Neste artigo visamos apontar, apoiadas em W. Benjamim e G. Agamben, a fragilização do registro da experiência e sua incidência na lógica do poder/violência. Analisamos, pretendendo desmistificar a eficácia dos discursos mortificadores da experiência, a figura do "mulçumano"; - nome que designava os mortos-vivos nos campos de concentração, conforme relato de Primo Levi e outros. Tal figura é emblemática do estado limite a que chegaram algumas pessoas e podem expressar o destino de alguns sujeitos na contemporaneidade. Pudemos identificar nessa posição tanto um movimento na direção da perda do laço identificatório com o semelhante, como uma forma de resistência à violência perpetrada pelo discurso social. Tal resistência consiste em operar uma mimese ao objeto resto, o que permite ao sujeito a manutenção da estrutura fantasmática. Indicamos que, apesar das estratégias do poder, o sujeito reinventa modos de se situar na relação ao Outro, nos quais se fazem importantes a presença e a palavra, incluindo aí a experiência psicanalítica.

A produção de desenhos em grupo e o método de Rorschach foram utilizados ao longo do tratamento de um paciente com esquizofrenia, acompanhado em Centro de Atenção Psicossocial. O referencial proposto para a compreensão do caso é o método fenômeno-estrutural que busca acessar o modo de ser e de vivenciar a doença que afeta o paciente, a partir do que ele revela nas imagens e na linguagem. Aos desenhos de cores acromáticas e conteúdos humanos deformados, o paciente insere cores, representantes da expressão afetiva, e figuras humanas integradas, denotando disponibilidade nas relações. O Rorschach indica contato mais adequado com a realidade, dado a diminuição da distorção da percepção da forma e de figuras fantasiosas. Após diminuição da sintomatologia persecutória e isolamento social, o paciente recebeu alta. O uso desses instrumentos tem contribuído na difícil tarefa diagnóstica e no acompanhamento da evolução de pacientes, nos cuidados interdisciplinares em saúde mental.

A irreverência e a criticidade de alguns rappers e o gingar alegre do corpo erótico proposto pelo funk sugerem um novo cenário para as metrópoles do país, em que a pluralidade da arte juvenil surge como forma de enfrentamento das marcas deixadas por fraturas sociais profundas. Os conceitos de "visão dionisíaca de mundo", "estética extrema" e "transvaloração dos valores", de Nietzsche, e o "erotismo", segundo Bataille, nortearam o método de ruptura de campo, concebido por Herrmann. Este, essencial para se repensar as noções de autoridade e tradição na sociedade contemporânea a partir das ideias veiculadas pelo rap e pelo funk. Consideramos que somente uma etnografia do olhar que apanhe a dimensão erótica e irreverente - a "eróptica", segundo Canevacci - destas manifestações poderia nelas identificar uma estética afirmativa e crítica, como diria Nietzsche, capaz de produzir uma verdadeira reversão dos valores em nossa sociedade e, no caso, no interior da própria escola.

Neste trabalho discutimos o posicionamento de lideranças cristãs sobre a "gestão" das sexualidades dos jovens, no contexto de interpelação das políticas sexuais do Estado. As reflexões resultam de pesquisa etnográfica, conduzida através de levantamento documental, observação e entrevistas com 47 religiosos em Recife. A análise dos dados evidencia o espaço religioso como instância disciplinar que opera a partir de uma razão transcendente ("responsabilidade"). Espera-se que esta seja incorporada pela pessoa, que, então, passa a ser capaz de fazer escolhas apropriadas e diferenciar o "certo" do "errado". Aids e gravidez na adolescência aparecem como resultantes das "tentações da carne/erótico". Na perspectiva dos Direitos Sexuais e à Saúde, o artigo visa desconstruir a carne como domínio de "tentação" e de "força essencial" que leva ao desvio/pecado/"risco"; ressituando-a como instância positiva dos sujeitos (de direitos), e condição de fertilidade social.

In the present work, Raman Microscopy was employed in the characterization of the pigments used in a drawing assigned to Tarsila do Amaral, one of the most important Brazilian artists. The work (colored pencil on paper), supposedly produced in the 1920 decade, is of a very simple composition, where blue, green and brown were the colors used. Prussian Blue was found as the blue pigment, whereas green was a mixture of copper phthalocyanine and a yellow dye, probably a diarylide; the brown pigment was a carbonaceous compound. Prussian Blue was replaced by phthalocyanine as pigment since the end of the 1930's and the possibility that it could have been used as pigment in the 1920's can be ruled out.

