Résumé Les experts forensiques en documents peuvent être confrontés à des écritures réalisées en conditions non conventionnelles. Ces circonstances atypiques pourraient être à l'origine d'une plus grande variabilité de la forme de l'écriture, en particulier lorsque des positions à priori inhabituelles du corps et / ou du support sont impliquées. En effet, en dépit de son aspect stéréotypé /standardisé évident, résultat d'un apprentissage par un modèle, notre écriture est caractérisée par une variabilité intrinsèque de la forme, qui évolue au cours du temps et qui, dans sa dimension qualitative, confère à l'écriture son caractère individuel. En d'autres termes, nous n'écrivons jamais deux fois de la même façon. Cette variabilité intraindividuelle (ou intra-variabilité) observée en condition conventionnelle, c'est-à-dire assis devant un support horizontal, pourrait augmenter en conditions non conventionnelles, par exemple dans une position inconfortable. Cela pourrait rendre plus difficile l'identification d'écrits apposés dans une condition non conventionnelle ou inconnue. Ne pas connaître les circonstances d'apposition d'une mention manuscrite ou ne pas s'interroger sur ces dernières, pourrait conduire l'expert à faire des erreurs d'appréciation. Et le simple fait d'étudier une trace sur laquelle le corps peut exercer une influence fait de l'expertise en écriture une spécialité qui se distingue des autres disciplines forensiques. En cela, la trace écrite diffère des autres types de traces "inanimées" (physiques, chimiques, bigchimiques) considérées comme invariables (mais potentiellement sensibles à d'autres phénomènes tels que la température, la pression atmosphérique...). En effet, le mouvement d'écriture étant commandé et contrôlé par le cerveau, cela lui confère une certaine variabilité. Il est donc assez logique de penser que la connaissance des mécanismes neuroscientifiques à l'origine de ce mouvement facilitera la compréhension des phénomènes observés d'un point de vue forensique. Deux expériences ont été menées afin de comparer les performances de sujets écrivant dans différentes conditions (conventionnelle vs. non conventionnelles). Les résultats ont montré que cinq des sept conditions non conventionnelles n'avaient pas d'impact significatif sur la variabilité d'écriture. L'ensemble des résultats fournit aux experts forensiques des pistes leur permettant de mieux appréhender les écritures rédigées dans des conditions inhabituelles.

Pieces of Iowa’s Past, published by the Iowa State Capitol Tour Guides weekly during the legislative session, features historical facts about Iowa, the Capitol, and the early workings of state government. All historical publications are reproduced here with the actual spelling, punctuation, and grammar retained. January 23, 2013 THIS WEEK: Iowa’s Grasshopper Plague of 1873 BACKGROUND: Fifteen General Assembly The 15th General Assembly convened January 12 and adjourned March 19, 1874—a 67-day session. The Senate had six Democratic members, 34 Republican members, and 10 Independent members. The House of Representatives had six Democratic members, 50 Republican members, and 44 Independent members. There were a total of 150 legislators in Iowa. By 1874, the Capital had been relocated to Des Moines. The legislature had occupied the old Brick Capitol since 1858. Joseph Dysart was the Lieutenant Governor presiding in the Senate, and John Gear was Speaker of the House of Representatives. Iowa’s population at the 1870 federal census had grown to 1,194,020. Both House and Senate journals from the 15th Iowa General Assembly include several references to assisting the destitution brought on by the 1874 plague of grasshoppers in Northwestern Iowa. Senator Perkins, from the Special Committee appointed to inquire into the reports of destitution in the northwestern counties of Iowa, submitted the following report, in part: “We have examined such evidence as is attainable here, and made such inquiries of parties interested in affording temporary relief as were to be met, and are pieces satisfied in our own minds that the case is one of sufficient importance to command the attention of the State.”

The age at which school children begin instruction in the foreign language has been brought forward on two main grounds: (1) young children are better language learners than older children, and (2) bilingualism brings cognitive advantages to children. Both statements are critically analysed in this paper. First of all, recent research findings show that the advantage that younger learners show in a naturalistic language learning situation (or through school immersion) disappears in a formal language learning situation with very limited exposure to the target language. Secondly, the positive effects on cognitive development that have been revealed through research correspond to situations of balanced bilingualism, that is, situations in which children have a high command of the two languages. In contrast, children¿s command of the foreign language in our context is very limited and hence far from the situation of balanced bilingualism (or trilingualism) that is said to bring positive cognitive effects.

