The objective of this study objective was to evaluate the selectivity of pre-emergence applications the herbicide clomazone cotton seeds treated with dietholate and zinc acetate. The 4 x 2 factorial arrangement was adopted (4 seed treatment methods and 2 clomazone dosages), distributed in a randomized block design with 4 repetitions. In treatments where dietholate and zinc acetate were applied, rates of 0.4 kg ha(-1) and 8 ml per kg of seeds were used respectively. The clomazone rates used refer to 0.8 and 1.0 kg ha(-1). The cotton cultivar used was the Fiber Max 966 LL. Independent of treatment, all seeds were treated with tiametoxam insecticide and fludioxonil + metalaxyl-M fungicide at rates of 2.24 and 0.08 + 0.03 g per kg of seed, respectively, to control pests early and limit losses caused by pathogens in germination and seedling emergence. Dietholate and zinc acetate treatment had greater initial effect on cotton plants at 21, 30 and 45 days after application. In phytointoxication symptoms were observed for treatment with dietholate and zinc acetate during the evaluation periods. Seeds treated with dietholate, dietholate and zinc acetate or zinc acetate alone provided a higher number of bolls and seed cotton production compared to the control.

The hydrolysis step for sugar production in biorefineries is crucial for the sequential processes involved and cellulases cocktails behave differently according to the pretreatment employed. In this study, the application of the cellulases cocktail produced by the fungus Myceliophthora thermophila JCP1-4 was studied on the saccharification of sugarcane bagasse pretreated by ozonolysis and thermic ferric nitrate (TFN), and the results were compared with commercial enzymes (Novozymes Celluclast 1.5L, Novozym 188). The fungal cellulases cocktail hold an activity of FPU:β-glucosidase of 1:4(U/mL); time, temperature, FPU by g of cellulose load and percentage of dry matter (DM) were studied. The analysis of central composite design of TFN pretreated showed that fungal cellulases works better in DM values of 3–3.5% (4.5% for commercial), temperatures higher than 50 °C (<45 °C for commercial) and 15FPU for both; commercial enzymes yielded 7.78 g/L of reducing sugars and the fungal enzymes 5.42 g/L. With the ozone pretreated, the fungal enzymes presented a higher thermostability with faster kinects, being able to produce 5.56 g/L of reducing sugars (60 °C, 8 h), against 5.20 g/L for commercial enzymes (50 °C, 24 h), (10FPU, 3%DM for both). The FPU derivate analysis revels better yields with 7.5FPU, and the increase of DM to 7.5% resulted 13.28 g/L of reducing sugars.

Background: Depression and anxiety are psychiatric disorders that are related to tobacco use and associated with dependence, the process of cessation, lapses and relapses after quitting smoking. Objective: To analyze the association of nicotine dependence with the level of anxiety and depression in patients who are in the process of smoking cessation. Methods: Cross-sectional study conducted with patients who sought the smoking cessation program in Cuiabá/MT. All the smokers enrolled from May to August 2012, participated in this study. Four instruments were applied: Socio-demographic Questionnaire, Fagerstrom test, Beck Anxiety Inventory and Beck Depression Inventory. Following bivariate analysis, using the crude prevalence ratio, with level of significance lower than 5% (p < 0.05), having as variable outcome the nicotine dependence >= 5 (Fagerstrom). The associations with p < 0.20 were selected for robust Multiple Poisson Regression (RPa). Results: Associations of Fagerstrom >= 5 with the male sex (RP = 1.15 CI 95% 1.03-1.28); number of cigarettes/day (RP = 1,33; CI 95% 1.19-1.48); and moderate/severe level of depression (RP = 1.15; CI 95% 1.04-1.28) were found. In the final model (RPa), the following variables remained associated: male gender (RPa 1.12; CI 95% 1.01-1.24), number of cigarettes/day (RPa 1.28; CI 95% 1.15-1.43) and high level of depression (RPa 1.12; CI 95% 1.01-1.23). Discussion: High level of nicotine dependence was associated significantly with the level of depression, emphasizing the association between smoking and psychiatric comorbidities.

