El objetivo de este artículo es dar a conocer la intervención socioeducativa con mujeres en contextos de prostitución desde la acepción de educación como relación. Deriva de una investigación ya concluida de tipo cualitativo, etnográfico y socio-crítico en la que se han recogido las voces de mujeres inmigrantes que están en contextos de prostitución, profesionales de la intervención y especialistas teóricas en el tema. Este nivel micro, interpersonal, de la acción educativa recogido como relación 'cara a cara' o relación de proximidad- está presente, aunque bajo formas e intensidades diferentes-, en todos y cada uno de los ámbitos y tipologías de la intervención: la ya citada relación 'cara a cara', de grupo, el trabajo de y en equipo, con la comunidad y con las administraciones. A partir de esta relación de proximidad se producen las condiciones necesarias para que se vivencie el reconocimiento posibilitador de logros en lo que respecta a autonomía, responsabilidad, toma de conciencia y autoestima de las mujeres en contextos de prostitución.

Natural products have been utilized by humans since ancient times and the relief and cure of their diseases was the first purpose for using natural products in medicine. The history of the oriental and occidental civilizations is very rich in examples of the utilization of natural products in medicine and health care. Chinese traditional medicine is one of the most important examples of how natural products can be efficient in the treatment of diseases, and it points to the importance of scientific research on natural products, concerning the discovery of new active chemical entities. The complexity, chemical diversity and biological properties of natural products always fascinated people, and during the last 200 years, this led to the discovery of important new drugs. In the last 30 years, the development of new bioassay techniques, biotechnology methods, bio-guided phytochemical studies, automated high throughput screening and high performance analytical methods, have introduced new concepts and possibilities of rational drug design and drug discovery. In this context, natural products have played an important and decisive role in the development of modern medicinal chemistry.

The synthesis of ZSM-5 zeolite was studied by three synthesis methods: standard synthesis, three day synthesis and synthesis employing clays (kaolin and montmorillonite). The raw materials and prepared materials were characterized by Chemical Analysis by X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD). The results show that it is possible to synthesized ZSM-5 zeolite using clays as raw materials. Kaolin gives phases of higher crystalinity than montmorillonite.

During the last five decades, as a result of an interaction between natural product chemistry, synthetic organic chemistry, molecular biology and spectroscopy, scientists reached an extraordinary level of comprehension about the natural processes by which living organisms build up complex molecules. In this context, 13C nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, allied with isotopic labeling, played a determinant role. Nowadays, the widespread use of modern NMR techniques allows an even more detailed picture of the biochemical steps by accurate manipulation of the atomic nuclei. This article focuses on the development of such techniques and their impact on biosynthetic studies.

Analytical procedures used for determining the concentrations and isotope composition of strontium in subsurface waters, by mass spectrometry, are described. Sampling was performed in coastal plateaus, salt marsh and mangrove environments in the coastal region of Pará. Coastal plateau waters have delta87Sr between 1.51 and 6.26‰ and Sr concentration bellow 58 ppb. Salt marsh waters show delta87Sr between 0.55 and 0.90‰ and Sr concentration between 93 and 114 ppm, while mangrove waters have delta87Sr‰ around zero and Sr concentration above 15 ppm. Differences in the 87Sr/86Sr ratio in these subsurface waters are detected, as well as seasonal variations in the coastal pleteau waters.

L’article parteix de la hipòtesi que ensenyar a llegir i a escriure és complex perquè hi intervenen diversos factors, cada un amb els seus marcs teòrics de referència i tots ells interrelacionats: factors lingüístics, evolutius, cognitius, socioculturals i emocionals.Al llarg dels últims quaranta anys i, un cop superada la discussió entre els mètodes sintètics i globals, la didàctica dels inicis de la lectura i de l’escriptura s’ha enfocat, en consonància amb les noves aportacions de la lingüística i de la psicologia, des de diferents perspectives. Se’n destaquen tres: la didàctica centrada en el text, la didàctica centrada en l’infant, i la didàctica centrada en el context. Actualment, la convivència d’aquestes tres perspectives a l’escola fa que molt sovint una s’imposi sobre les altres i que oblidem de com és de complex ensenyar a llegir i a escriure. Ara bé, de la reflexió sobre cada un d’aquests enfocaments, se’n deriven uns criteris generals que, tot i plantejar tensions, ens permeten abordar el treball de la llengua escrita, de manera que, quan els infants acabin el Cicle Inicial de Primària, ja tinguin adquirides les competències necessàries per a tenir certa autonomia i gaudir de la lectura i de l’escriptura.

