A presente invenção descreve um método e kit para a identificação de polimorfismos associados à morte súbita cardíaca (MSC) . A tecnologia desenvolvida promove a análise em conjunto de SNPs (polimorfismo de um único nucleotídeo) relacionados à MSC. Esta técnica poderá ser utilizada na genética forense e médica, para auxiliar no diagnóstico de causa de morte e doenças cardiovasculares, respectivamente, bem como na identificação da pré-disposição genética ao desenvolvimento destas doenças.

Produção científica sobre educação médica no Brasil: estudo a partir das publicações da Revista Brasileira de Educação Médica

Research in medical education is the critical and systematic study of teaching and learning in medicine. It's a developing field with an increasing number of researchers and publications. In Brazil, the Brazilian Journal of Medical Education (RBEM) is the main journal in the area. The present study describes Brazilian scientific production in medical education by analyzing papers published by the RBEM from 2006 to 2010. In this period, the number of articles increased by 117.6%, averaging 60.4 articles per year. There was also an increase in the proportion of new research studies. The Southeast region and public institutions account for the greatest share of the articles. The most frequent keywords were medical education, medical students and curriculum. The growth of the RBEM reflects the development of research in medical education in Brazil and is in keeping with the logic of national scientific production.

In the context of university libraries, the optimization and streamlining of services and processes related to informational content indexing and retrieval are strongly influenced by the indexing policy adopted. This article is aimed at researching the indexing policy elements that are more suitable for medical university libraries. To achieve our objective, we applied three instruments: organizational culture analysis, individual verbal protocol and evaluation of indexing. Results emphasize the importance of developing an indexing policy to improve the processes and services offered by university libraries, as well as the retrieval of information by the user community. More studies are necessary in the medical area involvoving catalogers, experts, users and managers for the development of the indexing manual.

Morbidades e consumo de álcool em pacientes internados na Clínica Médica de um hospital universitário

Abusive consumption of alcohol leads to several negative consequences to health and quality of life, as it increases the frequency of diseases that cause death or functional disabilities. The rates of patients admitted to hospital due to physical problems stemming from alcohol abuse are high. This study aimed at identifying patients according to variables age, gender and education level as well as at evaluating the prevalence of CAGE-positive patients and morbidity due to CID-10 (International Classification of Diseases) by the World Health Organization. It is a cross-sectional, observational, exploratory, descriptive and quantitative study. It was conducted at the Botucatu School of Medicine University Hospital (HC) from July to September 2010, at the Internal Medicine ward. This ward aggregates 5 specialties, namely, Cardiology, Hematology, General Medicine, Nephrology and Gastroclinic. Presently, it has 36 beds, of which four are for Intensive Care Therapy (ICT). Three hundred and ten medical charts were analyzed for identification of morbidities and of variables age, gender and schooling. A closed semistructured questionnaire including, among other questions, the CAGE test was applied to each individual. The CAGE test is a questionnaire that comprises four questions and considers that one who answers two or more of such questions affirmatively is a suspected case of alcoholism. The total population studied included 310 patients. Indexes of 60% (186) male and of 40% (124) female patients were found. As regards age range, a population with a higher prevalence of individuals from 51 to 70 years old (41%) was observed. The main education indexes were: incomplete Elementary School: 23.22% (72), complete Elementary School: 21.61% (67), incomplete Secondary School: 18.40% (57) and Illiteracy: 17.74% (55). Método de pontos interiores no planejamento ótimo do tratamento de câncer por radioterapia

The Medical Physics has been developing very fast due to the progress of the technologies and to the increase of the concerns with cure of diseases. One of the Medical Physics main performances at the present time is the use of ionizing radiations for cancer treatment, especially, services as Radiotherapy. The radiotherapy technique uses ionizing radiation with therapeutic end of cancer controls, avoiding your proliferation and it worsens of the patient. For the treatment a radiation bunch is used, with rectangular form, that it passes through the different types of tissues of the patient's body, and depending on the attenuation and of the depth of the fabrics, a great amount of energy is deposited inside in different points of the body. Like this, to plan this treatment type it should be obtained the dimension of the distribution and dose absorption along the volume. For this, it is necessary in the planning of the treatment of the cancer for radiotherapy to build isodose curves, which are lines that represent points of same amount of dose to be deposited in the area to be treated. To aid the construction of the curves of form isodose to reach the best result in the planning of the treatment, in other words, a great planning, providing the maximum of dose in the tumor and saving the healthy and critical organs, it has been using mathematical tools and computational. A plan of cancer treatment for radiotherapy is considered great when all the parameters that involve the treatment, be them physical or biological, they were investigated and adapted individually for the patient. For that, is considered the type and the location of the tumor, worrying about the elimination of the cancer without damaging the healthy tissue of the treated area, mainly the risk organs, which are in general very sensitive to the radiations. Caracterização morfo-anatômica de beressol [Trimezia juncifolia (Klatt.) Benth]

A Trimezia juncifolia (Iridaceae) é encontrada nas regiões tropicais e subtropicais e possui características muito próximas das plantas do mesmo gênero e família. Ela é utilizada pela população de Botucatu, São Paulo, para a depuração do sangue, para feridas intermitentes e como antiinflamatório. Por possuir interesse econômico primordialmente ornamental, são raros os estudos que a caracteriza, facilitando as complicações que podem ocorrer por trocas de espécies. Por causa disso, este trabalho tem como objetivos descrever a morfologia externa da Trimezia juncifolia, visando a caracterização da droga vegetal, e a anatomia das raízes, bulbo, caule aéreo e escamas do bulbo, visando uma descrição microscópica farmacopeica. A caracterização morfológica da planta foi feita com o auxílio de estereomicroscópio binocular. Para o estudo anatômico de Trimezia juncifolia (beressol), foram selecionados exemplares que contenham raízes, caule subterrâneo, e caule aéreo. Os catafilos, bulbo, raízes e caule aéreo foram divididos em terço apical, médio e basal. Com ênfase no caule subterrâneo, o bulbo e as raízes tiveram as três frações analisadas, e o catafilo, as frações média e basal. Somente o terço médio do caule aéreo foi analisado.O material foi fixado em solução de glutaraldeído e formaldeído. Em seguida o material foi conduzido às etapas de inclusão em resina (metacrilato). O material incluído foi seccionado em micrótomo de rotação. As secções dispostas em lâminas foram coradas com azul de toluidina pH 6,8. Mesmo com a descrição das frações medianas da raiz, bulbo, catafilos e caule aéreo, ou escapo, na discussão deste trabalho foi dada ênfase à análise do caule subterrâneo e raízes.
