Introduction: In the digital environment, metadata influence both in data access and information retrieval and are used as search elements to facilitate locating resources on the Web. Objective: In this perspective, the aim is to present the methodology BEAM, developed in Biblioteca de Estudos e Aplicação de Metadados, of the Research Group “Novas Tecnologias em Informação” in Universidade Estadual Paulista and used to define the metadata for describing information resources. Methodology: The methodology used for the construction of the research is exploratory and bibliographic and was developed based on the theoretical method Chuttur (2011) and the life cycle of data from the DataOne (2012) and also the PDCA cycle and tool 5W1H . Results: The seven steps of the methodology are presented and also the necessary guidelines for their implementation. Conclusions: We conclude pointing BEAM methodology that can be adopted by libraries in the construction of catalogs aimed at meeting the needs of users.

The Information Access law, sanctioned in November 18, 2011, regulates the constitutional right of access to public information by Brazilian citizens. Although this law requires the provision of information of public interest, it does not define how such information should be made available. Ideally, information should be in an open format, allowing its use in an efficient and fast way. In the official sites of the federal government the way information is currently available does not allow its reuse as they are presented in dynamic pages from the selection parameters and filters. The objective aim of this paper is to present the system called MDDIR Tool, which proposes ways to persist, represent and retrieve digital information resources generated by the Federal Government official sites. Although this system had been designed for a specific purpose, it may be applied to other fields with similar characteristics. The purpose is to facilitate the access to open data, allowing such data to be consolidated and organized , generating new knowledge and information easy to be interpreted by the general population.

Thirty-three feedlot cattle nutritionists were surveyed to evaluate the management practices and nutritional recommendations adopted by feedlots in Brazil. The web-based survey consisted of 81 questions that included: general information (n = 10); general commodity information (n = 15); use of coproducts (n = 5), roughage source and level (n = 5); adaptation methods (n = 7); feed mixers (n = 6); feeding management (n = 6); cattle management and type of cattle fed (n = 13); formulation practices (n = 9); information resources used for nutritional recommendations (n = 2); and additional questions (n = 3). In total, the 33 nutritionists were responsible for approximately 2,658,000 animals, and moreover, 65.5% of those participants had clients that feed less than 5000 animals yearly. Corn was the primary source of grain used in feedlot diets (87.9%) and cracking was the primary processing method recommended by nutritionists (57.6%). The average concentrate and roughage inclusion in finishing diets was 79.0% and 21.0%, respectively. The main challenges faced by nutritionists are the lack of available and precise equipment and lack of trained employees with respiratory diseases as the main health problem. This survey of nutrition and management practices should aid in the development of research for the feedlot industry in Brazil and similar tropical climates, as well as provide data to facilitate the broader application of future NRC models. Nowadays the companies generate great amount of data from different sources, however some of them produce more data than they can analyze. Big Data is a set of data that grows very fast, collected several times during a short period of time. This work focus on the importance of the correct management of Big Data in an industrial plant. Through a case study based on a company that belongs to the pulp and paper area, the problems resolutions are going to be presented with the usage of appropriate data management. In the final chapters, the results achieved by the company are discussed, showing how the correct choice of data to be monitored and analyzed brought benefits to the company, also best practices will be recommended for the Big Data management

The study analyzed references listed by textbook authors from Nigerian polytechnics. The educational qualifications, subject background, and institutional affiliations of authors and publishers of textbooks were examined. Documentary research design was adopted for this study. A total of 102 books were examined using the availability sampling technique. Data gathered were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The study revealed that a significant majority of the textbooks were filled with citation errors. Findings revealed that a majority of the textbooks used the American Psychological association (APA) format of referencing. Further analysis revealed that a significant number of textbooks had no references at all. It was discovered that books by authors with lower qualifications are the most involved in the different types of citation errors. The study also revealed that few textbooks cited electronic information. The paper recommends that serious attention be given to bibliographical references by organizing workshops and seminars for authors.