This research consisted of five laboratory experiments designed to address the following two objectives in an integrated analysis: (1) To discriminate between the symbol Stop Ahead warning sign and a small set of other signs (which included the word-legend Stop Ahead sign); and (2) To analyze sign detection, recognizability, and processing characteristics by drivers. A set of 16 signs was used in each of three experiments. A tachistoscope was used to display each sign image to a respondent for a brief interval in a controlled viewing experiment. The first experiment was designed to test detection of a sign in the driver's visual field; the second experiment was designed to test the driver's ability to recognize a given sign in the visual field; and the third experiment was designed to test the speed and accuracy of a driver's response to each sign as a command to perform a driving action. A fourth experiment tested the meanings drivers associated with an eight-sign subset of the 16 signs used in the first three experiments. A fifth experiment required all persons to select which (if any) signs they considered to be appropriate for use on two scale model county road intersections. The conclusions are that word-legend Stop Ahead signs are more effective driver communication devices than symbol stop-ahead signs; that it is helpful to drivers to have a word plate supplementing the symbol sign if a symbol sign is used; and that the guidance in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices on the placement of advance warning signs should not supplant engineering judgment in providing proper sign communication at an intersection.

The silicon photomultiplier (SiPM) is a novel detector technology that has undergone a fast development in the last few years, owing to its single-photon resolution and ultra-fast response time. However, the typical high dark count rates of the sensor may prevent the detection of low intensity radiation fluxes. In this article, the time-gated operation with short active periods in the nanosecond range is proposed as a solution to reduce the number of cells fired due to noise and thus increase the dynamic range. The technique is aimed at application fields that function under a trigger command, such as gated fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy.

Työssä suunniteltiin ja toteutettiin linkkikorttien tuotannollinen testeri. Linkkikortti on osa CERN:iin rakennettavan hiukkaskiihdyttimen Large Hadron Colliderin koeasema Compact Muon Solenoidin luentajärjestelmää. Linkkikortin tehtävänä on muuttaa rinnakkaismuotoinen LVDS-signaali sarjamuotoiseksi optiseksi signaaliksi. Testattaessa testeri ja linkkikortti sijoitetaan kehikkoon, joten testerin liittimien pitää olla linkkikortin liittimien kanssa identtisiä. Testerin lähdöt ovat linkkikortin tuloja ja toisinpäin. Tällöin testattaessa voidaan ohjelmoitavien FPGA-piirien avulla lähettää signaalia kortilta toiselle. Vastaanottavan kortin FPGA-piirin avulla voidaan tarkistaa, onko data tullut perille muuttumattomana. Testin ohjaus tapahtuu tietokoneella, jolla käyttäjä antaa käskyn testin aloittamisesta ja jonne lopulta myös raportoidaan testin tulokset. Testien tulokset näytetään myös testerin ledeillä. Työssä ei pystytä linkkikorttien puuttumisen takia testaamaan testeriä loppukäytössään. Kuitenkin testerin toimivuus pystyttiin suurilta osin testaamaan, jolloin saatiin odotettuja tuloksia.

The Institute of Radiation Physics (IRA) is attached to the Department of Medical Radiology at the Vaud University Hospital Center (CHUV) in Lausanne. The Institute's main tasks are strongly linked to the medical activities of the Department: radiotherapy, radiodiagnostics, interventional radiology and nuclear medicine. The Institute also works in the fields of operational radiation protection, radiation metrology and radioecology. In the case of an accident involving radioactive materials, the emergency services are able to call on the assistance of radiation protection specialists. In order to avoid having to create and maintain a specific structure, both burdensome and rarely needed, Switzerland decided to unite all existing emergency services for such events. Thus, the IRA was invited to participate in this network. The challenge is therefore to integrate a university structure, used to academic collaborations and the scientific approach, to an interventional organization accustomed to strict policies, a military-style command structure and "drilled" procedures. The IRA's solution entails mobilizing existing resources and the expertise developed through professional experience. The main asset of this solution is that it involves the participation of committed collaborators who remain in a familiar environment, and are able to use proven materials and mastered procedures, even if the atmosphere of an accident situation differs greatly from regular laboratory routines. However, this solution requires both a commitment to education and training in emergency situations, and a commitment in terms of discipline by each collaborator in order to be integrated into a response plan supervised by an operational command center.

