Critical exponents that describe a transition from unlimited to limited diffusion for a ratchet system are obtained analytically and numerically. The system is described by a two dimensional nonlinear mapping with three relevant control parameters. Two of them control the non-linearity while the third one controls the intensity of the dissipation. Chaotic attractors appear in the phase space due to the dissipation and considering large non-linearity are characterised by the use of Lyapunov exponents. The critical exponents are used to overlap different curves of average momentum (dynamical variable) onto a single plot confirming a scale invariance. The formalism used is general and the procedure can be extended to different systems.

The main idea of this work is to understand and analyze the dynamical aspects of the motion of a particle moving in the annular billiard, which corresponds to two circles of radius R and r (rmomentum to the particle. Likewise, the collisions with the circles are studied in the conservative (elastic) and dissipative (non-elastic) cases. When we introduce magnetic and electric fields, the particle is submitted to the Lorentz force. It also can suffer successive collisions with the breathing circles, winning or losing energy. For the elastic time-dependent case, we have already observed that a particle can gain unlimited energy. The purpose of this work is to study the effects of both external fields in the mean energy of the system, for the time-dependent case with and without dissipation. Our initial results conduct us to believe that electrical field can contribute to the increasing of mean energy, and a magnetic field applied to the vertical axis of coordinate (what guarantees the particle do not travel away the billiard’s plane) uses to arrest the particle to the whispering gallery orbits and do not contribute to the Fermi acceleration indeed. However, in presence of the electric field, to same values, the magnetic one together can improve this referred process, obtaining greater energy values to the same number of iterations. These results are applied to the concentric case, that was reported did not haven any significant energy gain on the free particle motion

A class of light-cone integrals typical to one-loop calculations in the two-component formalism is considered. For the particular cases considered, convergence is verified though the results cannot be expressed as a finite sum of elementary functions. © 1988 American Institute of Physics.

The momentum distributions of electrons ionized from H atoms by chirped few-cycle attosecond pulses are investigated by numerically solving the time-dependent Schrödinger equation. The central carrier frequency of the pulse is chosen to be 25 eV, which is well above the ionization threshold. The asymmetry (or difference) in the yield of electrons ionized along and opposite to the direction of linear laser polarization is found to be very sensitive to the pulse chirp (for pulses with fixed carrier-envelope phase), both for a fixed electron energy and for the energy-integrated yield. In particular, the larger the pulse chirp, the larger the number of times the asymmetry changes sign as a function of ionized electron energy. For a fixed chirp, the ionized electron asymmetry is found to be sensitive also to the carrier-envelope phase of the few-cycle pulse.
