A planície sedimentar do Pantanal é um extenso trato deposicional moderno, no qual megaleques fluviais são as feições que mais se destacam, sendo o do rio Taquari o maior e mais conhecido. Também notável é o megaleque do rio São Lourenço, que, apesar de possuir área de cerca de 16.000 km², é ainda pouco conhecido nos seus aspectos geológicos e geomorfológicos. Situado na borda noroeste do Pantanal, o megaleque do São Lourenço coalesce com o do Taquari, sendo dele separado pela planície fluvial interleque do rio Piquiri. Com base na interpretação de dados orbitais e na sua validação em campo, foi possível identificar padrões de canais, interpretar processos sedimentares, reconhecer fenômenos de avulsão fluvial e delinear lobos deposicionais. Foram reconhecidos três compartimentos geomorfológicos no megaleque do São Lourenço: 1) lobos deposicionais abandonados indiferenciados, situados na porção proximal/média do megaleque e constituídos por sedimentos pleistocênicos depositados por paleocanais distributários, atualmente em dissecação por canais tributários; 2) cinturão de meandros de idade holocênica, limitado por terraços marginais e resultado de agradação fluvial em vale inciso, cuja direção está condicionada por estruturas N65E; 3) lobos deposicionais ativos, situados na porção distal do megaleque e principal área de sedimentação do sistema deposicional, caracterizados por frequentes eventos de avulsão, bifurcações do canal, padrão de drenagem distributária e presença de lóbulos deposicionais. Os lobos deposicionais ativos foram formados a partir de importante evento de avulsão fluvial, que culminou com o abandono da porção inferior do cinturão de meandros.

Pela conjugação dos aspectos geológicos, geomorfológicos e pedológicos da área de implantação do Jardim Botânico de Poços de Caldas, definiu-se a dinâmica fisiográfica da paisagem, com o objetivo de contribuir para o conhecimento dos aspectos físicos da região e, desta forma, ocupá-la de forma ordenada e sustentável. Verificou-se que o Jardim Botânico insere-se em uma paisagem aluvial associada a paisagens lacustres menores, em que as coberturas de alteração intempérica são mais ou menos espessas e possuem composição mista e características de transporte gravitacional. A ocorrência de organossolos restringe-se à paisagem lacustre atual/subatual, podendo estar aflorantes ou soterrados por material de transporte gravitacional. As unidades fisiográficas das cotas mais elevadas do terreno decorreram de esforços neotectônicos, que levaram ao soerguimento de blocos e mudança do nível de base. A estas unidades associam-se os neossolos e cambissolos, em sua maioria regolíticos e concrecionários. O estudo permitiu a delimitação de cinco classes de uso e ocupação do solo na área do Jardim Botânico.

