Spectroelectrochemical Study of the Photoinduced Catalytic Formation of 4,4′-Dimercaptoazobenzene from 4-Aminobenzenethiol Adsorbed on Nanostructured Copper

Surface-enhanced raman scattering (SERS) spectra of self-assembled monolayers of 4-aminobenzenethiol (4-ABT) on copper (Cu) and silver (Ag) surfaces decorated with Cu and Ag nanostructures, respectively, have been obtained with lasers at 532, 632.8, 785, and 1064 nm. Density functional theory (DFT) has been used to obtain calculated vibrational frequencies of the 4-ABT and 4,4′-dimercaptoazobenzene (4,4′-DMAB) molecules adsorbed on model Cu surfaces. The features of the SERS spectra depend on the electrode potential and the type and power density of the laser. SERS spectra showed the formation of the 4,4′-DMAB on the nanostructured Cu surface independently of the laser employed. For the sake of comparison SERS spectra of a self-assembled monolayer of the 4-ABT on Ag surfaces decorated with Ag nanostructures have been also obtained with the same four lasers. When using the 532 and 632.8 nm lasers, the 4,4′-DMAB is formed on Cu surface at electrode potentials as low as −1.0 V (AgCl/Ag) showing a different behavior with respect to Ag (and others metals such as Au and Pt). On the other hand, the surface-enhanced infrared reflection absorption (SEIRA) spectra showed that in the absence of the laser excitation the 4,4′-DMAB is not produced from the adsorbed 4-ABT on nanostructured Cu in the whole range of potentials studied. These results point out the prevalence of the role of electron–hole pairs through surface plasmon activity to explain the obtained SERS spectra.

La elaboración del informe científico: los artículos científicos como referencia para la elaboración de informes de prácticas

El análisis, elaboración y presentación de resultados tanto experimentales como teóricos es una parte extremadamente importante en la investigación científica. Según nuestra experiencia docente, existe una notable carencia entre los estudiantes en su capacidad para la preparación de informes a partir de los trabajos experimentales realizados en el laboratorio. A veces esa carencia se agrava por no disponer de unos criterios claros de lo que debe aparecer en un informe científico. Por tanto, el trabajo de esta red será la búsqueda de metodologías para incentivar la obtención de competencias por parte del alumnado en lo que respecta a la preparación de informes de resultados de trabajos científicos, sean experimentales o de cálculo teórico. Se tomarán como guía los modelos universalmente utilizados en la bibliografía científica. De esta forma se logrará también familiarizar al alumnado en los cauces habituales de publicación de la investigación, usando ejemplos relacionados con el ámbito de la asignatura escogida (Cinética Química, 3er curso del Grado de Química).

A Mineralogical Study of a Dravitic Tourmaline from the Grenville Province

Tourmaline from a gem-quality deposit in the Grenville province has been studied with X-ray diffraction, visible-near infrared spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, electron microprobe and optical measurements. The tourmaline is found within tremolite-rich calc-silicate pods hosted in marble of the Central Metasedimentary Belt. The crystals are greenish-greyish-brown and have yielded facetable material up to 2.09 carats in size. Using the classification of Henry et al. 2011 the tourmaline is classified as a dravite, with a representative formula shown to be (Na0.73Ca0.2380.032)(Mg2+2.913Fe2+0.057Ti4+0.030) (Al3+5.787Fe3+0.017Mg2+0.14)(Si6.013O18)(BO3)3(OH)3((OH,O)0.907F0.093). Rietveld analysis of powder diffraction data gives a = 15.9436(8) Å, c = 7.2126(7) Å and a unit cell volume of 1587.8 Å3. A polished thin section was cut perpendicular to the c-axis of one tourmaline crystal, which showed zoning from a dark brown core into a lighter rim into a thin darker rim and back into lighter zonation. Through the geochemical data, three key stages of crystal growth can be seen within this thin section. The first is the core stage which occurs from the dark core to the first colourless zone; the second is from this colourless zone increasing in brown colour to the outer limit before a sudden absence of colour is noted; the third is a sharp change from the end of the second and is entirely colourless. These events are the result of metamorphism and hydrothermal fluids resulting from nearby felsic intrusive plutons. Scanning electron microscope, and electron microprobe traverses across this cross-section revealed that the green colour is the result of iron present throughout the system while the brown colour is correlated with titanium content. Crystal inclusions in the tourmaline of chlorapatite, and zircon were identified by petrographic analysis and confirmed using scanning electron microscope data and occur within the third stage of formation.

Female Labour Force Participation and Economic Development in Southern Mediterranean Countries: What scenarios for 2030? MEDPRO Technical Report No. 19/December 2012

This paper investigates the relationship between female labour force participation rates and economic growth in southern Mediterranean countries. A two-step methodology involving econometric estimations and the use of a general equilibrium model was used for this purpose. The econometric estimations suggest that there is a U-shaped relationship between economic growth and female labour force participation rates and they indicate the presence of region-specific barriers impeding women's entry into the labour force in southern Mediterranean countries. The econometric results were fed into a general equilibrium model, the GEM-E3-MEDPRO, which was used to simulate two alternative assumptions on developments in female labour participation rates in the region up to 2030. The first of these simulated changes in female labour force participation rates arising from income level trends projected for the period 2015–2030 in southern Mediterranean countries. The second assumed the lowering of region-specific barriers which deter female labour force participation. The results of these simulations suggest that lower female labour force participation rates may lead to marginally lower economic growth in the region, while the removal of region-specific barriers to female labour force participation may encourage economic growth. This has important policy implications, suggesting that policies intended to remove such barriers could help to promote the growth of the region's economies.

Entwicklung einer mechanisch-verschlussgesicherten Kopplelvorrichtung mit integriertem elektrischen Lademechanismus für Elektroroller

Im Rahmen dieser Bachelorarbeit wurde eine Lösung von einer mechanisch verschlussgesicherten Koppelvorrichtung mit integriertem elektrischen Lademechanismus für Elektroroller entwickelt. Davon bezieht es sich auf die Scooter (E-Fahrrad) von REVOLUZER. Das Ziel ist, dass wenn der Elektroroller aufgeladen wird, der E-Roller auch unter Verschluss gegen Diebstahl geschlossen wird. Gemäß der Aufgabenstellung wurden die technischen Daten von Scooter beherrscht. Ebenfalls wird der Bedarf für das System der Hochschule Anhalt bewertet. Im Folgenden wurde der Stand der Technik von weltweit elektrischen Ladestationen für Zweiräder dargestellt, davon waren der mechanische Diebstahlsicherungsschutz und die elektrische Ladevorrichtung Schwerpunkte. Mit morphologischem Kasten wurden die eigenen Lösungen ausführlich entworfen. Davon sind die entsprechende Darstellung mit Hilfe von CAD Programm (Catia Programm) und mit Werteskala für Nutzwertanalyse und Richtlinie VDI 2225 besser zu analysieren und zu bewerten. Nach der Auswahl aus allen Lösungen wurde Festigkeit für Nutzungstauglichkeit nachgewiesen.
