Lan honen helburua enpresaren estrategia konpetitiboak Errendimendu Altuko Lan-Sistemen (EALS) ezarpenean zeresanik izan dezakeen aztertzea da, hau da, sistema hauen ezarpenean faktore baldintzatzaile bezala jokatu dezakeen edo ez analizatzea. Giza Baliabideen Zuzendaritza Estrategikoaren esparruan ikerketa asko egin dira “praktika onenen” potentzialtasunean estrategia konpetitiboaren jokaera aztertu dutenak, zehazki, Giza Baliabideen Zuzendaritza-Errendimendua binomioan duen eragina ikertu dutenak. Baina hauetan batez ere bere izaera moderatzailea aztertu da ikuspegi kontingentean oinarrituz. Izaera baldintzatzaile hau aztertzeko helburuarekin, lehenik eta behin literaturaren azterketa egiten dugu. Giza Baliabideen Zuzendaritza eta estrategia konpetitiboen arteko harremana lant zen duten ereduak berrikusten ditugu eta estrategia hauek EALS-kin erlazionat zen dituzten lanak ere kontutan hartzen dira. Ondoren, eta bereziki Porter-ek (1985) proposatutako estrategia konpetitiboei buruzko tipologian oinarritzen den eredua aztertuz, bertatik eratortzen diren konklusioak proposatzen dira. Horrez gain, aurrera begira EALS-n ikerketa ildo honetan sakondu beharko liratekeen urratsak proposatzen dira.

Enhancing the handover process in broadband wireless communication deployment has traditionally motivated many research initiatives. In a high-speed railway domain, the challenge is even greater. Owing to the long distances covered, the mobile node gets involved in a compulsory sequence of handover processes. Consequently, poor performance during the execution of these handover processes significantly degrades the global end-to-end performance. This article proposes a new handover strategy for the railway domain: the RMPA handover, a Reliable Mobility Pattern Aware IEEE 802.16 handover strategy "customized" for a high-speed mobility scenario. The stringent high mobility feature is balanced with three other positive features in a high-speed context: mobility pattern awareness, different sources for location discovery techniques, and a previously known traffic data profile. To the best of the authors' knowledge, there is no IEEE 802.16 handover scheme that simultaneously covers the optimization of the handover process itself and the efficient timing of the handover process. Our strategy covers both areas of research while providing a cost-effective and standards-based solution. To schedule the handover process efficiently, the RMPA strategy makes use of a context aware handover policy; that is, a handover policy based on the mobile node mobility pattern, the time required to perform the handover, the neighboring network conditions, the data traffic profile, the received power signal, and current location and speed information of the train. Our proposal merges all these variables in a cross layer interaction in the handover policy engine. It also enhances the handover process itself by establishing the values for the set of handover configuration parameters and mechanisms of the handover process. RMPA is a cost-effective strategy because compatibility with standards-based equipment is guaranteed. The major contributions of the RMPA handover are in areas that have been left open to the handover designer's discretion. Our simulation analysis validates the RMPA handover decision rules and design choices. Our results supporting a high-demand video application in the uplink stream show a significant improvement in the end-to-end quality of service parameters, including end-to-end delay (22%) and jitter (80%), when compared with a policy based on signal-to-noise-ratio information.

The degeneration of the outer retina usually causes blindness by affecting the photoreceptor cells. However, the ganglion cells, which consist of optic nerves, on the middle and inner retina layers are often intact. The retinal implant, which can partially restore vision by electrical stimulation, soon becomes a focus for research. Although many groups worldwide have spent a lot of effort on building devices for retinal implant, current state-of-the-art technologies still lack a reliable packaging scheme for devices with desirable high-density multi-channel features. Wireless flexible retinal implants have always been the ultimate goal for retinal prosthesis. In this dissertation, the reliable packaging scheme for a wireless flexible parylene-based retinal implants has been well developed. It can not only provide stable electrical and mechanical connections to the high-density multi-channel (1000+ channels on 5 mm × 5 mm chip area) IC chips, but also survive for more than 10 years in the human body with corrosive fluids.
The device is based on a parylene-metal-parylene sandwich structure. In which, the adhesion between the parylene layers and the metals embedded in the parylene layers have been studied. Integration technology for high-density multi-channel IC chips has also been addressed and tested with dummy and real 268-channel and 1024-channel retinal IC chips. In addition, different protection schemes have been tried in application to IC chips and discrete components to gain the longest lifetime. The effectiveness has been confirmed by the accelerated and active lifetime soaking test in saline solution. Surgical mockups have also been designed and successfully implanted inside dog's and pig's eyes. Additionally, the electrodes used to stimulate the ganglion cells have been modified to lower the interface impedance and shaped to better fit the retina. Finally, all the developed technologies have been applied on the final device with a dual-metal-layer structure.
