La idea de este Proyecto Fin de Máster es la creación de una nueva línea de negocio compuesta por servicios basados en software libre para la empresa Efedos Consulting.

Rhodometra sacraria (Linnaeus), a cosmopolitan sterrhine confirmed from Chile (Lepidoptera, Geometridae). Rhodometra sacraria (Linnaeus, 1767), corologically a cosmopolitan species, is documented from Chile thanks to the analysis of specimens from four different localities in that country, at the same time, increasing the number of species known from the subfamily Sterrhinae in Chile, as well as being only the second (confirmed) documentation of this species from the Neotropics.

The genome sequencing of an albino Western lowland gorilla reveals inbreeding in the wild

BACKGROUND: The only known albino gorilla, named Snowflake, was a male wild born individual from Equatorial Guinea who lived at the Barcelona Zoo for almost 40 years. He was diagnosed with non-syndromic oculocutaneous albinism, i.e. white hair, light eyes, pink skin, photophobia and reduced visual acuity. Despite previous efforts to explain the genetic cause, this is still unknown. Here, we study the genetic cause of his albinism and making use of whole genome sequencing data we find a higher inbreeding coefficient compared to other gorillas.RESULTS: We successfully identified the causal genetic variant for Snowflake's albinism, a non-synonymous single nucleotide variant located in a transmembrane region of SLC45A2. This transporter is known to be involved in oculocutaneous albinism type 4 (OCA4) in humans. We provide experimental evidence that shows that this amino acid replacement alters the membrane spanning capability of this transmembrane region. Finally, we provide a comprehensive study of genome-wide patterns of autozygogosity revealing that Snowflake's parents were related, being this the first report of inbreeding in a wild born Western lowland gorilla.CONCLUSIONS: In this study we demonstrate how the use of whole genome sequencing can be extended to link genotype and phenotype in non-model organisms and it can be a powerful tool in conservation genetics (e.g., inbreeding and genetic diversity) with the expected decrease in sequencing cost.

Estándares para e-learning adaptativo y accesible

Currently there are many standards that deal with accessibility issues regarding users’ models, learning scenarios, interaction preferences, devices capabilities, metadata for specifying the delivery of any resource to meet users’ needs, and software accessibility and usability. It is difficult to understand the existing relationships between these standards, as each one represents a different viewpoint and thus has its own sets of goals and scope. This paper gives an overview on existing standards addressing accessibility, usability and adaptation issues in e-learning, and discusses their application to cope with the objectives of the A2UN@ project, which focuses on attending the accessibility and adaptation needs for ALL in Higher Education

GSD. Un caso de estudio con aprendizaje combinado

El Graduado Superior en Diseño (GSD) de la Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, está basado en un modelo de aprendizaje combinado, en el cual las nuevas tecnologías representan una oportunidad para la enseñanza y ofrecen al usuario independencia para aprender rápidamente y para poder acceder a más recursos. Este tipo de aprendizaje no está fundamentado en un único modelo de aprendizaje o basado en una teoría general, sino en la aplicación de un pensamiento ecléctico y práctico, el cual lo hace una opción adecuada para la enseñañnza del diseño. El propósito de este artículo es explicar la investigación y la práctica realizada a través de los 5 años en los cuales se han integrado las ventajas de la enseñañnza tradicional y el uso de las nuevas tecnologías. Finalmente el artículo concluye describiendo el futuro del curso.

Student experiences in a course blended learning

Fascination is a project for design students, developed jointly by the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC) and the University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), which works with two groups of students, one group of participants in Spain and another group in Thailand where, hands-on activities, a range of technologies are used to prepare students for the lessons, through learning activities and content. This research paper presents the test of both a general model and a tool for measuring the participants’ experiences in a course that uses a blended learning methodology, with the aim of collecting empirical evidence to justify the effort of applying this methodology, based on the participants’ satisfaction. The procedure used in the conceptualization of the survey, the generation of topics, the collection of data, and the validation of the scale of various items are described here. The information, provided by the 26 people surveyed about the course and the virtual environment that was used, was analyzed to measure their perceptions and explore possible relations. Finally the conclusions of the research and the future work are presented.

Mobile Communication 2012 : Experiències i recerques sobre comunicació mòbil

La comunicació mòbil és un dels temes de més actualitat en diferents fòrums, des de diferents perspectives. Espanya juga un paper important per les dinàmiques i l’evolució del seu mercat. En aquest sentit, el nostre país ofereix un interès específic per l'amplitud del seu parc de dispositius 3G (el segon d'Europa, després d'Itàlia) i per la intensitat del desenvolupament de xarxes socials mòbils, a més de per la creixent implicació d'empreses en la producció i distribució de continguts mòbils. Com va passar amb Internet, es tracta d’un procés d'innovació pel qual els formats de contingut, les pràctiques de consum i els models de negoci característics de la televisió i la xarxa, per exemple, s'adapten, primer, al nou mitjà, per a després desenvolupar formes i models específics que aprofiten les potencialitats de personalització, geolocalització i conectivitat ubiqua.

