This essay to discusses the relationship between psychoanalysis and aesthetic thinking, through the prism of Lacan’s theory on visuality, as perceived by the critic and art historian Hal Foster. In my opinion, this intersection would allow us to enlighten new ways of reading the work of art towards a paradigm of a non-applied psychoanalysis. Therefore, this paper intends to tackle aspects which concern the Lacanian concept of real in order to question some problems that concern the contemporary work of art.

Two-dimensional models in quantum field theory: Reduction to the free-particle case

We demonstrate that the generating functionals for two-dimensional models with two real scalar fields, one interacting with an external electromagnetic field and the other with coupling terms but without external fields, can be reduced to the case of the free-particle propagator when quasistatic solutions for this theory are used. © 1991 The American Physical Society.

A formação continuada de professores: entre o real e o 'ideal'

The objective this study was to highlight the prospects of a group of teachers of Physical Education, highlighting the factors identified as critical to a continuing education "ideal" for a teacher professional development and for the practice pedagogical. Qualitative research, inspired by the method of approaching the history of the present time, in order to register as memory the time when these teachers live. The data source used was oral sources collected by the technique of semistructured interviews and official documents. The data generated were discussed with the production of literature and the highlights are three axes in the reports of teachers: the relationship between theory and practice, the importance of listening to students and the continuity of training activities.

Firm Market Performance and Volatility in a National Real Estate Sector

We present empirical evidence using daily data for stock prices for 17 real estate companies traded in the Sao Paulo, Brazil stock exchange. from August 26, 2006 to March 31, 2010. We use the U.S. house price bubble, financial crisis and risk measures to instrument for momentums and reversals in the domestic real estate sector. We find evidence of conditional premium persistence and conditional volatility persistence in the market. We find that the conditional risk-return relationship in the sector is consistent with the prospect theory of risk attitudes in this period. Certain companies seem to be operating on a perceived potential industry return above the target, while most others are below the target, and the whole sector is below target on average. Adsorption of NO on the Rh-13, Pd-13, Ir-13, and Pt-13 Clusters: A Density Functional Theory Investigation

The adsorption of NO on transition-metal (TM) surfaces has been widely studied by experimental and theoretical techniques; however, our atomistic understanding of the interaction of nitrogen monoxide (NO) with small TM clusters is far from satisfactory, which compromises a deep understanding of real catalyst devices. In this study, we report a density functional theory study of the adsorption properties of NO on the TM13 (TM = Rh, Pd, Ir, Pt) clusters employing the projected augmented wave method. We found that the interaction of NO with TM13 is much more complex than that for NO/TM(111). In particular, for low symmetry TM13 clusters, there is a strong rearrangement of the electronic charge density upon NO adsorption and, as a consequence, the adsorption energy shows a very complex dependence even for adsorption sites with the same local effective coordination. We found a strong enhancement of the binding energy of NO to the TM13 clusters compared with the TM(111) surfaces, as the antibonding NO states are not occupied for NO/TM13, and the general relationship based on the d-band model between adsorption energy and the center of gravity of the occupied d-states does not hold for the studied TM13 clusters, in particular, for clusters with low symmetry. In contrast with the adsorption energy trends, the geometric NO/TM13 parameters and the vibrational N-O frequencies for different coordination sites follow the same trend as for the respective TM(111) surfaces, while the changes in the frequencies between different surfaces and TM13 clusters reflect the strong NO-TM13 interaction.
