Regional variation in the annual feeding cycle of juvenile walleye pollock (Theragra chalcogramma) in the western Gulf of Alaska

Juvenile fish in temperate coastal oceans exhibit an annual cycle of feeding, and within this cycle, poor wintertime feeding can reduce body growth, condition, and perhaps survival, especially in food-poor areas. We examined the stomach contents of juvenile walleye pollock (Theragra chalcogramma) to explain previously observed seasonal and regional variation in juvenile body condition. Juvenile walleye pollock (1732 fish, 37–250 mm standard length) of the 2000 year class were collected from three regions in the Gulf of Alaska (Kodiak, Semidi, and Shumagin) representing an area of the continental shelf of ca. 100,000 km2 during four seasons (August 2000 to September 2001). Mean stomach content weight (SCW, 0.72% somatic body weight) decreased with fish body length except from winter to summer 2001. Euphausiids composed 61% of SCW and were the main determinant of seasonal change in the diets of fish in the Kodiak and Semidi regions. Before and during winter, SCW and the euphausiid dietary component were highest in the Kodiak region. Bioenergetics modeling indicated a relatively high growth rate for Kodiak juveniles during winter (0.33 mm standard length/d). After winter, Shumagin juveniles had relatively high SCW and, unlike the Kodiak and Semidi juveniles, exhibited no reduction in the euphausiid dietary component. These patterns explain previous seasonal and regional differences in body condition. We hypothesize that high-quality feeding locations (and perhaps nursery areas) shift seasonally in response to the availability of euphausiid

A identidade regional do Brasil: o sul-americanismo nos governos de Fernando Henrique Cardoso e de Lula da Silva (1995-2010)

A presente dissertação destina-se a analisar o processo de emergência da identidade sul-americana, cuja primeira manifestação remonta à década de 1990, acentuando-se após a I Reunião de Presidentes da América do Sul (2000). A imersão histórica de longa duração do primeiro capítulo, que nos remete à segunda década do século XIX, oferece-nos um instrumental analítico complementar ao arcabouço teórico utilizado, de modo a apresentar a identidade latino-americana principal concorrente da sul-americana como elemento criado a partir de estímulos vinculados a uma conjuntura específica. Desconstruídas supostas naturalidades identitárias, o segundo capítulo concentra-se na análise das principais iniciativas da diplomacia brasileira para a edificação dos diversos modelos de regionalismo no âmbito sul-americano, destacando-se a reunião proposta por Fernando Henrique Cardoso. Ato contínuo, o terceiro capítulo busca verificar as principais ações da gestão Lula da Silva para a região, tendo em vista que esta última foi alçada à condição de prioridade da política externa durante seu governo. Nesse sentido, levantamos os argumentos que embasam e estruturam a identidade sul-americana na virada do século XX para o XXI, trazendo à tona divergências paradigmáticas atinentes às agremiações partidárias que polarizam o cenário político nacional e, por conseguinte, apresentam convicções distintas no que tange ao aprofundamento dessa nova vertente identitária.

Análise regional geofísica e geológica das estruturas profundas na bacia de Santos

Na maioria das situações relacionadas aos estudos da Terra, um método geofísico não é suficiente para chegar a uma conclusão de uma questão específica, já que o mesmo é passivo de ambiguidades ou incertezas na interpretação. Para tal, se faz necessário que um ou mais métodos sejam integrados, gerando uma resposta que se aproxime do modelo real e com confiabilidade para que a mesma metodologia possa ser aplicada em outros casos similares, otimizando assim a utilização conjunta dos métodos. Partindo desse ponto o presente trabalho sugere a realização de uma Modelagem Gravimétrica 2-D, auxiliada por dados sísmicos e de poços, visando o mapeamento das estruturas profundas da bacia de Santos, já que o conhecimento sobre as mesmas é de grande importância para estudos tectônicos para reconstrução histórica da bacia que servem de parâmetro de entrada nos estudos de modelagem visando reconstruir os processos de geração, migração e acumulação de hidrocarbonetos.

Considerações sobre o planejamento regional no Rio de Janeiro: uma análise do Consórcio Intermunicipal do Leste Fluminense (CONLESTE)

Este trabalho apresenta e analisa o Consórcio Intermunicipal do Leste Fluminense (CONLESTE), criado em 2006 e composto por dezesseis municípios do estado do Rio de Janeiro, com o objetivo de buscar soluções para os impactos do Complexo Petroquímico da Petrobras (Comperj). Discute a crise do planejamento regional e a ausência de arranjos de gestão do território que atendam às especificidades do pacto federativo brasileiro. Apresenta os consórcios intermunicipais como alternativa utilizada por muitas cidades brasileiras ao modelo obsoleto das Regiões Metropolitanas, sem, contudo, se deter na comprovação da eficiência dos mesmos. Através de uma revisão bibliográfica de autores clássicos e contemporâneos, aborda o controverso conceito de região, como método para compreender a função regional exercida pelo consórcio. Debate a importância das escalas intermediárias em meio à falsa polarização global-local. Reforça a ideia da necessidade de articulação entre as distintas esferas de governo como forma de minimizar os transtornos provocados pelo caos urbano em que vive a população da área do CONLESTE.

O léxico regional em Vidas Secas: subsídios para um dicionário da ficção de Graciliano Ramos

Vidas Secas, de Graciliano Ramos é considerada uma obra prima da ficção regional da Literatura Brasileira da Geração de 30. O romance é um documento sobre a vida miserável de uma família de retirantes nordestinos, que sofrem as consequências da seca no sertão. O estudo do vocabulário que permeia a trajetória dessa família gerou as bases para elaboração deste trabalho que tem como objetivo principal a formação de um glossário de termos regionais nordestinos presentes na obra em estudo, a fim de contribuir com um dicionário da ficção do referido autor. Para isso, faz-se necessário discorrer sobre a linguagem literária no Brasil a partir do Romantismo até o Modernismo.
