Standards for the Assessment of Need process under Part 2 of the Disability Act 2005 In 2004, the Irish Government launched the National Disability Strategy as a framework of positive action measures to support the participation of people with disabilities in Irish society. Two new pieces of legislation â?" the Education for Persons with Special Education Needs Act, 2004 (EPSEN Act 2004 hereafter) and the Disability Act, 2005 â?" form an integral part of this strategy and deal with the special education and/or health needs of persons. Interim Report of the Steering Group on the Review of the Mental Health Act 2001 There is a commitment in the Programme for Government to review the Mental Health Act 2001. In line with this, Minister Lynch appointed a Steering Group to review the Mental Health Act 2001. Their report is now with an Expert Group. The review takes accounts of the significant changes in thinking about the delivery of mental health services that have taken place in the last ten years (including the introduction of the UN Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities (CRPD), the shift to community based services, the adoption of a recovery approach in every aspect of service delivery and the involvement of service users as partners in their own care and in the development of the service). O2 : Estudi d'accessibilitat del repositori documental de la UOC

Els repositoris de documents són una font important d'informació per a in­vestigadors, universitaris, docents, i per qualsevol persona que vulgui ac­cedir a informació contrastada sobre qualsevol temàtica. És important que aquesta informació sigui accessible a tothom, i gràcies a Internet s'ha trobat el mitjà vehicular perquè això sigui possible. Ara bé, un cop tenim el mitjà per arribar-­hi, cal que el destí, els programaris contenidors dels repositoris, també siguin accessibles. Amb aquest propòsit, aquest treball recull la informació recaptada de l'avaluació d'una mostra de pàgines del repositori de la UOC. Aquesta avaluació s'ha fet seguint les directrius marcades per la W3C (World Wide Web Consortium), mitjançant el seu grup de treball WAI (Web Accessibility Initiative) i amb la versió 2.0 del recull de directrius WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines).

Accessibilitat web : revisió d'accessibilitat del repositori documental de la UOC, Dspace

Aquest treball fi de carrera tracta sobre les normes d'accessibilitat WCAG 2.0 ("Web Content Accessibility Guidelines"). Són una sèrie de pautes i recomanacions per fer el contingut web més accessible, sobretot a una gamma més àmplia de persones amb discapacitat, com ceguesa i baixa visió, sordesa i la pèrdua d'audició, problemes d'aprenentatge, limitacions cognitives, limitacions de moviments, problemes de parla, fotosensibilitat i combinacions d'aquestes. Seguint aquestes directrius també fan sovint el contingut del seu web més usable per als usuaris en general.Les WCAG 2.0, recomanació oficial des del 11 de desembre de 2008, s'organitzen en 4 principis fonamentals per a l'accessibilitat del contingut: perceptible, operable, comprensible i robust.En total conformen 12 pautes o directrius (guidelines), els dos primers principis tenen quatre pautes associades, el tercer té tres i l'últim una pauta. Aquestes pautes proporcionen els objectius bàsics per fer el contingut accessible, i serveixen per comprendre els criteris d'èxit i implementar-los. S'han definit 60 criteris d'èxit o punts de comprovació que defineixen el nivell d'accessibilitat (A, AA o AAA).Per altra banda, s'analitzaran alternatives al programari que empra la UOC, Dspace, com a repositori de documentació. D'aquestes alternatives es valorarà sobretot l'aspecte d'accessibilitat per tal de determinar si l'elecció del Dspace ha estat l'opció més adient. També es s'analitzaran algunes planes del repositori de la UOC per tal de verificar el nivell de compliment de de les WCAG 2.0.Al mateix temps es farà una recerca d'eines que ens puguin ajudar en l'avaluació de l'accessibilitat i s'anomenaran en els punts que ens puguin ajudar cadascuna d'aquestes.

Inequality and the stereotyping of young people

Recent research published by the Equality Authority highlights the ways in which a selection of teenagers believe they are negatively perceived and treated by adults across Irish society. The report is based on focus group discussions with 90 teenagers during May and June 2005 and includes the views of young asylum seekers, travellers, people with disabilities and lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth. Contact with the young people was facilitated through the National Youth Council of Ireland (NYCI). The report also includes findings from a case study of stereotyping of young people in the Irish media.This resource was contributed by The National Documentation Centre on Drug Use.

