots exposant alguns dels resultats obtinguts en la investigació sobre didàctica del paisatge feta per l'autor en l"àmbit del Departament de Didàctica de les Ciències Socials de la Universitat de Barcelona.

Las personas mayores ante la crisis económica

La comunicació consisteix en una anàlisi dels efectes de la crisi sobre les persones grans a partir de l’exploració de dades estadístiques i d’un ampli treball de camp qualitatiu fet amb persones grans durant l’any 2013. S’elabora al seu torn una tipologia temptativa d’impactes de la crisi en aquest grup, discutint com s’insereixen aquests canvis en les trajectòries de vida i les xarxes socials de la gent gran, quins són els elements que generen una major vulnerabilitat i, finalment, en quina mesura les alteracions econòmiques produïdes per la crisi es tradueixen també en transformacions en el seu rol econòmic, social i familiar.

Unidirectional quantum walks: Evolution and exit times

In this paper we focus our attention on a particle that follows a unidirectional quantum walk, an alternative version of the currently widespread discrete-time quantum walk on a line. Here the walker at each time step can either remain in place or move in a fixed direction, e.g., rightward or upward. While both formulations are essentially equivalent, the present approach leads us to consider discrete Fourier transforms, which eventually results in obtaining explicit expressions for the wave functions in terms of finite sums and allows the use of efficient algorithms based on the fast Fourier transform. The wave functions here obtained govern the probability of finding the particle at any given location but determine as well the exit-time probability of the walker from a fixed interval, which is also analyzed.

Prospective motion correction with FID-triggered image navigators

In this work, we propose a method for prospective motion correction in MRI using a novel image navigator module, which is triggered by a free induction decay (FID) navigator. Only when motion occurs, the image navigator is run and new positional information is obtained through image registration. The image navigator was specifically designed to match the impact on the magnetization and the acoustic noise of the host sequence. This detection-correction scheme was implemented for an MP-RAGE sequence and 5 healthy volunteers were scanned at 3T while performing various head movements. The correction performance was demonstrated through automated brain segmentation and an image quality index whose results are sensitive to motion artifacts.

L’impuls de l'educació durant la Segona República: l'ensenyament públic a Osona (1931-1936)

L’educació en general va rebre un fort impuls durant la Segona República, a través de dotar de millors condicions materials i humanes l’ensenyament públic. La comarca d’Osona no va quedar al marge d’aquesta onada de transformacions, la graduació d’escoles nacionals a moltes poblacions i la construcció de nous edificis escolars van acabar amb la precarietat amb què subsistia l’ensenyament públic a la comarca. Paral·lelament es van produir altres canvis a l’entorn de l’educació, entre els quals l’article tracta el de l’oficialitat de l’ensenyament laic.

Vacancy-assisted domain-growth in asymmetric binary alloys: A Monte Carlo Study

A Monte Carlo simulation study of the vacancy-assisted domain growth in asymmetric binary alloys is presented. The system is modeled using a three-state ABV Hamiltonian which includes an asymmetry term. Our simulated system is a stoichiometric two-dimensional binary alloy with a single vacancy which evolves according to the vacancy-atom exchange mechanism. We obtain that, compared to the symmetric case, the ordering process slows down dramatically. Concerning the asymptotic behavior it is algebraic and characterized by the Allen-Cahn growth exponent x51/2. The late stages of the evolution are preceded by a transient regime strongly affected by both the temperature and the degree of asymmetry of the alloy. The results are discussed and compared to those obtained for the symmetric case.

Precursor nanoscale modulations in ferromagnets: Modeling and thermodynamic characterization

Using a Ginzburg-Landau model for the magnetic degrees of freedom with coupling to disorder, we demonstrate through simulations the existence of stripelike magnetic precursors recently observed in Co-Ni-Al alloys above the Curie temperature. We characterize these magnetic modulations by means of the temperature dependence of local magnetization distribution, magnetized volume fraction, and magnetic susceptibility. We also obtain a temperature-disorder strength phase diagram in which a magnetic tweed phase exists in a small region between the paramagnetic and dipolar phases.

Origin of magnetic and magnetoelastic tweedlike precursor modulations in ferroic materials

Based on experimental observations of modulated magnetic patterns in a Co0.5Ni0.205Ga0.295 alloy, we propose a model to describe a (purely) magnetic tweed and a magnetoelastic tweed. The former arises above the Curie (or Nel) temperature due to magnetic disorder. The latter results from compositional fluctuations coupling to strain and then to magnetism through the magnetoelastic interaction above the structural transition temperature. We discuss the origin of purely magnetic and magnetoelastic precursor modulations and their experimental thermodynamic signatures.
