There can be several indicators of violence in society. However, in no other health unit such violence acquires visibility as in emergency. This study aimed to examine whether there is divergence between the history of medical consultation and diagnosis of physical aggressions in the emergency unit. A cross-sectional study was conducted in an emergency unit in the city of Araçatuba, state of São Paulo, Brazil, based on medical records, considering data on patients, lesions, history, diagnosis and treatment. Out of 133,537 visits, only 153 were recorded as physical aggressions, and 161 informed violence in the history of the consultation; 59.6% were male, 60.6% were between 20 and 44 years old. Excoriations, pain and injury predominated. There were no associations between state violence in the diagnosis and the characteristics of patients and visits (schedule, routing, gender, age). The conclusion is that in most cases violence reported in the history of the consultation was not mentioned in the diagnosis of injuries. The characteristics of care and patients were not related to the fact that professionals diagnosed the case as violence.

Health care waste (HCW) is the type of waste that results from activities performed in health care services during care provision to humans or animals. Presently, according to RDC 306/04, issued in 2004 by Anvisa, and Resolution no. 358/05, by CONAMA, waste groups have the following classification: Group A (biological waste), Group B (chemical waste), Group C (waste containing radionucleotides), Group D (common waste) and Group E (piercing and cutting waste). In Brazil, 149 tons of wastes are collected every day, and HCW corresponds to approximately 1% to 3 % of that total. An efficient way to adequately manage HCW is through the Health Care Waste Management Plan (HCWMP), and it is possible to reduce the risk posed by certain materials in addition to ensuring disposal in an ecologically correct and economical fashion. According to the Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO), the management process enables health care establishments to adequately manage waste. Hence, there is greater control and reduction in the health risks caused by infectious or special waste, in addition to facilitated recycling, treatment, storage, transport and final disposal of solid hospital waste in an environmentally safe fashion. To evaluate the management of HCW of Groups A and D from the Intensive Care Unit of the University Emergency Hospital - FMB - UNESP in the city of Botucatu according to the guidelines presently in force. The waste flow was followed up, and during four random days in the month of September 2011, waste was quantified by estimating daily and monthly values, according to its classification. : In 2011, the University hospital has produced an average of 57,676.8 kg/month of biological and common waste. By adding Groups A and D, during the four days, approximately 209.8 Kg of waste (202.2 Kg of Group A and 7.6 Kg of Group D) were produced in the establishment under study, which... The urbanization process established in Brazilian society since the middle of last century brought changes in the population habits and customs, which was responsible for the increased of chronic diseases incidence, such as arterial hypertension, for example. Although this is a common disease nowadays, it is still difficult to establish a significant control in subjects with this disease and its consequences. This is apparently due to lack of interest to the correct plan of care developed for the treatment of this disease. The nursing consultation identifies potential problematic situations and the patient needs, setting actions that are complementary to their benefit in order to promote health. The present work aims to observe how the nursing consultation is being used as strategy for patients with arterial hypertension, and to understand the difficulties faced during treatment of these patients. For this purpose, it was performed qualitative and quantitative studies with patients from Centro Saúde Escola (CSE), Unidade Auxiliar, Faculdade de Medicina de Botucatu, UNESP, located in Botucatu, employing as methodology the Discourse of the Collective Subject and descriptive statistical analysis of quantitative results. The vast majority of consultations were held by medical professionals and it was observed that the multidisciplinary work still needs to be recognized and valued by users. The lack of knowledge of some individuals in relation to the potential and importance of the nursing consultation occurs not only for the treatment of arterial hypertension, but for the treatment and monitoring of the individual as a whole. Therefore, it is still necessary to clarify the true essence and necessity of the nursing consultation, since so important tool should be used in its entirely. Moreover, the role of the multidisciplinary team should be more discussed

The use of heat in parallel with relative low temperatures and applied to several areas of the industry is essential for the main manufacturing processes, like drying, dehydrating, concentration, annealing, production of chemical reactions, and microbiological sterilization. Without neither the heat nor the coming of a great quantity of thermal heat, with high quality, there would not be the “modern society”, with its high standards of living plus its high consumption levels; from services to goods in general. Within an almost absolute way, the heat flows are obtained from vapor systems. Thus, in this work we are going into the operation of a vapor system, composed of two firetube boilers dimensioned to supply vapor for three processes. However, with the transfer of one of the processes to another plant, the system got over-dimensioned. But, taking advantage of this scenario, the two boilers were used to supply vapor to further processes, causing their intermittent usage. Moreover, the operational alternative adopted by the maintenance engineering of the plant for a creating a solution has been presented; both the positive points and negative ones were disclosed, likewise the possibility of improvement points