Journeyman Programme Kitchen and Garden

A new community kitchen and community garden are nearing the end of development. The area around the kitchen is designated for the community garden and is being developed this year. Running in conjunction with a school leavers programme, the garden will be an inclusive area for young people with disabilities. The community kitchen is expected to be used by the refugee centre and also local schools. Moville Community Garden

Promoting health both physical and mental in the community is part of the ethos of Moville FRC and the Community Garden is an important part of our programme. It encourages people to grow their own food and cook and eat healthily. An important aspect of the Community Garden is to promote neighbourliness, combat isolation and to give people the opportunity to work together to improve their community. Moville is a small town in North Donegal. The garden is situated in the middle of the community between three housing estates.It has 30 raised beds and a large shed. We are hoping to develop an adjoining site for potatoes and fruit trees. We run gardening classes during Spring/Summer each year. Participants in the Community Garden are drawn from all sections of the community, families, young and old, unemployed, people with disabilities. Report of the Action Group on Access to Third Level Education

In line with a commitment under the Programme for Prosperity and Fairness the Minister for Education and Science, Dr Michael Woods, established the Action Group on Access to Third Level Education, in September 2000, to advise the Minister on the development of a co-ordinated framework to promote access by mature and disadvantaged students and students with disabilities to third level education.

Diseño centrado en el usuario del interfaztáctil de un Videoclub

Disseny d'un entorn tàctil per a un videoclub, que sigui totalment competitiu amb els sistemes actuals i amb les necessitats de la gent, en concret a persones amb alguna minusvalidesa. A més aquest disseny permetrà adaptar-se a les noves tecnologies que ens ofereix Internet com pot ser la compra / lloguer en línia però en lloc d'utilitzar l'entorn tàctil s'utilitzés el ratolí.

La Relació entre el món laboral i el món de l'educació en persones amb discapacitat

La fundació Síndrome de Down de Girona i Comarques Astrid – 21 és una fundació privada benèfica de tipus assistencial. La finalitat dels seus programes és la protecció de les persones amb síndrome de Down al llarg de la seva vida, però també està oberta a altres discapacitats intel•lectuals. Aquest treball se centra en el programa “formació d’adults” que ofereix una formació a totes aquelles persones amb discapacitat que ja estan inserides en el món laboral. L’estudi que he dut a terme sorgeix d’una problemàtica latent en aquest programa. Els grups, en un principi, estaven formats per persones amb un nivell cognitiu més o menys semblant. Tot i això, degut a la incorporació de nous alumnes, la coordinació amb l’horari laboral i amb activitats de lleure, entre d’altres factors, ha provocat l’heterogeneïtat d’aquests. Per aquest motiu, a partir del paradigma d’investigació – acció, he creat uns instruments de mesura de les capacitats cognitives dels alumnes relacionades amb els objectius treballats al programa per tal de reelaborar els grups ja existents i, al mateix temps, tenir una eina per a futures incorporacions del programa “formació d’adults” de la Fundació Astrid 21

La Dona amb discapacitat: una mirada més enllà dels estereotips socials: revisió dels factors implicats i proposta d'intervenció en adolescents: Projecte Capacitats

Aquest treball pretén analitzar la discapcitat des d’una nova visió, des de la prespectiva de gènere. Intenta explicar la situació actual i les necessitats reals que tenen les dones amb discapacitat. A través d’una base teòrica on es fa un anàlisi de la discriminació a la dona i a la discapacitat, s’introdueix el concepte de dona i discapacitat i seguidament, es treballa la interecció de la dona amb discapacitat en àmbits com la maternitat, el sexe, etc. Finalment, es presenta un projecte d’intervenció disenyat i dut a terme, amb l’intenció de trancar estereotips relacionats amb la dona amb discapacitat

Vocational rehabilitation: a multidisciplinary intervention

Vocational rehabilitation is by definition a multidisciplinary intervention in a process linked to the facilitation of return to work or to the prevention of loss of the work. Clinical staff in contact with a person who has lost his job (general practitioner, specialized physician) must promote vocational rehabilitation. Medical rehabilitation for those with disabilities, whether new or old, has to be followed without delay by vocational rehabilitation. It is even better if these two intertwined processes are overlapping. They involve many professionals including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, vocational trainers, job counsellors, teachers, case-managers, job placement agencies. Vocational rehabilitation has a financial cost, borne by many state organizations (security, social system, social affairs) as well as by employers and private insurances, which are in case of accident, concerned by this process. However, the evidence suggests that this is recouped 2- to 10-fold as suggested by the British Society of Rehabilitation Medicine

L'Escolarització compartida a la comarca del Baix Empordà

L’escola els Àngels és el centre públic a nivell comarcal que atén a 57 alumnes amb necessitats educatives especials dels quals 15 realitzen una escolarització compartida a escoles ordinàries de les seves poblacions. Aquesta modalitat d’escolarització contempla la possibilitat que un alumne amb discapacitat pugui realitzar la seva jornada escolar a un centre ordinari i al centre d’educació especial a la vegada.
