Payment order for Samuel Adams on behalf of John Rice, 1772 July 1

Handwritten order to John Sale to pay scholarship funds to Samuel Adams for use by student John Rice (Harvard AB 1774), signed by Charles Chauncey, Thomas Waite, Jonathan Williams, and Daniel Marsh.

Payment order for Ezra Ripley, 1801 July 13

Handwritten order to John Sale to pay scholarship funds to Ezra Ripley for use by his son Samuel Ripley (Harvard AB 1804), signed by William Emerson, David Tilden, and James Morrill.

Transcription of diary entries, 1801-1803

A note indicates that White originally made these entries in his copies of the Massachusetts Register. It is unclear who prepared these transcriptions; they do not appear to be in White's hand.

Binding cost estimates, 1801

This six-page undated list contains volume titles and estimates for the cost of binding them. The list is undated, but one of the first entries contains the note, "from the year 1774 to the present time [1801]."

Student accounts in commons, 1772-1778

This small volume, sewn without a backing, contains student accounts in commons, with the dates students entered and left the College.

Quarter bill book for the Classes of 1784-1801, 1784-1797

Leather hardcover bound volume containing quarter bill tallies for the Classes of 1784-1801 arranged alphabetically and covering the bill period ending on May 27, 1784 through the period ending on November 23, 1797. After each quarter's tallies, an additional section provides the totals for all students in each of the categories, and "Orders on the above bill" listing individuals, including the Butler and sweepers, paid with the money.

Receipt signed by James Winthrop, 1772 December 10

Handwritten receipt signed by James Winthrop acknowledging money received from the Steward, also signed by Steward Jonathan Hastings. A handwritten transcription of the Corporation vote on December 10, 1772 granting money for caring for the College Library since May 1, 1772, is signed by President Samuel Locke on other side of the document.
