Compression of Weighted Graphs

We propose to compress weighted graphs (networks), motivated by the observation that large networks of social, biological, or other relations can be complex to handle and visualize. In the process also known as graph simplication, nodes and (unweighted) edges are grouped to supernodes and superedges, respectively, to obtain a smaller graph. We propose models and algorithms for weighted graphs. The interpretation (i.e. decompression) of a compressed, weighted graph is that a pair of original nodes is connected by an edge if their supernodes are connected by one, and that the weight of an edge is approximated to be the weight of the superedge. The compression problem now consists of choosing supernodes, superedges, and superedge weights so that the approximation error is minimized while the amount of compression is maximized. In this paper, we formulate this task as the 'simple weighted graph compression problem'. We then propose a much wider class of tasks under the name of 'generalized weighted graph compression problem'. The generalized task extends the optimization to preserve longer-range connectivities between nodes, not just individual edge weights. We study the properties of these problems and propose a range of algorithms to solve them, with dierent balances between complexity and quality of the result. We evaluate the problems and algorithms experimentally on real networks. The results indicate that weighted graphs can be compressed efficiently with relatively little compression error.

Research on Q-Switched Nd : YAG laser engraving

IN this paper, the engraving process with Q-Switched Nd:YAG laser is investigated. High power density is the pre- requisition to vapor materials, and high repetition rate makes the engraving process highly efficient. An acousto- optic Q-Switch is applied in the cavity of CW 200 W Nd:YAG laser to achieve the high peak power density and the high pulse repetition rate. Different shape craters are formed in a patterned structure on the material surface when the laser beam irradiates on it by controlling power density, pulse repetition rate, pulse quantity and pulse interval. In addition, assisting oxygen gas is used for not only improving combustion to deepen the craters but also removing the plasma that generated on the top of craters. Off-focus length classified as negative and positive has a substantial effect on crater diameters. According to the message of rotating angle positions from material to be engraved and the information of graph pixels from computer, a special graph is imparted to the material by integrating the Q- Switched Nd:YAG laser with the computer graph manipulation and the numerically controlled worktable. The crater diameter depends on laser beam divergence and laser focal length. The crater diameter changes from 50 micrometers to 300 micrometers , and the maximum of crater depth reaches one millimeter.

Emerging trends and experiences in Asia-Pacific aquaculture: 2003

This document provides an overview of topical issues in Asian aquaculture for 2003, including a review of its status, progress in research and development, major issues and experiences, together with suggestions on actions for addressing opportunities and constraints. The document has been prepared by NACA and FAO to facilitate discussions at the 15th NACA Governing Council meeting, hosted by the Government of Sri Lanka on 21st-25th April 2004. The final version will be widely circulated as the editors hope it will prove a useful document for all involved in aquaculture, and related fishery development in the Asia-Pacific region. Pending feedback on this 2003 document, further reviews may be considered by NACA and FAO as a way of bringing together regularly in one publication relevant and key issues facing development of aquaculture in the Asia-Pacific region. [ES]La edición de audio y video es una práctica muy frecuente actualmente en todas partes del mundo, tanto en ámbitos profesionales como domésticos. Tanto que para el año 2018, se prevé que el 80% del tráfico de internet serán descargas y subidas de videos. Para poder ofrecer edición de audio y video simple y potente a los usuarios, existen cantidades grandes de software de pago que pueden ser muy eficientes y pueden tener buenos resultados, pero puede que algunos usuarios no se puedan permitir tener acceso a ello por razones económicas o por no encontrarse en las plataformas de las que dispone el usuario, y de ahí nace el editor de videos Kdenlive, un editor de video de software libre desarrollado por una comunidad de usuarios y desarrolladores que juntos están haciendo que Kdenlive sea un programa al nivel de los editores de video comerciales. Aunque exista una gran comunidad de personas que se ayudan entre ellos, la documentación actual no está del todo enfocada a desarrolladores nuevos, sin experiencia previa. Éste trabajo tratará de añadir nuevas funcionalidades a Kdenlive, a petición de la comunidad de desarrolladores, así como crear una documentación que pueda ayudar a nuevos desarrolladores en poder concentrarse directamente en la tarea de programar, en vez de la búsqueda de información y formación previa sobre el programa.

The present bibliography collects references on lagoon and coastal environments in Côte d'Ivoire. It is mainly based on: - the draft bibliography prepared by Charles-Dominique and Durand in 1979, edited in the Archives Scientifiques du Centre de Recherches Océanographiques d'Abidjan (vol. 5 no. 2); - the synthesis on the marine environment, published in 1993 (LeLoeuff, Marchal and Amon-Kothias editors); - and the synthesis on the lagoon environment, published in 1994 (Durand, Dufour, Guiral and Zabi editors). In spite of a careful check of the available documents, it is more than possible that references are lacking or erroneous. That's why this bibliography is still a draft, and the author will be glad to receive complements and/or corrections from lectors. Mídia e Consumo: a afirmação do consumo de cursos MBA nas páginas do Boa Chance

O campo de estudos da Comunicação é conhecido pela sua interdisciplinaridade, o que permite analisar objetos relacionados a outras áreas do conhecimento por meio da perspectiva em que os diferentes tipos de mídia lhes apresentam. Utilizando palavras, imagens e sons os meios de comunicação colaboram para a produção dos significados de uso e apropriação de diferentes produtos e serviços disponíveis para o consumo. Por meio de um intercâmbio com o campo de estudos de consumo e tratando de um produto oriundo do campo da Educação, os cursos de MBA, este trabalho analisa as mensagens produzidas pelo Boa Chance, suplemento publicado pelo jornal O Globo. Para compor o referencial foram considerados teóricos do campo da Comunicação, Consumo, Educação e Representação Social. Além de oferecerem subsídios para refletir sobre o consumo desse tipo de produto, as idéias e conceitos apresentados também colaboram para compor as categorias elaboradas para a análise das matérias publicadas. Para aprofundar um pouco mais sobre os cursos de MBA foi traçado um histórico desse tipo de ensino, desde o seu surgimento nos Estados Unidos, passando pela sua ascensão a partir da década de 1940 até a sua chegada ao Brasil. A forma como os cursos adentraram a pauta dos cadernos de emprego, em especial, do Boa Chance, também é abordada. Entrevistas com repórteres e editores que trabalharam ou que ainda estão no caderno permitiram identificar o contexto em que as pautas relacionadas a esse tema se tornaram mais frequentes. A partir disso, foi possível compreender que o assunto começou a ganhar mais espaço na mesma medida que cresce a oferta de vagas pelas instituições, no começo dos anos 2000. Para entender de que maneira os meios de comunicação abordam para esse tipo de consumo e também quais são as representações que ele produz sobre os MBAs, foram analisadas 26 edições do caderno recolhidas entre 2009 e 2010.