In this work we take advantage of the polyelectrolyte character of some Brazilian native gums to fabricate electrically conductive, nanostructured films. The gums Sterculia urens, (caraia), Sterculia striata (chicha) or Anadenanthera macrocarpa Benth were assembled in conjunction with poly(o-methoxyaniline) (POMA) in the form of layered nanostructured films using the layer-by-layer (LbL) technique. All the LbL films displayed a well-defined electroactivity, as confirmed via cyclic voltammetry. In comparison to POMA LbL films fabricated with conventional polyelectrolytes (viz. poly(vinyl sulfonic acid)-PVS), the presence of the gums in the LbL films increased remarkably the electrochemical stability of the films.

The investigation of extracts from six species of marine invertebrates yielded one new and several known natural products. Isoptilocaulin from the sponge Monanchora aff. arbuscula displayed antimicrobial activity at 1.3 mg/mL against an oxacillin-resistant strain of Staphylococcus aureus. Five inactive known dibromotyrosine derivatives, 2 6, were isolated from a new species of marine sponge, Aplysina sp. The sponges Petromica ciocalyptoides and Topsentia ophiraphidites yielded the known halistanol sulfate A (7) as an inhibitor of the antileishmanial target adenosine phosphoribosyl transferase. The ascidian Didemnum ligulum yielded asterubin (10) and the new N,N-dimethyl-O-methylethanolamine (11). The octocoral Carijoa riisei yielded the known 18-acetoxypregna-1,4,20-trien-3-one (12), which displayed cytotoxic activity against the cancer cell lines SF295, MDA-MB435, HCT8 and HL60.

This paper presents an overview of the Natural Products Research in Brazil in the last five years (2002-2006), and also discusses how some relevant aspects of the Chemical Biology area could create new research opportunities and challenges for the natural product chemists. In addition, some aspects of the scientific policies and their impact on current projects are discussed.

The aim of this work was to investigate the copper electrode behavior in the voltammetric determination of glyphosate. The best conditions for this determination are phosphate buffer 0.05 mol L-1 and pH 7.3, and the peak potential is observed at 187 mV. LD and LQ values are 59 µg L-1 e 196 µg L-1, respectively. A water sample was analysed for glyphosate and identical results were obtained by using the analytical curve and the standard addition method. The comparison with a voltammetric method with Hg electrode, after a reaction with nitrite, showed quite concordant results for the analysis of the surface water sample. Therefore, the proposed method can be applied to direct determinations of the herbicide in waters, decreasing the time of analysis; besides, the method is in agreement with the "green chemistry" concept.

For a quarter of a century, metathesis has become indispensable for the synthesis of natural and non-natural products, particularly of biologically active compounds. This review illustrates through a maximum of appropriate examples the power and the versatility of the metathesis ring-closure (RCM) reaction as a key ring-closure methodology for the synthesis of natural macrocycles. Its high functional group compatibility as well as the possibility of further transformations makes this reaction a powerful tool in the cases where the structural framework and function requirements are difficult to meet.

Anthocyanins are among the most important plant pigments. Due to their potential benefits for human health, there is considerable interest in these natural pigments. Nonetheless, there is great difficulty in finding a technique that could provide the identification of structurally similar compounds and estimate the number and concentration of the species present. A lot of techniques have been tried to find the best methodology to extract information from these systems. In this paper, a review of the most important procedures is given, from the extraction to the identification of anthocyanins in natural extracts.

This work proposes the synthesis of zeolite A by IZA standard proceedures starting from a natural clay. The clay was used in its natural form and after calcination at 900ºC. The resulting materials were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and porosity analysis by nitrogen adsorption. Results showed low surface area for Na-A zeolite in sodium form, but a higher one in CaA based on the nitrogen accessibility. The presence of cubic crystals for the A phase was observed in the SEM micrographies. The new procedure starting from natural clay favors the formation of sodalite while that using the calcinated clay gives A.

This paper stresses the importance of developing mathematical thought in young children based on everyday contexts, since these are meaningful learning situations with an interdisciplinary, globalised focus. The first part sets out the framework of reference that lays the theoretical foundations for these kinds of educational practices. The second part gives some teaching orientations for work based on everyday contexts. It concludes with the presentation of the activity 'We’re off to the cinema to learn mathematics!'
