Propionylation of anisole to 4-methoxypropiophenone over zeolite H-beta

The results of a detailed study of the propionylation of anisole over various medium and large pore zeolites such as H-ZSM-5, H-beta, H-Na-beta. H-mordenite. H-Y and H-RE- Y are presented and discussed. In addition, homogenous catalysts and amorphous Si02-Al2O3 are also included for comparison, The catalyst and process parameters are optimised to enhance the conversion of propionyl chloride(PC) and selectivity to 4-methoxypropiophenone(4-MOPP).

Efficacy of 1000 Hz tympanometry in infants birth to 4 months of age: A follow up study

Interpretation of 1000 Hz tympanometry is not standardized. Several compensated and uncompensated measures were analyzed and compared to otologic findings. Results of auditory brainstem testing and otoacoustic emissions were considered to better obtain middle ear status. Findings were inconclusive due to small sample size.

Análisis del desempeño pedagógico del docente de segundo año de educación básica de las escuelas particulares de la UTE 1 zona 4, de la ciudad de Quito

Este trabajo se propone analizar el desempeño docente en el desarrollo de su clase a través de observaciones directas. En el primer capítulo, para fundamentar esta investigación, en primera instancia se acude a fuentes teóricas claras y básicas del enfoque constructivista; una descripción de los principios y características del constructivismo; y, otros indicadores complementarios de distintos enfoques para elaborar la ficha de observación, instrumento para observar las clases demostrativas de las docentes investigadas. Citamos brevemente unas apreciaciones sobre “El Constructivismo”. El constructivismo social, se produce por la interacción dinámica entre los profesores, los alumnos y las actividades para tener nuevos conocimientos y realizar una construcción propia de sus saberes. El constructivismo pedagógico sostiene que el individuo responde a aspectos cognitivos, sociales y afectivos del comportamiento producto de su autoconstrucción. En el segundo capítulo, se realizó la observación de una clase demostrativa a los docentes de segundo año de básica, mediante una ficha de observación que contiene ámbitos como clima en el aula, contenidos, metodología y evaluación de los aprendizajes relacionados con el enfoque constructivista; luego se transcribió los resultados de cada una de las fichas de las instituciones investigadas a un cuadro general; y, finalmente, se presenta las conclusiones y recomendaciones cuyo objetivo es mejorar su desempeño pedagógico.

The coordination chemistry of 1,2,4-triazinyl bipyridines with lanthanide(III) elements - implications for the partitioning of americium(III)

It has been established that 6-(5,6-dialkyl-1,2,4-triazin-3-yl)-2,2'-bipyridines (R,hemi-BTPs) have properties which are intermediate between those of the terpyridines and the bis(1,2,4-triazin-3-yl)pyridines (BTPs). However, they resemble the terpyridines much more closely than the BTPs. It has been shown that Et, hemi-BTP when dissolved in TPH-a dodecane-like solvent-is a selective reagent for the separation of americium(III) from europium(III). Solution NMR in acetonitrile largely confirmed the crystallographic results. There was no evidence for a 1 : 3 complex cation, or for significant differences between metal(III)-N distances for the pyridine and 1,2,4-triazine rings. Intramolecular hydrogen bonding plays a crucial role in the formation of metal coordination spheres, which explains the differences between the terpyridyl, R,hemi-BTPs and the BTPs. Protonation of the R,hemi-BTPs facilitates a conformational change which is necessary for complexation.

Quantitative pulsed phase thermography applied to steel plates

Pulsed Phase Thermography (PPT) has been proven effective on depth retrieval of flat-bottomed holes in different materials such as plastics and aluminum. In PPT, amplitude and phase delay signatures are available following data acquisition (carried out in a similar way as in classical Pulsed Thermography), by applying a transformation algorithm such as the Fourier Transform (FT) on thermal profiles. The authors have recently presented an extended review on PPT theory, including a new inversion technique for depth retrieval by correlating the depth with the blind frequency fb (frequency at which a defect produce enough phase contrast to be detected). An automatic defect depth retrieval algorithm had also been proposed, evidencing PPT capabilities as a practical inversion technique. In addition, the use of normalized parameters to account for defect size variation as well as depth retrieval from complex shape composites (GFRP and CFRP) are currently under investigation. In this paper, steel plates containing flat-bottomed holes at different depths (from 1 to 4.5 mm) are tested by quantitative PPT. Least squares regression results show excellent agreement between depth and the inverse square root blind frequency, which can be used for depth inversion. Experimental results on steel plates with simulated corrosion are presented as well. It is worth noting that results are improved by performing PPT on reconstructed (synthetic) rather than on raw thermal data.
