Em poços perfurados para captação de água subterrânea, na área urbana de Ribeirão Preto, foram encontrados arenitos grossos a conglomeráticos, subfeldspáticos, formando extensa camada com espessura média em torno de 30 metros. Estes arenitos têm sido considerados, em trabalhos mais recentes, como tendo sido depositados em leques aluviais, ao final da sedimentação da Formação Pirambóia, em diferentes áreas da região central e leste do Estado de £o Paulo. Na área estudada, estes arenitos conglomeráticos, inseridos na porção extremo-superior da Formação Pirambóia, representam importante marco litoestratigráfico, pois assinalam o contato com a Formação Botucatu. Seu reconhecimento foi feito por meio de perfilagens geofísicas e da descrição de perfis geológicos de poços perfurados no município de Ribeirão Preto, uma vez que esta litofácies conglomerática não aflora na área. The £o Paulo State has as one of its main rivers the Tietê, which is an extremely important source because of its biodiversity, use in navigation and mainly as direct supplier of water for thousands of people in the region. Currently, the biodiversity of marine and freshwater ecosystems has been threatened, primarily by environmental problems resulting from the degradation of ecosystems, an example is the stretch of the Middle Tietê River, where the Barra Bonita dam (SP) focused virtually the whole load organic effluents from the metropolitan region of £o Paulo, leading to eutrophication with the loss of water quality. This basin is located in the Peixe’s River, a tributary of the Barra Bonita whose sources are on the slopes of the Cuesta de Botucatu, presenting an altitudinal gradient in a good state of conservation and water quality. From another perspective, the studies related to parasites and other pathogens of aquatic organisms have considerably increased the relevance, especially those hosts with potential for growing and marketing, given the significant increase these activities in Brazil and worldwide. Among the agents responsible for diseases in fish are the myxosporean, which can cause major economic damage, with high mortality ratios. Based on the above, this study evaluated the biodiversity of myxosporean parasites of two species of fish Acestrorhynchus lacustris and Steindachnerina insculpta. During the period January to November 2012, 40 specimens of Acestrorhynchus lacustris and 33 specimens of Steindachnerina insculpta were collected from the Peoxe’s river at four different points. The necropsies were performed and all organs were analyzed looking for myxosporean. Only the species Steindachnerina insculpta had their gills parasitized by two species of the genus Henneguya

The present study was concerned with checking the water quality, the recovery of the riparian vegetation and vegetation around the springhead of stream Bandeirantes, such as the inadequate disposal of waste along this stream, which is located in Rio Claro, SP, in the period from March to July of 2010. Aiming to propose mitigation measures to reverse the degradation processes and develop activities to help a better awareness of the population directly related to this water resource. The water quality was analyzed by performing monthly sampling in three different points along the stream. The first point of sampling is in the spring of the stream, the second at the region called estradão and the third near its mouth, when it flows into the Ribeirão Claro, a tributary of the right bank of the Corumbataí river. It was calculated from the Water Quality Index (WQI) developed by Cetesb. The results were compared with current law. The riparian vegetation, which is responsible for the protection of rivers and streams, was observed and examined during the field work. The results indicated the stream as class 2 and the WQI has been classified, in the most of the analysis, such as a water of good quality. However, some parameters showed a worrying situation and highlighted the current situation, with waste deposits, furniture and animal waste into the pit of the stream studied

The slugde from decanters in Water Treatment Plants (WTP) has different composition varying, according to the region, coagulant type and dosages, the plant layout. In this work, the physical characterization of the sludge generated from decenties (ETAII the municipality of Rio Claro, Brazil), the manufacture of bodies of evidence-sludge mixture of clay (with humidity of 8% and concentrations of sludge, 5, 15 and 30%) the testing technology after burning the mixture to a temperature of 950 ° C were investigated. The main aim assess the possibility of its use as raw material in the ceramic red production. For comparison of the obtained results it was used values of the testing technology of bodies of evidence only with clay, prepared under the same conditions. In general, the addition of sludge from ETA made worse the properties of the ceramic body, however, the values obtained from the tests on the concentration of 5% of sludge, still remain within the acceptable limits for the production of red pottery pieces.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi caracterizar a população de Bryconamericus turiuba do rio Passa Cinco com relação à estrutura em comprimento, proporção sexual, dinâmica alimentar, aspectos reprodutivos e condição corporal. O local estudado é um dos principais rios da sub-bacia do rio Corumbataí. Foram amostradas três pontos na região do alto curso contemplando trechos de ordem 2, 3 e 4. As amostragens foram realizadas ao longo de um ano e os apetrechos de pesca utilizados foram: peneira,, aparelho de pesca elétrica e covos. Foram capturados 191 indivíduos, sendo a maior quantidade no ponto 2 e na estação de cheia. A estrutura em comprimento da espécie revelou que os indivíduos não ultrapassaram 8 cm de comprimento padrão e que machos e fêmeas apresentaram comprimentos diferentes, sendo as fêmeas maiores que os machos. A proporção sexual não diferiu do esperado. Houve diferença entre os graus de gordura acumulada na cavidade visceral e graus de repleção estomacal dos peixes entre os pontos e épocas, sendo que na seca todos os indivíduos capturados apresentavam-se sem gordura. Foram analisados 49 estômagos. Onze diferentes itens alimentares foram encontrados nos conteúdos estomacais, sendo que inseto terrestre adulto apresentou-se como preferencial em alto grau. As dietas não apresentaram diferença entre os pontos de coleta nem entre as épocas. A maioria dos indivíduos com gônadas maduras foi capturada na estação seca, indicando que a reprodução ocorre neste período e estende-se por vários meses. Foram analisados 42 pares de ovários maduros. A fecundidade obtida foi 576 ovócitos, com diâmetro variando de 147 Vm a 1.176 Vm. Swamp forests, are laid down in the lowlands, with almost permanent presence of water on the soil surface and generally occupy portions fairly flat. In 2003 a phytosociological survey was conducted of the tree and shrub component of a swamp forest established on a steep slope in Rio Claro - SP, through the use of 45 permanent plots of 10 mx 10 m (0.45 ha) divided into three blocks: 1, 2 and 3. The present study aimed to review these plots and discuss the dynamics of vegetation in the swamp forest in question period of eight years. Altogether 1529 individuals were found alive, belonging to 29 families and 47 species. It can be observed that there was a decrease of one family (Flacourtiaceae) and two species (Xylosma tweediana, Inga marginata) in relation to 2003. In general there was a loss not only in number of individuals, but basal area and species diversity. The Block 1 was the only one to show a positive balance in terms of numbers of individuals (2.75%); in Block 2, there was little variation (1.72%) which is negative; whereas Block 3 had the largest decrease, 19.18%. The mortality rate (2.74% / year) for the community remained higher than the recruitment (1.81% / year). There was a decrease (3.19%) of total basal area of the sample relative to 2003, with the highest relative dominance by Calophyllum brasiliense. The decline in diversity of species could be evidenced by the Shannon index, which was 2.0 nats.individual-1 and evenness of 0.52. The most important species (IVI) were Euterpe edulis, Calophyllum brasiliense and Magnolia ovata, together accounting for 59% of IVI community. High mortality and low recruitment rates indicate disturbances in the community, some factors such as proximity to roads, the different soil types associated with a high rate of water saturation and the declivity are crucial to the balance within the community