Python -ohjelmointiopas sisältää perustietoa ohjelmoinnista yleisesti sekä esittelee yksinkertaisia perusrakenteita, joiden pohjalta myös ohjelmoinnista mitään tietämätön ihminen voi luontevasti siirtyä ohjelmoinnin pariin. Opas on suunniteltu siten, että sen käyttäjän ei tarvitse osata etukäteen ohjelmoida, opas aloittaa käyttöympäristön asennuksesta, siihen tutustumisesta ja jatkaa siitä ohjelmointikeskeisimpiin aiheisiin.

Durante los cursos 2005/06 y 2006/07 se llevó a cabo un estudio sobre la incorporación de un centro virtual de recursos educativos como herramienta para la formación en TIC de estudiantes de magisterio de las universidades Rovira i Virgili y la de Lleida en el marco de la asignatura troncal Nuevas tecnologías aplicadas a la educación. Además de analizar la incidencia del centro virtual en la formación profesional de los estudiantes en el uso de TIC, el estudio tenía como objetivo comparar –entre los alumnos de ambos cursos y ambas universidades– el impacto de la asignatura en su percepción acerca de su capacitación y dominio de las TIC. En la primera parte del artículo se detallan los principales objetivos e instrumentos de nuestra investigación, en la segunda se describen y ejemplifican las características y funciones de la herramienta. Por último, se plantean los principales resultados y conclusiones de nuestra investigación.

A lo largo de la última década en Cataluña, la heterogeneidad identitaria, lingüística, cultural y étnica ha crecido de manera importante. En consecuencia, nuestras escuelas se han transformado en centros donde la pluralidad étnica, religiosa, cultural y lingüística es cada día más evidente. Pero, a diferencia de otros territorios del Estado, una de las características fundamentales de nuestro Sistema Educativo es su organización bajo los parámetros de la educación bilingüe. De esta manera, además de un profundo dominio del catalán, lengua propia de Cataluña y lengua usada como vehicular y de aprendizaje en la enseñanza, se persigue un buen conocimiento de la lengua castellana. En este contexto, diferentes estudios ponen en evidencia el papel clave del dominio de la lengua de la escuela tanto de cara a garantizar el éxito escolar como para la integración y la cohesión social. Con este marco de fondo, nos situamos en el caso del Instituto de Educación Secundaria (IES) de Guissona, en la comarca de la Segarra, donde por circunstancias diversas el fenómeno migratorio ha sido muy importante a lo largo de la última década. El objetivo de nuestra investigación es el análisis de las competencias lingüísticas del alumnado de dicho centro, tomando como referencia el nivel de competencia lingüística de sus iguales autóctonos.En concreto, a partir de una muestra de 28 niños y niñas inmigrantes que fueron comparados con un grupo de 93 escolares autóctonos de su misma edad y nivel escolar, nuestro trabajo analiza el desarrollo de diferentes habilidades en lengua catalana y castellana.

Este trabajo se desarrolla en el contexto sociocultural y lingüístico de la provincia de Lleida. En él se analiza la relación entre el dominio de las dos lenguas en contacto (catalán y castellano) con el rendimiento en matemáticas. Los resultados revelan que existe una correlación significativa entre el dominio de la lengua vehicular y el rendimiento matemático y, a su vez, que el mayor conocimiento de la lengua vehicular tiene efectos superiores en el rendimiento de los tres tipos de conocimiento que contempla la prueba de matemáticas. Por otra parte, se constata una elevada correlación entre el dominio del castellano y el resultado de la prueba de matemáticas, lo que revela que el conocimiento matemático obtenido a través de una de las lenguas se transfiere a la otra.

During the project we get familiar with Linksys WRT54GL wireless router and its network managing methods. Operating system is OpenWRT which is Linux-based distribution for embedded devices. OpenWRT uses two kind of approach for its network administration. The first one is web-based user interface and the second one is command line based. Both methods are working but do not solve all problems that competent network administrator can need for secured network managing. The goal of the project was design an NCurses-based user interface for network administration that can be run from command line. The user interface can be use for example from terminal via SSH which is yet faster and also light to use. The idea is to combine the user friendly of WWW-interface and the advanced options that command line based network managing can offer. Linux-based open source OpenWRT offers good development tools. There exist also a compact development community if there is need for further development of software in future. So far user interface for command line based network administrator is not available.