OBJETIVOS: desenvolver uma metodologia de intervenção e aplicá-la às equipes das Secretarias Estaduais de Saúde (SES) objetivando incorporar a prática de monitoramento e avaliação da atenção básica através de processo de capacitação e realização de atividade real de planejamento e programação em saúde. MÉTODOS: foi desenvolvido um processo de ensino-aprendizagem-trabalho que incorporou ao processo de capacitação uma atividade de planejamento em saúde. A qualidade dos dois processos é assegurada através do estabelecimento de princípios e critérios para a organização da capacitação, para a elaboração da proposta metodológica de monitoramento e avaliação e para a condução didático-pedagógica do curso. RESULTADOS: a metodologia foi aplicada nos Estados de Mato Grosso do Sul (MS), Tocantins (TO) e Amazonas (AM), respeitando as particularidades locais em termos de organização da SES e da qualificação e capacidade dos técnicos responsáveis pela atenção básica. Foram produzidas propostas metodológicas estruturalmente semelhantes, mas diferentes nas suas prioridades e propostas de desenvolvimento. Dois anos após o término da intervenção, efeitos desse trabalho ainda estão sendo identificados. CONCLUSÕES: os resultados obtidos em MS, TO e AM revelam a capacidade que a abordagem baseada na tríade ensino-aprendizagem-trabalho possui para a institucionalização de novas práticas de trabalho nos serviços de saúde.

Introduction. This protocol aims at measuring the mechanical characteristics of bananas, especially peel and fruit hardness, and pulp firmness; it can also allow the mechanical characterisation of green or ripening fruit of different pedo-climatic origins and/or varieties. Materials and methods. This part describes the required laboratory materials and the three steps necessary for the measurement of the mechanical characteristics of bananas. Results. The data allow the drawing of a curve characterising the firmness of the fruit (slope), hardness of the peel (peak) and hardness of the pulp (plateau).

Introduction. This method is used to forecast the harvest date of banana bunches from as early as the plant shooting stage. It facilitates the harvest of bunches with the same physiological age. The principle, key advantages, time required and expected results are presented. Materials and methods. Details of the four steps of the method ( installation of the temperature sensor, tagging bunches at the flowering stage, temperature sum calculation and estimation of bunch harvest date) are described. Possible problems are discussed. Results. The application of the method allows drawing a curve of the temperature sum accumulated by the bunches which have to be harvested at exactly 900 degree-days physiological age.

In this article, we present the results of ethnographic research undertaken in areas with concentrated recreational venues frequented by diverse youth groups in the city of Sao Paulo, Brazil. This material is part of the larger ""Relationships between race, gender and sexuality in different national and local contexts"" research initiative. Here, we focus upon data collected through ethnographic observation and interviews conducted in various locales where young men meet to engage in homoerotic sociability, demonstrating different degrees of conviviality among groups of different socioeconomic profiles and distinct esthetic preferences, consumer habits, and body types. We explore the production of styles and body presentations that link markers of color/race, gender, and sexuality, as well as the relationships that these maintain with opening or restricting possibilities for the establishment of erotic and affective partnerships involving these boys.

A thermodynamic approach is presented to model devices manufactured with cellular polymers. They are heterogeneous nonpolar space-charge electrets that exhibit much higher piezoelectricity than the well-known ferroelectric polymers. Their pyroelectric and piezoelectric properties are characterized by adequate coefficients which quantify the performance of devices manufactured with those materials. The method presented in this contribution to calculate those coefficients is exact and consistent avoiding ad hoc simplifications introduced in other approaches. The results obtained by this method allow drawing conclusions regarding device optimization.

