Integração conceptual na descrição de fenômenos gramaticais do português

Functional grammar currently has a great acceptance in linguistics, mainly because it can enlighten grammatical facts' motivation in the structure of a text. From its emergence, the tradition of studying grammar by grammar has come to an end. Demonstrative pronouns, for instance, have begun to be viewed as efficient tools of text cohesion, used to resume terms from previous clauses. This task, however, ends up leaving an endless trail of black boxes. How is it possible to explain the origin of demonstratives' anaphoric functioning if they are originally used to indicate things or people relative to the interlocutors' spatial position? This work aims at showing that Cognitive Linguistics arises just as an option for opening those black boxes. This article focuses on one of its themes - the conceptual blending theory - to support this possibility. Firstly, it was necessary to integrate the cognitive model into the complexity theory, according to Bybee (2010) and Castilho (2009), who understand language as a complex adaptive system. After that, a brief updated description on the conceptual blending theory is made and its application in some grammatical facts of the Brazilian Portuguese language is suggested under the morphological and syntactic levels.

Apontamentos críticos para o tratamento da questão ambiental na perspectiva da emancipação

The belief in the existence of an ecological crisis that would affect the future of the planet, is one of the factors that causes the appearance of ecological concern, resulting in the adoption of non-predatory consumer practices and more respectful relationships with non-humans beings. This study starts from the assumption of the existence of an environmental question, and aims to investigate some of the cultural causes of human predation and identify possible ways in which environmental question can be treated critically to search overcomes. Follows the reasoning that western society as a complex of social relations, the capitalism, as a mode of production utilities and rational right, are all consequences of the modern rationality, cognitive and moral logic that transforms people and nature in satisfaction instruments of individual interests. However, despite being identified as the causative root of environmental question, modern rationality takes with it enough to promote the development of ecological respect, necessary in confronting and overcoming the environmental question, as it will be applied as a principle in redefinition of the relationship of human beings with themselves and with nature. And modern rationality can also make capitalism more efficient in the use and reuse of materials so as to consume fewer resources on the planet to satisfy human needs.

Contribuições na modelagem dinâmica e no controle neural de um braço robótico com elos flexíveis

Em geral, estruturas espaciais e manipuladores robóticos leves têm uma característica similar e inerente que é a flexibilidade. Esta característica torna a dinâmica do sistema muito mais complexa e com maiores dificuldades para a análise de estabilidade e controle. Então, braços robóticos bastantes leves, com velocidade elevada e potencia limitada devem considerar o controle de vibração causada pela flexibilidade. Por este motivo, uma estratégia de controle é desejada não somente para o controle do modo rígido mas também que seja capaz de controlar os modos de vibração do braço robótico flexível. Também, redes neurais artificiais (RNA) são identificadas como uma subespecialidade de inteligência artificial. Constituem atualmente uma teoria para o estudo de fenômenos complexos e representam uma nova ferramenta na tecnologia de processamento de informação, por possuírem características como processamento paralelo, capacidade de aprendizagem, mapeamento não-linear e capacidade de generalização. Assim, neste estudo utilizam-se RNA na identificação e controle do braço robótico com elos flexíveis. Esta tese apresenta a modelagem dinâmica de braços robóticos com elos flexíveis, 1D no plano horizontal e 2D no plano vertical com ação da gravidade, respectivamente. Modelos dinâmicos reduzidos são obtidos pelo formalismo de Newton-Euler, e utiliza-se o método dos elementos finitos (MEF) na discretização dos deslocamentos elásticos baseado na teoria elementar da viga. Além disso, duas estratégias de controle têm sido desenvolvidas com a finalidade de eliminar as vibrações devido à flexibilidade do braço robótico com elos flexíveis. Primeiro, utilizase um controlador neural feedforward (NFF) na obtenção da dinâmica inversa do braço robótico flexível e o calculo do torque da junta. Absorção e níveis críticos de fósforo na parte aérea da mamoneira cultivada em diferentes classes de solos

Soil that has a high degree of weathering, with more inorganic P bound to Fe and Al oxides, has less P availability to plants. Thus, the critical element of a plant refers to the level below which the growth rate and plant production decreases, demonstrating the need for supplementary fertilization. Accordingly, an experiment was conducted in a greenhouse at Embrapa Algodao with the objective of evaluating the response of castor plants to five doses of P in four types of soil with different adsorption characteristics and critical levels of foliar P. The experimental design was completely randomized in a 4 x 5 factorial design, four types of soil and 5 levels of P with four replications. For TCo, there was an increase in height growth, with dose of 229.6 mg dm(-3) responsible for maximum plant height (74.3 cm). The largest diameter stem (17.58 mm) was observed in CXve with an application of 229.6 mg dm(-3) of P; a decrease was seen when using higher doses. The increase in leaf area was smaller in RY (4724.8 cm(2)), where it was obtained with a dose of 280.2 mg dm(-3). In general, critical levels of P in the plant shoots did not vary much between the soils. The critical level of P in castor bean shoot dry mass was higher (4.61 g kg(-1)) in TCo, this result being directly related to the low clay content of the soil.

We present a succinct review of the canonical formalism of classical mechanics, followed by a brief review of the main representations of quantum mechanics. We emphasize the formal similarities between the corresponding equations. We notice that these similarities contributed to the formulation of quantum mechanics. Opções metodológicas para o estudo de fenômenos variáveis relacionados à 1a pessoa do discurso

This paper presents methodology for an integrated treatment of three variable phenomena in Brazilian portuguese: (i) encoding of first-person plural into the forms nós (we) and a gente (the people), (ii) verbal agreement with the pronoun nós and (iii) verbal agreement with the pronominal form a gente. Based on the theoretical framework provided by Labovian sociolinguistics (LABOV, 1966, 1972), the methodology is applied to a sample of Brazilian portuguese spoken in the countryside of São Paulo State (GONÇALVES, 2007). The results indicate that distinct factors predominate in the choice of the alternative forms of each phenomenon: in the verbal agreement with a gente, linguistic factors are the most prominent; in the verbal agreement with nós, social factors are the most salient; and in the use of nós/a gente both linguistic and social factors prevail.

Confidências: os ensaios críticos de Kate Chopin

Between 1894 and 1899 Kate Chopin (1850 – 1904), one of the main exponents of American Realism and Feminism, published seven critical essays in newspapers and journals. To this number, it might be added the sketch ―Confidences‖ and the two first entrances of Impressions, her second diary, totalizing nine texts. These texts unveil a refined critical spirit, an outspoken and edge-cutting style in writing, sometimes sarcastically merciless, and an eager reader, all of them aspects that would be put into practice by the Feminist criticism expressed in the author‘s novels and short stories. To introduce and briefly discuss these essays are the main purposes of this paper.

Fundamentos filosóficos e antropológicos da teoria do se-movimentar e a formação de sujeitos emancipados, autônomos e críticos: o exemplo do currículo de educação física do Estado de São Paulo

This article examines philosophical and anthropological underpinnings of the Sich-Bewegen Theory, based on the phenomenological philosophy by Merleau-Ponty and social anthropology by Mauss and Geertz. It also considers implications for Physical Education Elementary and High School curricula aimed at forming emancipated, autonomous and critical individuals, taking the Physical Education Curriculum of the State of Sao Paulo as example. It concludes that the curriculum needs to imbricate into students'social life and take into account the challenges and issues from contemporary society.
