We report the results of a multimessenger search for coincident signals from the LIGO and Virgo gravitational-wave observatories and the partially completed IceCube high-energy neutrino detector, including periods of joint operation between 2007-2010. These include parts of the 2005-2007 run and the 2009-2010 run for LIGO-Virgo, and IceCube's observation periods with 22, 59 and 79 strings. We find no significant coincident events, and use the search results to derive upper limits on the rate of joint sources for a range of source emission parameters. For the optimistic assumption of gravitational-wave emission energy of 10(-2) M(circle dot)c(2) at similar to 150 Hz with similar to 60 ms duration, and high-energy neutrino emission of 1051 erg comparable to the isotropic gamma-ray energy of gamma-ray bursts, we limit the source rate below 1.6 x 10(-2) Mpc(-3) yr(-1). We also examine how combining information from gravitational waves and neutrinos will aid discovery in the advanced gravitational-wave detector era.

O presente trabalho final de graduação destina-se a elaboração de um projeto de um Centro Cultural e de Lazer na cidade de Mirassol, interior do estado de São Paulo, localizado na área ao redor da edificação da Estação Ferroviária. Foi feita a restauração do edifício da Estação Ferroviária para a instalação do setor administrativo do Centro Cultural e de Lazer de Mirassol (CCLM) em parte da edificação, e na outra parte, a transferência do Acessa São Paulo (programa destinado ao acesso de internet gratuita). Uma nova edificação, chamada de Café Cultural, foi projetada para abrigar salas de dança e artes marciais, vestiários, camarim, auditório, salas multifuncionais e a Biblioteca Municipal. Ao lado da Estação Ferroviária foi proposto um estacionamento para atender a demanda dos usuários do CCLM, e ao redor dessas edificações foi feita uma praça abrigando equipamentos de ginástica para terceira idade (ATI – Academia para Terceira Idade) e espaço lúdico, além de quadras poliesportivas, pista de skate, ciclofaixa, faixa para caminhada/cooper, e um espaço com locomotiva e vagões, destinado ao lazer, e uma sorveteria, uma floricultura e um espaço para leitura nos vagões

A cidade de Presidente Prudente conta com um pequeno mercado público de difícil acesso e poucos usuários, em um espaço que surgiu como um local provisório. Após 20 anos o edifício se encontra no mesmo lugar para a insatisfação dos comerciantes e usuários. O trabalho propõe a criação de um novo mercado público próximo ao Centro Cultural Matarazzo e IBC, criando um eixo cultural para a cidade, na região da linha férrea. O novo edifício integra com o antigo silo das Indústrias Anderson Clayton, cria praças com parque infantil, academia da terceira idade, teatro arena, ponto de ônibus, mesas e bancos. O projeto se fundamenta em metodologias visando criar espaços públicos bem sucedidos, ressaltados pelos benefícios dos mercados públicos na atualidade. The increase in the oil price and the current trend of using renewable raw materials for the production of chemicals renew the interest in the production of biobutanol that, produced by fermentation of agricultural raw materials, can be used as a component of gasoline and diesel. With the commercialization of new fuels, environmental damages due to spills can occur. Among other techniques, the clean-up of these contaminated areas can be achieved with bioremediation, a technique based on the action of microorganisms, which has the advantage of turning hazardous contaminants into non toxic substances such as CO2, water and biomass. Thus, bearing in mind the use of biobutanol in the near future as a gasoline extender and due to the lack of knowledge of the effects of butanol on the biodegradation of gasoline, this work aimed to assess the aerobic biodegradation of butanol/gasoline blends and butanol/diesel (20% v/v), being the latter compared to the ethanol/gasoline blend and biodiesel/diesel (20% v/v), respectively. Two experimental techniques were employed, namely the respirometric method and the redox indicator 2,6-dichlorophenol indophenol (DCPIP) test. In the former, experiments simulating the contamination of natural environments were carried out in biometer flasks, used to measure the microbial CO2 production. The DCPIP test assessed the capability of four inocula to biodegrade the fuel blends. In this paper we study the sliding mode of piecewise bounded quadratic systems in the plane given by a non-smooth vector field Z=(X,Y). Analyzing the singular, crossing and sliding sets, we get the conditions which ensure that any solution, including the sliding one, is bounded.

We performed in this study an analysis of Curriculum Astronomy contents the public schools of São Paulo from the available educational materials to teachers and students by the state board of education. We analyzed the conditions that teachers carry out the activities suggested to the teaching-learning situations, considering factors such as time available for classes, available material and the general technical condition to perform the activities suggested by the material. Thereafter, we conducted a search with teachers from public of São Paulo, than three cities in the Vale do Paraíba, in order to trace a general framework of the perception of these teachers about the introduction of Astronomy in Physical during the implementation of the new curriculum

Eucalyptus plantations have seldom responded to N fertilization in tropical and subtropical regions of Brazil. This implies that rates of N mineralization have been adequate to supply tree needs. However, subsequent crop rotations with low N fertilization may result in declining concentrations of organic and potentially mineralizable N (N-0), and consequent loss of wood productivity. This study investigated (a) in situ N mineralization and N-0 in soils of eucalypt plantations in Sao Paulo state, Brazil; (b) tree growth responses to N fertilizer applied 6-18 months after planting; and (c) the relationships between N-0,N- other soil attributes and tree growth. We established eleven N fertilizer trials (maximum 240 kg ha(-1) of N) in E. grandis and E. grandis x urophylla plantations. The soil types at most sites were Oxisols and Quartzipsamments, with a range of organic matter (18 to 55 g kg(-1)) and clay contents (8% to 67%) in the 0-20 cm layer. Concentrations of N-0 were measured using anaerobic incubation on soil samples collected every three months (different seasons). The samples collected in spring and summer had N-0 140-400 kg ha(-1) (10%-19% total soil N), which were best correlated with soil texture and organic matter content. Rates of in situ net N mineralization (0-20 cm) ranged from 100 to 200 kg ha(-1) year(-1) and were not correlated with clay, total N, or N-0. These high N mineralization rates resulted in a low response to N fertilizer application during the early ages of stand growth, which were highest on sandy soils. At the end of the crop rotation, the response to N fertilizer was negligible and non-significant at all sites.