Background: The inference of gene regulatory networks (GRNs) from large-scale expression profiles is one of the most challenging problems of Systems Biology nowadays. Many techniques and models have been proposed for this task. However, it is not generally possible to recover the original topology with great accuracy, mainly due to the short time series data in face of the high complexity of the networks and the intrinsic noise of the expression measurements. In order to improve the accuracy of GRNs inference methods based on entropy (mutual information), a new criterion function is here proposed. Results: In this paper we introduce the use of generalized entropy proposed by Tsallis, for the inference of GRNs from time series expression profiles. The inference process is based on a feature selection approach and the conditional entropy is applied as criterion function. In order to assess the proposed methodology, the algorithm is applied to recover the network topology from temporal expressions generated by an artificial gene network (AGN) model as well as from the DREAM challenge. The adopted AGN is based on theoretical models of complex networks and its gene transference function is obtained from random drawing on the set of possible Boolean functions, thus creating its dynamics. On the other hand, DREAM time series data presents variation of network size and its topologies are based on real networks. The dynamics are generated by continuous differential equations with noise and perturbation. By adopting both data sources, it is possible to estimate the average quality of the inference with respect to different network topologies, transfer functions and network sizes. Conclusions: A remarkable improvement of accuracy was observed in the experimental results by reducing the number of false connections in the inferred topology by the non-Shannon entropy. The obtained best free parameter of the Tsallis entropy was on average in the range 2.5 <= q <= 3.5 (hence, subextensive entropy), which opens new perspectives for GRNs inference methods based on information theory and for investigation of the nonextensivity of such networks. A key objective of developing countries is to provide affordable access to modern energy services in order to support economic and social development. The paper presents a number of arguments for why and in which way energy access and affordability can play a key role in national development programs and in achieving the Millennium Development Goals. Approaches for measuring accessibility and affordability are presented, drawing on case studies of Bangladesh. Brazil, and South Africa, countries with different rates of electrification. Affordability of using electricity is examined in relation to the energy expenditure burden for households and time consumption. Conclusions focus on lessons learned and recommendations for implementing policies, instruments, and regulatory measures to tackle the challenge of affordability. (C) 2011 Elsevier Ltd. The skewness sk(G) of a graph G = (V, E) is the smallest integer sk(G) >= 0 such that a planar graph can be obtained from G by the removal of sk(C) edges. The splitting number sp(G) of C is the smallest integer sp(G) >= 0 such that a planar graph can be obtained from G by sp(G) vertex splitting operations. The vertex deletion vd(G) of G is the smallest integer vd(G) >= 0 such that a planar graph can be obtained from G by the removal of vd(G) vertices. Regular toroidal meshes are popular topologies for the connection networks of SIMD parallel machines. The best known of these meshes is the rectangular toroidal mesh C(m) x C(n) for which is known the skewness, the splitting number and the vertex deletion. In this work we consider two related families: a triangulation Tc(m) x c(n) of C(m) x C(n) in the torus, and an hexagonal mesh Hc(m) x c(n), the dual of Tc(m) x c(n) in the torus. It is established that sp(Tc(m) x c(n)) = vd(Tc(m) x c(n) = sk(Hc(m) x c(n)) = sp(Hc(m) x c(n)) = vd(Hc(m) x c(n)) = min{m, n} and that sk(Tc(m) x c(n)) = 2 min {m, n}.

This study aimed to compare cognitive function of cancer pain patients being given opioids during their cancer treatment (n = 14) with that of patients receiving treatment without opioids (n = 12). Correlations between cognitive function, pain intensity, and opioid dose were analyzed. Patients were assessed 3 times in a I-month period, using the Trail-Making Test, Mini-Mental State Examination, Digit Span, and Brief Cognitive Screening Battery. Opioid use was not associated with clear cognitive impairment. Patients being treated without opioids did perform better in the Digit Span Test reverse-order test (P = .029) and the clock drawing test (P = .023), but the differences arose in just I assessment in each case. Pain intensity correlated negatively with scores in the Mini-Mental State Examination (P = .001) and some Brief Cognitive Screening Battery tests (incidental recall, immediate recall, and late recall; P <= .042) in the group receiving opioids. Opioid dose did not correlate with any of the measures of cognitive performance. However, the patients with the worst performance scores were those with more severe pain. Further studies are needed to clearly distinguish between the effects of opioids versus the effects of pain.

Manual asymmetries were analyzed in 18- to 63-year-old right-handers in different motor tasks. This analysis aimed at describing the asymmetry profile for each task and assessing their stability across ages. For this purpose, performance of the right and left hands were analyzed in the following aspects: simple reaction time, rate of sequential finger movements, maximum grip force, accuracy in anticipatory timing, rate of repetitive tapping, and rate of drawing movements. In addition, stability of manual preference across ages was assessed through the Edinburgh inventory (Oldfield, 1971). The results indicated different profiles of manual asymmetry, with identification of three categories across tasks: symmetric performance (asymmetry indices close to zero), inconsistent asymmetry (asymmetry indices variable in magnitude and direction), and consistent asymmetry (asymmetry indices favoring a single hand). The different profiles observed in the young adults were stable across ages with two exceptions: decreased lateral asymmetry for maximum grip force and increased asymmetry for sequential drawing in older individuals. These results indicate that manual asymmetries are task specific. Such task specificity is interpreted to be the result of different sensorimotor requirements imposed by each motor task in association with motor experiences accumulated over the lifetime. Analysis of manual preference showed that strength of preference for the right hand was greater in older individuals. (C) 2008 Elsevier Masson Srl. All rights reserved.
