Casenote considers meaning and impact of ruling of High Court in Hanchett Stamford v HM A.G. The decision of Mr Justice Lewison in Hanchett-Stamford v HM Attorney General and Dr William Johnston Jordan1 provides us with a useful analysis of the legal principles relating to the thorny issues of: (i) how unincorporated associations hold property; (ii) the applicability of the law of charities to unincorporated associations and (iii) the property rights of a declining membership upon the dissolution of such associations.

Based on the emergent findings of a pilot study which examined the issues around introducing Peer Mentoring into an Engineering School, this paper, which is very much a 'work in progress', describes and discusses results from the first year of what will be a three year exploratory study. Focusing on three distinctive concepts integral to the student experience, Relationships, Variety and Synergy, the study follows an Action Research Design in that it aims to find a realistic and workable solution to issues of attrition within the Engineering School in which the Project and Study are set. Starting with the research question "Does Peer Mentoring improve engineering students' transition into university?"', the Pilot Project and Study will run for three years, each year building on the lessons of the previous year.

Introduction. Familial Atypical Multiple Mole-Melanoma Syndrome (FAMMM) is an autosomal dominant genodermatosis characterized by the presence of a high number of dysplastic nevi and family history of melanoma or pancreatic cancer. Melanomas in FAMMM patients tend to occur at a younger age, although they are clinically similar to sporadic melanomas in terms of overall survival. Case report. A 45 year-old woman with a family history of melanoma, a type II phototype and numerous (>100) nevi was admitted to our Department of Dermatology and Plastic Surgery. Over the past years, the patient underwent several surgical operations to remove pigmented lesions and two are dysplastic nevi. Since 1995, she underwent surgery to remove four melanomas. She is followed for skin examinations including dermoscopy. Conclusion. Identifying high-risk patients for melanoma represents a primary objective for the specialists that are involved in the management of this disease, especially in order to enact all the necessary surveillance and follow-up strategies.

Neste trabalho estudou-se a eficiência dos herbicidas Herbipec 500 FL (s.a. Clortolurão) e Dopler Super (s.a. ABSTRACT: The purpose of this work was to study the efficiency of the herbicides Herbipec 500 FL (a.i. chlorotoluron) and Dopler Super (a.i. diclofop-methyl + fenoxaprop-P-ethyl + mefenpyr-diethyl) to control grass weeds at post-emergence in no-till bread wheat and consequently to do the evaluation of potential grain yield combining reduced doses to the recommended ones by the manufacturers. The trials were carried out over two growing seasons (2006/2007 and 2007/2008) on the farm "Revilheira" and on a private farm "Louseiro", both in the district of Évora. Trials to study effects of three doses of a two herbicides, with three levels each, corresponding to nine treatments were executed. The experimental design was a randomized block with four replications each. The results showed a great efficiency and grain yield wheat with the mixture with 2 l ha-1 Herbipec 500 FL and 0,5 1 ha-1 Dopler Super to controlling Lolium spp. and Juncus bufonius L..

While there is growing use of online counselling, little is known about its interactional organisation and how it compares to telephone counselling. This is despite past research suggesting that both counsellors and clients report the impact of the different modalities on the presentation and management of the counselling interaction. This paper compares the interactional affordances of telephone and online web counselling in opening sequences on Kids Help Line, a 24-hour Australian counselling service for children and young people up to the age of 25. We examine two ways that counsellors show active listening through response tokens and formulations. The analysis describes how counsellors’ use of minimal response tokens facilitate the clients’ problem presentation and are used in the management of turn taking and sequence organisation. For example, counsellors use the response token Mm hm to show that they understand that the client’s unit of talk to is not yet complete, and to affirm or invite the client to continue speaking. Formulations in phone and web counselling are another way that counsellors display active listening to re-present stretches of the clients’ preceding talk. In phone and web counselling, however, the respective modalities can complicate matters of turn transition and sequence organisation. By examining actual phone and online counselling sessions, this paper offers empirical demonstrations of the interactional affordances of phone and online counselling, and shows how the institutional practice of active listening is accomplished across different counselling modalities

Using an in situ-generated calcium-based initiating species derived from pentaerythritol, the bulk synthesis of well-defined 4-arm star poly(L-lactide) oligomers has been studied in detail. The substitution of the traditional initiator, stannous octoate with calcium hydride allowed the synthesis of oligomers that had both low PDIs and a comparable number of polymeric arms (3.7 – 3.9) to oligomers of similar molecular weight. Investigations into the degree of control observed during the course of the polymerization found that the insolubility of pentaerythritol in molten L-lactide resulted in an uncontrolled polymerization only when the feed mole ratio of L-lactide to pentaerythritol was 13. At feed ratios of 40 and greater, a pseudo-living polymerization was observed. As part of this study, in situ FT-Raman spectroscopy was demonstrated to be a suitable method to monitor the kinetics of the ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of lactide. The advantages of using this technique rather than FT-IR-ATR and 1H NMR for monitoring L-lactide consumption during polymerization are discussed.

This article provides an overview of a research project investigating contemporary literary representations of Melbourne’s inner and outer suburban spaces. It will argue that the city represented by local writers is an often more complex way of envisioning the city than the one presented in public policy and cultural discourses. In this view, the writer’s vision of a city does not necessarily override or provide a “truer’ account but it is in the fictional city where the complexity of the everyday life of a city is most accurately portrayed. The article will also provide an overview of the theoretical framework for reading the fictional texts in this way, examining how Soja’s concept of Thirdspace (2006) provides a place to engage “critically with theoretical issues, while simultaneously being that space where the debate occurs” (Mole 2008: 3).

CDKN2A, the gene encoding the cell-cycle inhibitor p16CDKN2A, was first identified in 1994. Since then, somatic mutations have been observed in many cancers and germline alterations have been found in kindreds with familial atypical multiple mole/melanoma (FAMMM), also known as atypical mole syndrome. In this review we tabulate the known mutations in this gene and discuss specific aspects, particularly with respect to germline mutations and cancer predisposition.