Usando um Jogo Digital na Sala de Aula do Ensino Fundamental: Visão dos Professores

A digital game was created as a resource for cognitive learning and afterwards it was used in primary schools in order to survey its active users. The methods used to recollect data were observation, in-depth interviews and focus groups. The main target of this study is to collect points of view of different primary school teachers. Conclusions show us how the group of study members perceive the use of digital games in the classroom.

Web 2.0+ educación: colaboración y recursos abiertos

Con la llegada de la web 2.0, ha sido posible para todos los usuarios participar y colaborar en la construcción del conocimiento, además de servir al dominio público gracias al intercambio libre y legal de los contenidos y a su reutilización. Además los recursos educativos abiertos, son un concepto reciente en lo que respecta a la organización del mundo de intercambio de variedad de materiales y herramientas educacionales, e instituciones como la UNESCO están interesadas en el desarrollo de estos, para ser utilizados en una escala tan amplia y global como sea posible. Sin embargo los REA están teniendo algunas dificultades para alcanzar su eficacia, ya que hay algunas diferencias cruciales en la organización y en la interacción de estas redes abiertas. Este artículo intenta realizar un análisis del intercambio libre y legal de los contenidos y su reutilización utilizadas como apoyo para el aprendizaje en diferentes espacios en línea, aprovechando las posibilidades tecnológicas que permiten conformar nuevas estructuras de socialización-colaboración en línea.

Anàlisi quantitatiu de la paraula i de la imatge en els programes informatius de televisió. Estudi del cas de L’Informatiu de TVE a Catalunya (1983-2003)

Televisió Espanyola va començar la producció de programes a Catalunya amb la inauguració del estudis de Miramar el dia 14 de juliol de1959. El primer programa emès des d’aquest centre va ser realitzat als jardins de l’edifici i presentat per José Luis Barcelona. Era l’inici d’una història que ha superat ja el cinquantè aniversari i de la qual encara queden moltes coses per conèixer i per explicar. Tota la programació dels primers anys era en llengua castellana, fins la primera emissió de televisió en català, el 27 d'octubre de 1964. Va ser el punt de partida de molts anys de programes en català. Un dels valors que aporta TVE a Catalunya és la contribució als informatius d’àmbit estatal. És en aquesta especialitat dels programes d’informació que tant Miramar com Sant Cugat tenen una llarga experiència. Un indicador per estudiar aquest camí llarg i no sempre fàcil de les emissions de TVE des de Catalunya i en llengua catalana pot ser l’anàlisi de l’evolució dels informatius al llarg del temps. Aspectes com l’hora d’emissió, la durada, el nombre de notícies, la forma de presentar-les, els recursos utilitzats i en definitiva tot allò relacionat amb l’estructura d’aquests programes. Ens proposem descobrir els canvis que han tingut aquests informatius en català en diferents èpoques. En la mesura que sigui possible, quantificar les variacions que s’hagin produït en diversos aspectes del seu contingut i característiques . En especial els relatius al text llegit i a la imatge. Aquest treball pretén ser una primera aproximació a l’estudi de les estructures dels programes informatius diaris, que certifiqui l’existència d’una línia d’investigació que es pugui seguir en el futur.

How market access shapes human capital investment in a peripheral country

Human capital endowment is one of the main factors influencing the level of development of a region. This paper analyses whether remoteness from economic activity has a negative effect on human capital accumulation and, consequently, on economic development. Making use of microdata this research proves that remoteness from economic activity has contributed to explain the divergences in the level of education observed across Spanish provinces over the last 50 years. The effect is significant even when controlling for the improvement of education supply. Nonetheless, the accessibility effect has been petering out since the 1960s due to the decreasing barriers to mobility.

Tiempos afroindigenas en la amazonia brasileña. Primera mitad del siglo XIX.

La Amazonia brasileña durante la primera mitad del siglo XIX estuvo marcada por una extraordinaria inestabilidad político-militar. Su adhesión tardía a la independencia de Brasil (1823), el debate sobre la esclavitud y la explosión de la Cabanagem fueron procesos que tuvieron como protagonistas no sólo a las elites políticas lusobrasileñas, sino también a diferentes grupos cimarrones e indígenas que actuaban desde amplios e intrincados espacios de frontera, atentos a las ideas revolucionarias que provenían del exterior y que jugaron un papel fundamental en la construcción de la especificidad del norte de Brasil.

Possible hot spots excited by the relativistic jets of Cygnus X-3

We present the results of a deep search for associated radio features in the vicinity of the microquasar Cygnus X-3. The motivation behind is to find out evidence for interaction between its relativistic jets and the surrounding interstellar medium, which could eventually allow us to perform calorimetry of the total energy released by this microquasar during its flaring lifetime. Remarkably, two radio sources with mJy emission level at centimeter wavelengths have been detected in excellent alignment with the position angle of the inner radio jets. We propose that these objects could be the hot spots where the relativitic outflow collides with the ambient gas in analogy with Fanaroff-Riley II radio galaxies. These candidate hot spots are within a few arc-minutes of Cygnus X-3 and, if physically related, the full linear extent of the jet would reach tens of parsecs. We discuss here the evidence currently available to support this hypothesis based on both archival data and our own observations.