Dramatic changes occur in the lives of patients on peritoneal dialysis and his family life, changing lifestyle, professional and social activities. Considering the important role of family in treatment, is crucial for nurses to know how these families perceive their role as caregivers and their difficulties and needs, in the process of peritoneal dialysis. The approach chosen for the study was the phenomenological method, based on Merleau-Ponty, who proposes to understand the human experience, from the description of those who lived it. The study findings show that in the beginning of treatment, family members, feel impacted with the disease severity and eager to become responsible for maintenance treatment, fearing not match the expectations.Guided by staff, appear confident in taking care and deal with the difficulties and complications of treatment, supported by professionals. However, resent the great changes in their social activities and work, his life turns out to be quite limited, due to the dedication to a sick family member. Many feel overwhelmed because they are not supported by other family members. Some envision a future outlook for renal transplant, others seem skeptical, given the long waiting list, especially when advanced age of the sick family member. These results suggest the need for individualized attention to family caregivers, and to encourage the family to organize itself and develop a joint work. In this sense, the design of health care, taking care with the focus of the family, it seems highly appropriate in preparing the plan of family orientation, this is defined as a dynamic unity, which, working in harmony, can contribute positively in the treatment of health a sick member

The present study aimed at understanding humanized reception at a Family Health Unit in a city in São Paulo state according to users’ perspectives. It is a qualitative investigation with a Case Study as its methodological framework and the Theory of Complexity (TC) as its theoretical basis. Data were collected from March to July, 2011 by means of non-directive interviews and participant observation, and the Flowchart that analyzes the care provision model in health care services was used. The discourses were analyzed according to Bardin’s thematic approach, from which two themes emerged: humanized reception as an act that precedes medical consultation and humanized reception as a solution to demands stemming from medical action. The study provided visibility to the forms how humanized reception is understood, that is, the moment that precedes medical consultation, being configured as a pre-consultation instance when punctual actions are performed, such as measuring vital signs, and when users are sure that they will be seen by a doctor, in addition to the perception that humanized reception is not part of the process to solve their need, since such result is achieved by means of medication dispensation permeated by the polite treatment given by professionals. These results show how the fragmented, reductionist and linear approach to caregiving is still present in the words, thoughts and culture of health service users as well as in those of health care team members. TC seems to shed light on these issues, and it may result in important improvement in the understanding of interactional relationships between team members and users concerning the work process in the Family Health model as the main strategy in Primary Care

Fishing is a very important activity in terms of economic and social development throughout the Amazon region. Text reading this topic revealed the presence of a terminology not yet systematized and record little research and scientific publications on the terminology of this activity. This article aims at analyzing the key terms of fishing. At first, we present a brief history of this activity in Western Amazonia, particularly in Rondônia. The theoretical support was guided by Cabré (1999), with her Communicative Theory of Terminology, Aubert (1996), Barbosa (2002), Barros (2004), Biderman (2006), Babini (2006) and linguists as Baldinger (1966) and Pottier (1974) that reveal the details of linguistic analysis terminology. The creation of an electronic corpus, from texts of technical and documental discourse, theses and websites, composed the first stage of our work. Afterwards, collect the terms and fill the terminological records in our database. The terms were organized into a conceptual system with three notional fields: riverside community, type of fishing, gillnet fishing. Early results show that the set of terms collected is characterized by the strong presence of simple and complex terms, and less compound terms.

The substitution of diesel by biodiesel meets the current scenario to increase the consumption of alternative energy sources promoting sustainable development of a country. However, the production of biodiesel concurrently generates the formation of glycerine in the process is a by-product. The main application of glycerine is in the food industry, cosmetics, soaps, pharmaceuticals, among others, but these segments are not capable of absorbing the generated volume of glycerine, whereas the total volume of the biodiesel produced about 10% correspond to glycerine. Glycerine obtained from the transesterification reaction (necessary for production of biodiesel) triglycerides and alcohol contains certain impurities such as water, salts, esters, alcohol, and residual oil, which decrease the value. Thus, the purification process or the direct use of glycerine become essential to make it competitive biodiesel production process. This work aims to evaluate the different processes of purification and the use of glycerine obtained as by-product in the production of biodiesel. The research was theoretical, based on technical articles and theses published on this subject, and from these databases was established a summary of the most important processes

Introduction: health professionals, in many cases, have defensive and exclusionary practices, patterns of prejudice and discrimination in response to HIVpositive patients. Objective: to verify the perception of patients seropositives from a reference center for STD/HIV/aids in relation to health care. Methods: there were interviews with questions related to discriminatory attitudes suffered, access and health care. Results: 130 individuals participated in the survey, from which 30 (23.1%) reported events of discrimination suffered outside the center of reference, predominantly from surgeon-dentists and 112 (86.2%) believed to have the same access and health care as other citizens. 62 (47.7%) treated with the dental center of reference, of which 56 (90.3%) felt good being treated in a dental unit only for HIV positive and six (9.7%) were indifferent, believed to be more exposed, or have a bias to attend dental seropositive individuals. Conclusion: it is concluded that many patients have already been discriminated against outside the reference center. However, most of them have a positive feeling towards the treatment received at a specifi c place for treating HIV-positive patients, due to the feeling of being welcome at that place due to the humanization and access to health care.