The Pantanal is a Quaternary sedimentary basin located at the left margin of the Upper Paraguay River, west-central Brazil. Basin infilling was mainly by siliciclastic sediments and the stratigraphic succession exhibits an overall finingupward pattern. The depositional system tract is composed by a large meandering fluvial plain and several marginal alluvial fans, being the Taquari megafan the most striking feature. The present landscape is a complex tropical wetland, with geomorphic features derived from the present conditions and other inherited from successive Pleistocene and Holocene climates. During the Pleistocene, the sedimentary environment was dominated by braided alluvial fans, the original geometry of which is preserved as relict forms, permitting remarkable patterns of distributary paleochannels to be easily recognized in satellite images. Eolian processes were active in some abandoned lobes, contemporaneously with sedimentation in active fan lobes. Closed ponds bordered by lunette sand dunes, originally salt pans produced by eolian deflation, are relict eolian landforms in the Pantanal landscape. Eolian processes were probably more effective at the glacial maximum. Landscape has been changing in the Pantanal area since the end of the Pleistocene in adaptation to a more humid and warmer environment prevailing during Holocene. Initiation of the modern wetland has occurred during the Pleistocene / Holocene transition, with the change to a more humid climate and the individualization of lacustrine systems. The modern Pantanal wetland is a vast expanse of poorly drained lowlands that experiences annual flooding from summer to fall months. Although climatic fluctuations have occurred during all the Holocene, the alluvial fans have remained active depositional systems and lobes were formed by progradation and abandonment. Far from the continental margin, drainage basins in Central Amazonia should be in topographic steady state; but they are not. Abandoned remnant fluvial valleys up to hundreds of square kilometers in size are observed throughout Amazonia, and are evidence of significant landscape reorganization. While major Late Miocene drainage shifts occurred due to initiation of the transcontinental Amazon River, local landscape change has remained active until today. Driven either by dynamic topography, tectonism, and/or climatic fluctuations, drainage captures in Amazonia provide a natural experiment for assessing the geomorphic response of low-slope basins to sudden, capture related base-level falls. This paper evaluates the timing of geomorphic change by examining a drainage capture event across the Baependi fault scarp involving the Cuieiras and TarumA-Mirim River basins northwest of the city of Manaus in Brazil. A system of capture-related knickpoints was generated by base-level fall following drainage capture; through numerical modeling of their initiation and propagation, the capture event is inferred to have occurred between the middle and late Pleistocene, consistent with other studies of landscape change in surrounding areas. In low-slope settings like the Amazon River basin, base-level fall can increase erosion rates by more than an order of magnitude, and moderate to large river basins can respond to episodes of base-level fall over timescales of tens to hundreds of thousands of years. Geologic and geomorphologic mapping are important ways to characterize the environment, because they look to describe and diagnose landforms, identifying and understanding the morphogenetic processes, making it possible to comprehend the landscape dynamic. This work aimed to make a geological and geomorphological map, in a 1:10.000 scale, of the Morro Azul, the main elevation in the city of Limeira – SP, with the application of photogeological techniques and field descriptions. As final products are presented a geological-geomorphological map, a topographical profile, a slope map, beyond the main characteristics of the geological-geomorphological units of the area. This study presents itself as a preliminary work, and can serve as a subsidy to more specific works, such as geotechnics, environmental problems, among others

The area chosen for this study is the island of Trinidade, which is located 1167 km off the Brazilian coast, in parallel Victory at 20 ° 30'S and 29 º 19'W, being the most easterly point of our continent. The isolation of oceanic island of Trinidade leaves no noticeable that she is part of a large submarine volcanic chain oriented east-west lineament known as Vitória- Trindade. Along with the island of Martin Vaz, who is Federal Territory is administered by the Navy of Brazil. Both correspond to Source alkaline volcanic islands. The area of the island of Trinidad has approximately 10 km2. Geologically consisting ankaratritic spills, spills tannbuschiticos, volcanic tuff spills analcite-ankaratrite, phonolite spills, spills nefelinite, pyroclastics, spills grazinite, tinguaitos, olivine-analcitito, calcarenite dunes and wind according to Almeida (1961). The island has its base on the ocean floor, at 5,800 m depth. It is the only place still recognizes preserved volcanic necks and plugs, as well as remnants of a volcano in Brazil. Magmatism occurred here a sodium alkali-silica subsaturated where his wrist was last 50,000 years according to Almeida (1961). It is a place with restricted access due to their distance from the coast, his contribution and hard to be an exclusive area of the Navy. On the island with peaks occur up to 620 meters high, and its rugged mountainous terrain and difficult access to very specific points, as the peak of Desire, peak Fazendinha, Monument and other points on the island. Because of its location far from the coast, its small infrastructure, difficulty of landing and restricted access by sea, the island of Trinidad offers no possibility of tourism, being a military outpost, and scientific basis of great importance, which conduct research in area of marine biology, oceanography, geology and others

Landscape is the result of interaction between tectonic, weathering and pedogenetic processes, so it is necessary to understand the morphogenesis and relate it to the landforms and landscape. Therefore, this project comprises a geomorphological characterization of some areas associated with the fault zones of Taubaté Basin, at the surroundings of the cities from São José dos Campos to Taubaté SP, emphasizing the Quaternary landscape evolution, where the normal faults played an important role in controling and they were originated, mostly, from the reactivation of Precambrian fault zones by tectonic action. The rift valley scenario is highlighted in the region, identifying the sharp relief from the basin boundary, featuring both Serra do Mar and Serra da Mantiqueira, and a central depressed area where the Taubaté Basin is located. Deforming or modifying basin features are identified, promoting the rearrangement and conditioning of the drainage network and relief, which indicates the presence of morphostructures, conducting to the deduction of a late tectonic process
