Traditionally, the main source of funding for university research comes from either private or government grants. Grant schemes are usually highly competitive with low success rates, favour experienced or senior researchers and take considerable time to be processed thereby delaying potential discoveries. In December 2012 pozible.com and Deakin University agreed to create an opportunity for the community funding of Australian university research. Research My World launched to the public in May 2013 with eight campaigns spanning a range of academic discipline areas and project types. Subsequent project cycles have occurred at approximately six monthly intervals and the program was expanded to include research bids from other universities and research centres. As of mid-November 2015, 19 successful research crowdfunding projects have raised more than more than AU$185,000 in funding at Deakin University alone. This paper presents the results of a research investigation into the Research My World crowdfunding initiative. We detail the method developed for the collection and visualisation of social media data related to the research crowdfunding projects, the analysis of the links between social media activity and project success, and the general guidance for future project cycles that we derived from this analysis.

Clinical Practice Guidelines are widely used to inform and improve the quality and consistency of clinical practice. Developing and publishing Clinical Practice Guidelines is a complex task involving multiple components. Electronic Content Management Systems are increasingly employed to make this task more manageable. The Content Management System market offers a variety of options for publishing content on the Internet. However, there are limited products that comprehensively address the requirements of publishing Clinical Practice Guidelines. The authors are involved in publishing guidelines for remote clinical practitioners in Australia and present their perspective about identifying an appropriate Content Management System. Several elements essential to addressing their unique editing needs are defined in this article. Unfortunately, customisation is very expensive and laborious: few Content Management System providers can comprehensively meet the needs of Clinical Practice Guidelines publishing. Being pragmatic about the level of functionality a product can offer to support publication is essential.

This paper portrays a general overview of the existing European legal framework that applies to the publication and consumption of linked data resources in typical settings. The point of view of both data publishers and data consumers is considered, identifying their rights and obligations, with special attention to those derived from the copyright and data protection laws. The goal of this analysis is to identify the practices that help to make the publication and consumption of linked data resources legally compliant processes. An insight on broader regulations, best practices and common situations is given.

Horacio Quiroga (1878-1937) es uno de los escritores más logrados por sus cuentos y sigue siendo aclamado por la crítica en el mundo de habla hispana. Sus obras son consideradas parte del canon dentro de la tradición literaria sudamericana. Algunas de sus historias más renombradas circulan para la audiencia más global, publicadas en diversas colecciones y antologías que han sido posibles por haber sido traducidas al inglés. La versión más disponible en inglés es la traducción realizada por Margaret Sayers Peden ((1976) 2004), Quiroga habla por medio de las elecciones que realizó la traductora. Sin embargo, cabe preguntarse: ¿es este el Horacio Quiroga que las generaciones anteriores conocieron, apreciaron y alabaron? ¿Han logrado sobrevivir a la operación traductológica en inglés su prosa exquisita y su narrativa fotográfica para los lectores en inglés? Este artículo intenta abordar temas centrales de la traducción literaria en cuanto los textos de Quiroga y de Sayers Peden. También trata sobre las estrategias de domesticación, sobre cómo la manipulación del original puede traer consecuencias para la legibilidad, además la importancia de conocer bien los rasgos sociopolíticos y las características geográficas y, no menor, la responsabilidad profesional implícita en el rol del traductor como mediador cultural ya que selecciona, edita y publica literatura que no pertenece a lo convencional y establecido.

This thesis has its origin in a previous work: “The Catalan theatrical life in the magazine ‘El Teatre Català’ (1912-1917)” (DEA, UCM, 2004-2005), focused on the history, description and the indexes of that magazine. Among the historical and literary references ordered there, we chose a figure that would make a monographic work resulting in the present Doctoral Thesis. The choice fell on Avel·lí Artís i Balaguer (1881-1954), whose personality and literary corpus, allow additional possibilities for research. The cultural and literary reach of his life and his work covers a whole historical cycle in Catalan culture and literature, which moves from its contemporary consolidation towards the drama of its temporal dislocation, between the Spanish Civil War and the exile experience. This e historical itinerary is represented by Avel·lí Artís i Balaguer, being a playwright and a publisher. He’s been considered a comedy playwright since his editions bear titles such as “comedy”, “pas comedy”, “sainet” “quadro”, “farce” or “dialogue”, at most we find the word “Drama” once and “tragicomedy” twice, and we can find all this, in a series of texts for the representation ranging from 1909 to 1938. Secondly, as a professional fully involved in printing and publishing, thereby covering since its first steps as a compositor in the late nineties of the 19th century until his activity as a crucial character for magazines and other publishing projects, from the first decade of the 20th century until the last year of his Mexican exile...