The increased use of herbicides, coupled with inadequate use of these molecules, also increased concerns about the risks of environmental contamination and its effects on humans and animals. The objective of this work evaluates the potential for leaching of herbicides in the crop of cane sugar, in contrasting soils. Used samples were used Psament (NR - sandy texture) and Oxisol Red (LR - clay texture). After application of herbicides ametryne (NR 1.60 kg ha(-1) and LR 2.40 kg ha(-1)), clomazone (NR 0.90 kg ha(-1) and LR 1.10 kg ha(-1)) and diuron (NR 1.60 kg ha(-1) and LR 3.20 kg ha(-1)), were irrigated blades of 0, 20, 40, 60, 80 and 100 mm of water in soil columns. Results indicate that ametryne in NR samples submitted to the handling layer of 5-10 cm when applied blades of 20 and 40 mm of water. It was evident that the clomazone, regardless of the soil, did not exceed 0-5 cm water depths of 0 to 20 mm of water and 5-10 cm deep in the blades above 40 mm of water. With blades up to 80 mm, the diuron leaching only in layers 0-5 cm deep in LR. Conclude that the potential of leaching of diuron and ametryne was influenced by soil texture together with the organic matter content, the same was not true for clomazone.

Introduction: The urgent need for studies using standardized protocols to evaluate the real biological effects of PRP has been emphasized by several authors. Objective: The purpose of this study was to standardize a methodology for autologous Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) preparation in rats. Material and methods: Twentyfour, 5 to 6-month-old, male rats, weighing 450 to 500 g were used. After general anesthesia, 3.15 ml of blood was collected from each animal, via cannulation of the jugular vein. A standardized technique of double centrifugation was used to prepare PRP. PRP samples and peripheral blood platelets were then manually counted using a Neubauer chamber. Student’s t-test was used to compare the differences between the number of platelets in peripheral blood and PRP samples (p < 0.05). In addition, PRP and peripheral blood smears were stained to see platelets’ morphology. Results: All surgical procedures were well tolerated by the animals and they were healthy during the entire experimental period. PRP samples showed higher significantly platelet concentrations than peripheral blood samples (2,677,583 and 683,680 respectively). Conclusion: Within the limits of this study, it can be concluded that the method used produced autologous PRP with appropriated platelet quantity and quality, in rats.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of sugarcane juice treatment using Moringa oleifera leaf and seeds extracts on ethanolic fermentation. The experiment was arranged in a split plot statistical design, with four replications. Main treatments were three sedimentation agents (synthetic polyelectrolyte, moringa leaf and seed extracts) and control while the secondary treatments were two sugarcane varieties (RB867515 and CTC4). Extracted sugarcane juice was clarified by simple defecation with pH adjusted to 6.0. The flocculating agents were added in a decanter before the limed juice. After then, the juice was standardized to 16° Brix at pH 4.5, and musts were inoculated with yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae strain, FT858. At the end of the fermentation process, wines were recovered by centrifugation. In all experimental stages, extracted juice, clarified juice and wine were chemically and technologically characterized. The use of moringa leaf and seed extracts as sedimentation adjuvants did not increase the sedimentation speed of impurities. However, there was a high sludge compaction, which was essential for maintenance of yeast and bud population at the beginning of fermentation, and yeast budding rate in the end. The use of different sedimentation agents as adjuvants in juice treatment did not affect wine quality and ethanol yield.

The article entitled Cultural Practices in Teaching Portuguese for Foreigners aims to disseminate teaching practices facing the language teaching to students from Guinea Bissau or whom the Portuguese of Portugal is the official language. We seek to problematize the course given to those students with the purpose of appropriating the " resources of expression" for approval in subjects who were enrolled in Brazil in the first half of undergraduate Letras course in a higher education institution.
