Modelling of froth transportation, as part of modelling of froth recovery, provides a scale-up procedure for flotation cell design. It can also assist in improving control of flotation operation. Mathematical models of froth velocity on the surface and froth residence time distribution in a cylindrical tank flotation cell are proposed, based on mass balance principle of the air entering the froth. The models take into account factors such as cell size, concentrate launder configuration, use of a froth crowder, cell operating conditions including froth height and air rate, and bubble bursting on the surface. To get a better insight into the radiological features of industrial by-products that can be reused in building materials a review of the reported scientific data can be very useful. The current study is based on the continuously growing database of the By-BM (H2020-MSCA-IF-2015) project (By-products for Building Materials). Currently, the By-BM database contains individual data of about 431 by-products and 1095 building and raw materials. It was found that in case of the building materials the natural radionuclide content varied widely (Ra-226: <DL-27851 Bq/kg; Th-232: <DL-906 Bq/kg, K-40: <DL-17922 Bq/kg), more so than for the by-products (Ra-226: 7-3152 Bq/kg; Th-232: <DL-1350 Bq/kg, K-40: <DL-3001 Bq/kg). The average Ra-226, Th-232 and K-40 contents of the reported by-products were respectively 2.52, 2.35 and 0.39 times higher than the building materials. The gamma exposure of bulk building products was calculated according to IAEA Specific Safety Guide No. SSG-32 and the European Commission Radiation Protection 112 based I-index (EU BSS). It was found that in most cases the I-index without density consideration provides a significant overestimation in excess effective dose.

O estudo realizado com a finalidade de formular sistemas de producao mais rentaveis para a cultura do tomate (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill) industrial, constatou-se que, para os dois sistemas de cultivo confrontados (sistema tradicional e sistema modificado), o custo total da producao foi menor no sistema modificado, tendo ocorrido aumento da produtividade e da receita liquida. O emprego da tecnologia gerada pela pesquisa ocasionou uma reducao dos custos da ordem de 40% variando de Cr$ 126.563,00/ha no sistema tradicional para Cr$ 75.262,00/ha no sistema modificado. Com a elevacao da produtividade e a reducao dos custos, a receita liquida variou de Cr$ 182.462,59/ha no sistema tradicional, para Cr$ 393.751,41/ha no modificado. Com isto a razao beneficio/custo, que foi de Cr$ 1,44 no sistema tradicional, elevou-se para Cr$ 5,23 no sistema modificado.

Purpose: To evaluate the influence of surface treatments on microtensile bond strength of luting resin cements to fiber posts. Materials and Methods: Forty-two quartz fiber posts (Light Post, RTD) were divided into 7 groups (n = 6) according to the surface treatment. I and 11: experimental patented industrial treatment consisting of zirconium oxide coating and silanization (RTD); III: industrial treatment followed by adhesive application (XPBond, Dentsply Caulk); IV: adhesive (XPBond); V: adhesive (Prime&Bond NT, Dentsply Caulk); VI: silane (Calibra Silane, Dentsply Caulk); VII: no treatment. Adhesives were used in the self-curing mode. Two cements (Sealbond, RTD - group 1, and Calibra, Dentsply Caulk - groups 11 to VII) were applied on the posts to produce cylindrical specimens. Post/cement interfaces were evaluated under SEM. The surface of the industrially coated posts was examined using energy dispersive analysis by x-ray. Cylinders were cut to obtain microtensile sticks that were loaded in tension at a crosshead speed of 0.5 mm/min until failure. Statistical analysis was performed using Kruskal-Wallis analysis of variance followed by Dunn`s multiple range test for post-hoc comparisons (p < 0.05). Weibull analysis was also performed. Results: The post/cement bond strength was significantly higher on fiber posts treated industrially (I: 23.14 +/- 8.05 MPa; II: 21.56 +/- 7.07 MPa; III: 22.37 +/- 7.00 MPa) or treated with XPBond adhesive (IV: 21.03 +/- 5.34 MPa) when compared to Prime&Bond NT application (V: 14.05 +/- 5.06 MPa), silanization (VI: 6.31 +/- 4.60 MPa) or no treatment (VII: 4.62 +/- 4.31) of conventional fiber posts (p < 0.001). Conclusion: The experimental industrial surface treatment and the adhesive application enhanced fiber post to resin cement interfacial strength. Industrial pretreatment may simplify the clinical luting procedure.

A evoluo dos acidentes graves envolvendo substncias perigosas ocorridos no Sector Qumico, no deixa dvidas de que as caractersticas intrnsecas da prpria actividade industrial podem estimular a ocorrncia dos acidentes graves, proporcionando srias consequncias Comunidade envolvente, prpria Propriedade e ao meio ambiente, cujas responsabilidades esto inseridas na Gesto Empresarial. Desta forma torna-se fundamental o desenvolvimento e implementao de um Sistema de Gesto de Segurana para a Preveno de Acidentes Graves num Estabelecimento de Nvel Superior de Perigosidade. O objectivo global deste trabalho, baseia-se no estabelecimento de um Quadro Metodolgico de aplicao do Regime de Preveno de Acidentes Graves ao Sector Qumico, suportado num Sistema de Gesto de Segurana para a Preveno de Acidentes Graves (SGSPAG) e no respectivo Manual de Implementao. Para tal foi realizado um enquadramento terico, tcnico-cientfico, e legal da preveno de acidentes graves que envolvam substncias perigosas, a concepo de um SGSPAG e elaborao do Manual de Implementao e a aplicao a um Caso de Estudo Industrial do SGSPAG com a correspondente anlise crtica. O contexto especfico foi o da Refinaria de Sines - Instalao de Dessulfurao de Gasleo. A pesquisa foi acompanhada por um conjunto de mtodos que permitiram uma viso mais actual do assunto no contexto seleccionado (dados adquiridos atravs de referncias bibliogrficas, da observao in-loco de auditorias de SGSPAG, da consulta de documentao relativa a auditorias SGSPAG e do estudo da legislao vigente e passada). Os resultados obtidos no Caso de Estudo Industrial, demonstraram que uma viso mais integradora e global podem contribuir para um melhor entendimento dos acidentes graves envolvendo substncias perigosas e a sua preveno, possibilitando um envolvimento maior e o comprometimento efectivo de todos, sejam eles trabalhadores (internos ou servios subcontratados), Chefes de Seco, Responsveis de rea, fornecedores, profissionais de outras reas, Direco da Empresa, representantes sindicais ou governamentais ou a prpria Comunidade envolvente, estando o SGSPAG da Refinaria de Sines globalmente concebido, implementado e a demonstrar aptido para, de uma forma consistente, cumprir os requisitos aplicveis no DL n 254/2007 e atingir os objectivos da Politica de Preveno de Acidentes Graves.