Portugal’s manufacturing sector has a significant importance both in national income and employment. As has been pointed out by several researchers, the traditional methods of analysis fail to grasp all the dimensions of economic competitiveness. This dissertation is then, at its core, an analysis of Portugal’s manufacturing industry in terms of the latter’s value added to production and impact to employment under the framework of global value chains. The current dissertation seeks to study in which way the Portuguese manufacturing industry, and its respective sectors, has a direct and indirect impact on the creation of value added and employment and how this impact can be measured. For development of this work the input-output approach for calculation of multipliers and the new framework proposed by Timmer et al. (2013) for calculation of GVC income and GVC jobs indicators were used, elaborated on the basis of the WIOD project dataset. Moreover, to illustrate the application of the provided methodology the Portuguese textile industry was used as an example. It was found that the changes in final demand of such sectors as Pulp, Paper, Printing and Publishing; Machinery, Nec and Textiles and Textile Products would have a larger impact on generated value added than other manufacturing sectors. At the same time, employment created by the changes in final demand would be more impacted by such sectors as Food, Beverages and Tobacco; Wood and Products of Wood and Cork and Textiles and Textile Products. In this regard, the number of low-skilled workers in Portugal seems to be more effected by changes in final demand, than those occupied by higher -skilled individuals. Moreover, it was found that the distribution of GVC income and GVC jobs for the Portuguese manufacturing industry shares a similar outlook. However, upon closer inspection of GVC labour distribution by skill levels there seems to exist a general progression in which low-skilled jobs requirements are met by local resources, while the need for higher skilled jobs require a greater “off-shoring” of work The results obtained through calculations of presented multipliers provide a powerful tool for policy makers in strategic planning of development of national economy. Using the provided methodology and obtained results, a government and supranational organizations could define which industry would have the greatest impact for an additional unit of output generated through the economy, and thus define the sectors for further investments.

The South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE) is required by the State of South Carolina to provide an accurate physical count of all Capitalized assets listed on their inventory by the end of the fiscal year. There were no published procedures for employees to follow as guidelines for identifying, tracking, reporting and disposing of assets. This has led to errors in identifying items that require asset numbers, completing the shopping carts and transfer/disposal of assets. These errors cause additional work for the Asset Accountant, Procurement Analyst and Accounts Payable Supervisor. The scope of this project is to improve the fixed asset process by developing and publishing asset inventory procedures to ensure accountability and accuracy of all item listed on SCDE inventory.

Cartonería Mosquera S.A. es una empresa familiar, que se encarga de la producción y distribución de diferentes empaques de cartón. La compañía pertenece al sector de artes gráficas colombiano, que se desagrega en las siguientes categorías: empaques y etiquetas; publicidad y comercial; editoriales, periódicos y revistas. Cartonería Mosquera S.A. se encuentra en la categoría de empaques y etiquetas. A 2016 la empresa cuenta con un área que administra tanto el mercadeo como la parte comercial conjuntamente y que tiene como objetivo final la gestión de la publicidad, la satisfacción del cliente y la fidelización del mismo. Aunque desde sus inicios, la compañía ha venido trabajando con esta estructura y ha cumplido hasta ahora con algunos de los resultados esperados, los nuevos retos del mercado tales como; el compromiso con el medio ambiente, la necesidad de realizar registros que avalen la calidad de la compañía, la entrada de competidores internos como externos al mercado y el desarrollo de nuevos insumos, ha creado la necesidad de buscar nuevas herramientas que mejoren el desempeño del área comercial y promover así el incremento de las ventas. Este Trabajo surgió inicialmente con la idea de realizar un plan de mercadeo a fin de incentivar y proponer una estrategia que generara un impacto positivo en las ventas de la empresa. Sin embargo, en el proceso de desarrollo, se vio la necesidad de realizar primero un plan de mejoramiento con una orientación a la parte comercial de la compañía. Es importante resaltar que el enfoque de este documento investigativo no solo proveerá herramientas para el mejoramiento de las ventas y financiero, sino también pretende mejorar la percepción de los asesores comerciales hacia su trabajo, sus jefes y la compañía.

