Aproximación historiográfica a la investigación arqueológica en Canarias: la Comisaría Provincial de Excavaciones Arqueológicas de Las Palmas (1940-1969)

[ES] El trabajo se centra en el estudio de la producción científica de la Comisaría de Excavaciones de Las Palmas (1940-1969), con el fin de analizar su contribución en el desarrollo científico de la Arqueología en Canarias. La mayoría de los arqueólogos y prehistoriadores canarios suelen achacar a esta larga etapa numerosos males, la mayoría de los cuales son innegables. Sin embargo, no es menos cierto que, en la España franquista, la labor de los Comisarios de Excavaciones, que en su mayoría careCÍan de formación arqueológica alguna y de los medios económicos y técnicos necesarios, constituye una base importante, de la investigación científica posterior.

Lanzarote en la Diputación Provincial durante el sexenio revolucionario (1868-1874)

[ES] Aborda los temas que sobre la isla de Lanzarote plantean sus representantes en la Diputación Provincial, aprovechando la situación creada tras la Revolución de septiembre de 1868. Se realiza un acercamiento al funcionamiento de la institución provincial, el papel que juega dentro de las diferentes instancias de poder y el uso que de ella hacen las fuerzas políticas como mecanismo de control.

Context sensitive design of provincial road Galliera SP4.

In the past centuries and before the invention of automobile, roads consisted mainly of unpaved paths connecting only few cities. Later, in the beginning of the twentieth century, the automobile was introduced and a new type of the transportation system was born. Therefore, it was necessary to change the condition of roads to fit with the automobiles. With the spread and the development of the automobiles, roads also have developed and increased all over the world. That caused negative effects on the environment and humans’ life quality. Thus, highways associations and communities had to take some steps to reduce these effects and care about environmental and cultural issues with the traditional commitment to safety and mobility, and that is known as context sensitive design. The aim of this thesis is to use the concepts of context sensitive design to reduce the negative environmental impacts of provincial road Galliera, which connects via Colombo in city of Bologna to provincial road 3 in Argelato city. Some solutions were proposed in this thesis to reduce traffic noise, fragmentation, fauna mortality and to improve the aesthetics of the road.

Party Size and Constituency Representation: Evidence from the 19th-Century U.S. House of Representatives

Research on congressional parties assumes, but has not directly shown, that party size affects individual members' calculations. Drawing on a key case from the nineteenth-century House the secession-driven Republican hegemony of 1861 this article explores the hypothesis that party voting not only declines but also becomes more strongly linked to constituency factors as relative party size increases. The analysis reveals that the jump in party size coincides with (1) a decrease in party voting among individual continuing members, (2) a strengthening association between some constituency factors and party voting, and (3) patterns of decline in individual party voting that are explained in part by constituency measures.

The Tea Party and Social Movements

The recent rise of the Tea Party movement has added a new dimension to our discussion of domestic politics. The main question is: what effect will the Tea Party have on the political landscape? The best way to answer this question is to place the Tea Party in historical and theoretical context, in order to discuss what type of social movement the Tea Party is and what impact it might have. To this end, I will define and discuss the two major literatures in socialmovement theory: Issue Evolution and Political Process theory. This theoretical framework will provide the basis for a more concrete definition of the Tea Party movement itself. I will attemptto define the Tea Party movement based on its demographics, goals and political successes and will discuss it within the context of this theoretical framework. In addition, I will discuss four landmark social movements within our country’s history through the lens of the theoretical framework. I have found that successful movements rely on a combination of internal organizations and networks and external political opportunities to achieve and maintain nationalrelevance. In the end, I will come to the conclusion that the Tea Party will not likely have a major lasting impact on the political arena. It lacks key parts of the internal structure that makes some movements, such as the Civil Rights movement, so influential. But in the short term it will succeed in pushing the Republican Party towards a more fiscally conservative position.
