Solid dithizonates of Hg(I), Ag(I) and Bi(III) have been prepared. Thermogravimetry (TG), derivative thermogravimetry (DTG), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), X ray diffraction powder patterns and elemental analysis have been used to characterize and to study the thermal stability and thermal decomposition of the dithizone and of these dithizonates.

Solid state compounds of general formula M(DMCP)2.nH2O, where M represents Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba, and DMCP is 4-dimethylaminocinnamylidenepyruvate, and n = 1, except for Ca, where n = 2.5, have been prepared. Thermogravimetry, derivative thermogravimetry (TG, DTG), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), X-ray diffraction powder patterns and complexometry were used to characterize and to study the thermal decomposition of these compounds.

Solid state cinnamylidenepyruvate of trivalent lanthanides (except for promethium) and yttrium, were prepared. Thermogravimetry, derivative thermogravimetry (TG, DTG), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), X-ray diffraction powder patterns and complexometry were used to characterize and to study the thermal behavior of these compounds in a dynamic CO2 atmosphere. The results obtained showed significative differences on the thermal stability and thermal decomposition of these compounds, with regard to the thermal behavior study in a dynamic air atmosphere.

Complexos de percloratos à base de terras raras com a 2-azaciclononanona (AZA) foram obtidos a partir da reação entre os respectivos sais hidratados com a AZA (proporção molar 1:8) pelo método de difusão de vapor e caracterizados por titulação complexiométrica com EDTA, microanálise (CHN), espectroscopia vibracional na região do IV, termogravimetria em atmosfera de ar e N2 e calorimetria exploratória diferencial (DSC) em atmosfera de N2. O estudo cinético desse trabalho foi realizado utilizando um software em QBASIC que faz a simulação dos dados termogravimétricos a partir de um conjunto dado de parâmetros cinéticos.

Solid state compounds M-4-DMCP, where 4-DMCP is 4-dimethylaminocinnamylidenepyruvate and M represents Mn (II), Co (II), Ni (II), Cu (II), Zn (II) and Pb (II) were prepared. These compounds were studied by thermoanalitycal techniques: thermogravimetry (TG), derivative thermogravimetry (DTG), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), X-ray diffraction powder patterns and complexometric titration with EDTA. From the results obtained by the complexometric titration with EDTA, TG, DTG and DSC curves, was possible to establish the hydration degree, stoichiometry and thermal stability of the prepared compounds.

Os peixes são uma fonte rica em ácidos graxos poliinsaturados ômega 3 e esses ácidos fornecem benefícios para a saúde humana além da nutrição básica. Por essa razão muitos estudos têm sido feitos enfocando a análise do teor das substâncias que compõem os alimentos e também aos efeitos dos processamentos a que esses alimentos são submetidos. Esses estudos têm se estendido aos recursos pesqueiros. Vários estudos sobre a estabilidade térmica e/ou oxidativa e sobre o comportamento cinético de óleos vegetais têm sido realizados por Termogravimetria (TG), Análise Térmica Diferencial (DTA) e Calorimetria Exploratória Diferencial (DSC). No entanto, ainda são escassos os estudos sobre o comportamento térmico de óleos e gorduras de origem animal. Assim, avaliou-se a estabilidade térmica de cinco espécies de peixes do rio Araguaia (Goiás - Brasil) em atmosfera de nitrogênio por TG/DTG. Os resultados mostraram perdas de massa entre 235°C e 490°C e apontaram uma equivalência de comportamento termogravimétrico entre os óleos das cinco espécies e também entre esses óleos e alguns óleos vegetais, tais como, os óleos de araticum, buriti e dendê.

The Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) was used to study the thermal behavior of hair samples and to verify the possibility of identifying an individual based on DSC curves from a data bank. Hair samples of students and officials from Instituto de Química de Araraquara, UNESP were obtained to build up a data bank. Thus to sought an individual, under incognito participant of this data bank, was identified using DSC curves.