This research project addresses a central question in the IS business value field: Does IS/IT investments impact positively on firm financial performance? IS/IT investments are seen as having an enormous potential impact on the competitive position of the firm, on its performance, and demand an active and motivated participation of several stakeholder groups. Actual research conducted in the Information Systems field, relating IS/IT investments with firm performance use transactions costs economics and resource-based view of the firm to try to explain and understand that relationship. However, it lacks to stress the importance of stakeholder management, as a moderator variable in that relationship. Stakeholder theory sees the firm as the hub centric to the spokes representing various stakeholders who were in essence equidistant to the firm, and survival and continuing profitability of the corporation depend upon its ability to fulfil its economic and social purpose, which is to create and distribute wealth or value sufficient to ensure that each primary stakeholder group continues as part of the corporation’s stakeholder system. Stakeholder theory in its instrumental version, argues that if a firm pays attention to the stakes of all stakeholder groups (and not just shareholders), it will obtain higher levels of financial performance. With this premise in mind, the aim of this paper is to discuss and test the use of stakeholder theory in the IS business value stream of research, in order to achieve a better understanding of the impact of IS/IT investments on firm performance (moderated by stakeholder management). To achieve the expected impact from an IS/IT investment, it is argued that firms need a strong commitment from those stakeholder groups, which lead us to the need of a corporate “stakeholder orientation”. When firm financial performance is measured by returns on assets (ROA), returns on investments (ROI) and returns on sales (ROS), the results show that “stakeholder orientation” impact positively in the relation between IS/IT and firm performance, using a sample of Portuguese large companies.

In this article, the main characteristics, achievements and difficulties in research and publishing management in higher education are presented, taking into account the experience of the author in the institutions to which she belongs (Teacher Trainning College and Graduate and Post graduate university levels) in Argentina. The presentation seeks to foster institutional exchange of experiences from sharing strategies that may help develop research activities as a key factor in teacher trainning.

The ethical and social responsibility of citing the sources in a scientific or artistic work is undeniable. This paper explores, in a preliminary way, academic plagiarism in its various forms. It includes findings based on a forensic analysis. The purpose of this paper is to raise awareness on the importance of considering these details when writing and publishing a text. Hopefully, this analysis may put the issue under discussion.

