This Summer 2015 newsletter from the South Carolina State Library, volume 42, issue 1, features news and updates about the Talking Book Services, a federally-funded program to meet the reading needs of South Carolina residents who are physically unable to read or use standard printed materials.

South Carolina State Plan on Aging 2017-2021

The Lieutenant Governor’s Office on Aging hereby submits the Federal Fiscal Year 2017 – 2021 State Plan on Aging for the State of South Carolina to the Assistant Secretary on Aging of the United States Department of Health and Human Services. The plan is effective for the period of October 1, 2016 through September 30, 2020. This document lays out a long-term strategic blueprint that focuses on how the state will modernize its service delivery system, while expanding the service options available for older South Carolinians, adults with disabilities, and their families. It also sets goals for consumer choice, and person centered and self-directed services. It addresses marketing, outreach, and advocacy issues, as well as the development of initiatives geared toward promoting evidence-based, consumer-directed, and community-based long-term services and supports.

Contemporary English drama : a program of study for the South Carolina Federation of Women's Clubs

This program-bulletin has been prepared by Dr. G. A. Wauchope, head of the English Department of the University: of South Carolina, for the use of Women's Literary Clubs and for the guidance of any who would acquaint themselves with the recent dramatic movement in Great Britain. GROUND WATER RECHARGE POTENTIAL OF FRESH WATER WETLANDS ON HILTON HEAD ISLAND. SOUTH CAROLINA

Fresh water wetlands on Hilton Head Island have experienced significant degradation over the past few decades. Fifty per cent of the original fresh water wetlands on the island have been either completely destroyed or significantly altered. This fact, plus the declining water levels experienced periodically, have caused much concern over the importance of the wetlands. A major question concerned the role of the wetlands in the recharge of the local ground water aquifer. The present study was undertaken in order to evaluate the potential of the wetlands for water table recharge.

An Overview of Racial Disproportionality in Juvenile Arrests and Offenses in South Carolina

This report attempts to examine a very narrow, yet vital, segment of the criminal justice process, racial disproportionality among juvenile arrest and offense rates. The purpose of this report was to demonstrate the utility of South Carolina's incident based crime data, the South Carolina Incident Based Reporting System, as an analytical tool to address matters of policy relevance.
