A two day workshop was convened on February 2-3, 1998 in Charleston, SC with 20 invited experts in various areas of sea turtle research. The goal of this workshop was to review current information on sea turtles with repect to health and identify data gaps. The use of a suite of health assessment indicators will provide insight on the health status of sea turtle populations. Since the relationship of health factors of sea turtles is limited, a seconde workshop was planned. Using a tiered approach, the first workshop we identified and reviewed the available, pertinent baseline information and data gaps. The second workshop will focus on developing the framework for the research plan. The workshops will address the use of integrated set of health parameters; specific objectives are: 1) Identify reliable indicators of health in sea turtles: assess advantages and disadvantages; determine new indicators/biomarkers which may be useful; 2) Review existing sea turtle field sampling projects; 3) Identify field projects suitable for inclusion for health assessment sampling; 4) Identify data gaps, particularly environmental characterization; 5) Identify new health assessment sampling sites, including reference site(s); and 6) Develop integrated five-year research plan, with focus on health assessment of environmental characterization. A discussion is presented on the importance of conservation of fishery resources, considering in particular the situation in Nigeria and providing also an outline of various legislations made by government. Suggestions are given regarding the following: education on the importance of conservation; fish farming or aquaculture; restocking or rejuvenation of depleted water bodies; stock assessment; monitoring and surveillance; provision of fishing inputs; and, extension research linkage

Ocean observing has been recognized by the US Commission on Ocean Policy, the Ocean Research and Resources Advisory Panel, the Joint Ocean Commission Initiative, and many other ocean policy entities and initiatives as foundational to meeting the nation’s need for more effective coastal and ocean management. The Interim Report of the Interagency Task Force on Ocean Policy (September 2009) has called for strengthening the nation’s capacity for observing the nation’s ocean, coastal, and Great Lakes systems. How to regulate phytoplankton growth in water supply reservoirs has continued to occupy managers and strategists for some fifty years or so, now, and mathematical models have always featured in their design and operational constraints. In recent years, rather more sophisticated simulation models have begun to be available and these, ideally, purport to provide the manager with improved forecasting of plankton blooms, the likely species and the sort of decision support that might permit management choices to be selected with increased confidence. This account describes the adaptation and application of one such model, PROTECH (Phytoplankton RespOnses To Environmental CHange) to the problems of plankton growth in reservoirs. This article supposes no background knowledge of the main algal types; neither does it attempt to catalogue the problems that their abundance may cause in lakes and reservoirs.

[EN] Store brands account for and important market share in the Spain and a further increase in expected in the next years due to the downturn. However, there is lack of research on store brand customer-based Brand Equity. This study attempts to propose an integrated model of Brand Equity in store or retailer brands, based on Aaker s well-known conceptual model. We propose a consumer-based model, including the main sources or dimensions of Brand Equity and considering the intention to purchase as a consequence. Based on a sample of 362 consumers and 5 store brands, structural equation modeling is used to test research hypotheses. The results obtained reveal that store brand awareness, loyalty along with store brand perceived quality have a significant influence on consumers intention to purchase store brands. Our study suggests that marketers and marketing managers from retailing companies should carefully consider the Brand Equity components when designing their brand strategies, and develop marketing activities in order to enhance their brands awareness.

O entendimento das necessidades dos clientes tornou-se mandatório para sobreviver em um mercado globalizado e altamente competitivo. Por isso, o conceito de gestão de relacionamento com os clientes é fundamental para as empresas. Atualmente, as organizações buscam recursos para atrair, reter e cultivar os clientes. Neste sentido, os escritórios de contabilidade estão investindo no aperfeiçoamento dos métodos de interação com os clientes. Uma maneira diferenciada é a utilização de soluções tecnológicas. Assim, o presente estudo teve por objetivo analisar as estratégias utilizadas por um escritório de contabilidade automatizado para gerir o relacionamento com os seus clientes. Além disso, o objetivo específico foi sugerir estratégias que possam ser aplicadas em escritórios de contabilidade. O estudo foi classificado como uma pesquisa aplicada e exploratória. Para a coleta de dados foi realizado um estudo de caso por meio de uma entrevista semi-estruturada com um empresário de um escritório contábil. A pesquisa constatou que o uso de ferramentas tecnológicas proporciona facilidade de acesso ao escritório, rapidez no negócio e no processo decisório dos clientes. As sugestões de estratégias elencadas no estudo permitem aprimorar os canais de interação dos escritórios de contabilidade, incentivar o uso das soluções tecnológicas e facilitar as tomadas de decisões empresarias por meio das demonstrações financeiras geradas.

Discussion on whether research is the answer to best serve the needs of aquaculture in SubSaharan Africa is presented. New methods of user-participatory, on-farm research being tested by ICLARM and other agencies in Asia and Africa is discussed.