An evaluation of hydration and thermal decomposition of HAlg and its sodium salt is described using thermogravimetry (TG) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). TG curves in N2 and air, were obtained for alginic acid showed two decomposition steps attributed to loss of water and polymer decomposition respectively. The sodium alginate decomposed in three steps. The first attributed to water loss, followed by the formation of a carbonaceous residue and finally the Na2CO3. DSC curves presented peaks in agreement with the TG data. In the IR alginic acid presented bands at 1730 and 1631 cm-1, while sodium alginate presented a doublet at 1614 e 1431 cm-1, evidencing the presence of salified carboxyl groups.

Solid-state M-3-MeO-Bz compounds, where M stands for bivalent Mn, Co, Ni, Cu and Zn and 3-MeO-Bz is 3-methoxybenzoate, have been synthesized. Simultaneous thermogravimetry and differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), X-ray powder diffractometry, infrared spectroscopy, and chemical analysis were used to characterize and to study the thermal behaviour of these compounds. The results led to information about the composition, dehydration, thermal stability and thermal decomposition of the isolated compounds.

A hidroxiapatita [Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2, HA] foi sintetizada utilizando-se a rota sol-gel partindo-se de ácido fosfórico e nitrato de cálcio como precursores de cálcio e fósforo, respectivamente e como solvente utilizou-se o metanol na preparação do sol que posteriormente será utilizado na obtenção de recobrimentos de hidroxiapatita sobre substratos de ligas de titânio. O sol permaneceu estável e não ocorreu gelatinização em temperatura ambiente durante sete dias. O sol transformou-se em um gel branco somente após a remoção do solvente a 100ºC. O produto assim obtido foi calcinado em 300°C, 500°C e 700°C e caracterizou-se por DRX, FT-IR, MEV/EDS e TGA/DSC. As fases de HA sintetizada tornaram-se estáveis sem sub-produtos a 700°C. A difração de raios X mostrou que a estrutura apatita é aparente em 300°C. O tamanho do cristal e o teor de HA aumentaram com o aumento da temperatura de calcinação. A análise por MEV mostrou a presença de poros que são importantes para aplicações biomédicas, favorecendo a adesão entre o tecido ósseo neoformado e a apatita sintética, ou seja, osseointegração.

Este trabalho reporta o estudo de compostos binários do dicarboxilato 1,4-bis(3-carbóxi-3-oxo-prop-1-enil)benzeno, C6H4(-CH=CH-CO-COO-)2 , com os cátions metálicos Ag+ e Pb2+, obtidos a partir de soluções aquosas do ligante e dos nitratos dos cátions metálicos, em proporções estequiométricas. Para a caracterização e o estudo do processo de decomposição térmica desses compostos foram empregadas Espectrofotometria de Absorção na Região do Infravermelho com Transformada de Fourier (FT-IR), Análise Elementar (C, H), Complexometria com EDTA, Termogravimetria (TG) e Calorimetria Exploratória Diferencial (DSC).

Solid-state Ln -3-MeO-Bz compounds, where Ln stands for lighter trivalent lanthanides (La Sm) and 3-methoxybenzoate, have been synthesized. Thermogravimetry (TG), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), X-ray powder diffractometry, infrared spectroscopy, and complexometry were used to characterize and to study the thermal behaviour of these compounds. The results led to information concerning the composition, dehydration, polymorphic transformation, thermal behaviour and thermal decomposition of the synthesized compounds.

Copolymers of methyl methacrylate (MMA) and triethyleneglycol dimethacrylate (TEGDMA) obtained by photoinitiated polymerization using Fe(III) complexes were submitted to thermogravimetry (TGA) under dynamic air atmosphere and N2, and differential scanning calorimetric analysis (DSC). Thermal events were observed only between 90 - 110 ºC. Glass transitions were observed at ca. 100 ºC, followed by an exothermic peak at 170 ºC. The exothermic peak was assigned to a thermal curing process due to the presence of unreacted vinyl groups of the monomers. DSC revealed to be a useful tool to evaluate the curing completeness in this kind of material, using small amounts of sample in relatively short time.