Este artículo es resultado del seguimiento a graduados de la carrera de Ciencias Geográficas desde el año 2005. El objetivo general se centró en analizar las tareas que realizan los geógrafos para establecer la correspondencia con el perfil del graduado. Se identificaron 16 líneas de trabajo y las tareas realizadas en cada una de éstas, desde la perspectiva de los graduados. Los resultados indican que el área que emplea mayor número de geógrafos es Ciencias de la Información Geográfica; en tanto el área de enseñanza y divulgación de la Geografía ofrece una oportunidad de complementar el empleo principal. Los empleadores destacan como fortalezas de los geógrafos la formación humanista y en Ciencias de la Información Geográfica, Paisaje, Territorio y Recursos Naturales, Gestión y Ordenamiento del Territorio. Se concluye que las tareas realizadas son congruentes con el perfil del graduado del plan de estudio de la carrera.Palabras claves: Líneas de  trabajo del geógrafo, mercado  laboral del geógrafo, carrera de Ciencias Geográficas Universidad Nacional, seguimiento a graduados, perfil del graduado. AbstractThis article is the result of monitoring graduates who started their careers in geographic sciences from the year 2005. Sixteen jobs and the functions of each of these were identified, from the perspective of the graduates. The general objective centered on analyzing the tasks the geographers performed in order to establish the relationship with the graduate profile.The results indicated that the major field of employment is Geographical Information Sciences, meanwhile the field of teaching and publishing offer an opportunity to complement the primary job. The employers emphasized the humanistic formation and geographic information sciences, landscape, land and natural resources, land management and zoning. It concluded that the tasks carried out are congruent with the profile of the graduateʼs plan of course study. Many aspects of China's academic publishing system differ from the systems found in liberal market based economies of the United States, Western Europe and Australia. A high level of government intervention in both the publishing industry and academia and the challenges associated with attempting to make a transition from a centrally controlled towards a more market based publishing industry are two notable differences; however, as in other countries, academic communities and publishers are being transformed by digital technologies. This research explores the complex yet dynamic digital transformation of academic publishing in China, with a specific focus of the open and networked initiatives inspired by Web 2.0 and social media. The thesis draws on two case studies: Science Paper Online, a government-operated online preprint platform and open access mandate; and New Science, a social reference management website operated by a group of young PhD students. Its analysis of the innovations, business models, operating strategies, influences, and difficulties faced by these two initiatives highlights important characteristics and trends in digital publishing experiments in China. The central argument of this thesis is that the open and collaborative possibilities of Web 2.0 inspired initiatives are emerging outside the established journal and monograph publishing system in China, introducing innovative and somewhat disruptive approaches to the certification, communication and commercial exploitation of knowledge. Moreover, emerging publishing models are enabling and encouraging a new system of practising and communicating science in China, putting into practice some elements of the Open Science ethos. There is evidence of both disruptive change to old publishing structures and the adaptive modification of emergent replacements in the Chinese practice. As such, the transformation from traditional to digital and interactive modes of publishing, involves both competition and convergence between new and old publishers, as well as dynamics of co-evolution involving new technologies, business models, social norms, and government reform agendas. One key concern driving this work is whether there are new opportunities and new models for academic publishing in the Web 2.0 age and social media environment, which might allow the basic functions of communication and certification to be achieved more effectively. This thesis enriches existing knowledge of open and networked transformations of scholarly publishing by adding a Chinese story. Although the development of open and networked publishing platforms in China remains in its infancy, the lessons provided by this research are relevant to practitioners and stakeholders interested in understanding the transformative dynamics of networked technologies for publishing and advocating open access in practice, not only in China, but also internationally.

This case study examines the way in which Knowledge Unlatched is combining collective action and open access licenses to encourage innovation in markets for specialist academic books. Knowledge Unlatched is a not for profit organisation that has been established to help a global community of libraries coordinate their book purchasing activities more effectively and, in so doing, to ensure that books librarians select for their own collections become available for free for anyone in the world to read. The Knowledge Unlatched model is an attempt to re-coordinate a market in order to facilitate a transition to digitally appropriate publishing models that include open access. It offers librarians an opportunity to facilitate the open access publication of books that their own readers would value access to. It provides publishers with a stable income stream on titles selected by libraries, as well as an ability to continue selling books to a wider market on their own terms. Knowledge Unlatched provides a rich case study for researchers and practitioners interested in understanding how innovations in procurement practices can be used to stimulate more effective, equitable markets for socially valuable products.

2012 saw the publication of competing and complementary lines of Australian “classics”: “A&R Australian Classics” (HarperCollins) and “Text Classics” (Text Publishing). While Angus and Robertson were key in establishing a canon of Australian children’s classics in the twentieth century, it was the Text Classics line which included a selection of young people’s titles in their 2013. In turn, Penguin Australia launched a selection of “Australian Children’s Classics”. In so doing, these publishers were drawing on particular literary and visual cultural traditions in Australian children’s literature. Public assertions of a particular selection of children’s books reveals not only contemporary assumptions about desirable childhood experiences but about the operation of nostalgia therein. In encouraging Australian adults to judge books by their covers, such gestures imply that Australian children may be similarly understood. Importantly, the illusion of unity, sameness, and legibility which is promised by circumscribed canons of “classic” children’s literature may well imply a desire for similarly illusory, unified, legible, “classic” childhood. This paper attends to public attempts to materialise (and legitimise) a canon of classic Australian children’s literature. In particular, it considers the ways in which publishing, postage stamps, and book awards make visible a range of children’s books, but do so in order to either fix or efface the content or meaning of the books themselves. Moving between assertions of the best books for children from the 1980s to today, and of the social values circulated within those books, this paper considers the possibilities and problematics of an Australian children’s canon.
