Cultural relativism in the Universal Periodic Review of the Human Rights Council

This Working Paper aims to offer an up-to-date list of cultural relativist players and arguments with respect to human rights, constituted by China, Viet Nam, Myanmar, Iran, Pakistan, Yemen, Syria, Malaysia and Cuba. This working paper argues that Indonesia, Iraq, Colombia and Mexico are not in the same cultural relativist group of states maintained by renowned scholars, notably Cristina Cerna and Dianne Otto. As such, apart from this form of cultural relativism based on the respect for the self-determination of indigenous peoples and communities, this working paper exposes two different categories of radical cultural relativism based on revolutionary discourse and/or radical Islamism, as well as targets the credibility on the latter two based on the information facilitated by the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council (HRC) Universal Periodic Review (UPR).

Arts Fusió : una proposta didàctica transdisciplinària a través d’un procés d’aprenentatge creatiu

Arts Fusió és un projecte pedagògic entorn a la transdisciplinarietat artística, consistent en una recerca al voltant d'aquest concepte i dels valors formatius que aporta en processos d'aprenentatge creatiu. A partir d'aquí hem creat uns principis metodològics per orientar una didàctica cap a la fusió del teatre, la dansa, la música i les arts visuals. Per posar de manifest els beneficis de la nostra proposta hem realitzat aplicacions didàctiques en educacio artística superior i en educació secundària obligatòria. Metodològicament ens situem en el paradigma de la complexitat i basem les intervencions en una perspectiva qualitativa exploratòria, en concret dintre de la línia de la investigació avaluativa. Com a resultats del treball hem vist que la transdisciplinarietat artística pot actuar com a mitjà i com a fi educatiu segons el context en el que ens trobem.

Screening for health impacts in Local Area Planning in Donegal County Council (2004)

In 2004 an interagency team consisting of members the North Western Health Board and Donegal County Council commissioned the IPH to conduct a HIA screening exercise on planning policy in Donegal. This involved an overview of literature, analysis of policy documents, contact with Planning Officers and observation of public consultation meetings. Following completion of the final report, the intention is to produce a user-friendly template to enable planners to incorporate a health dimension into their decision making.

The Minister for Health and Children has requested that an independent review be carried out of the circumstances surrounding the employment of a UK based Consultant Psychiatrist, Dr John Harding-Price, to a locum psychiatrist position with the South Eastern Health Board (SEHB) while he was suspended by the General Medical Council (GMC) in the United Kingdom and consequently the subject of legal proceedings by the Medical Council in Ireland. Women, Debt & Health; a Joint report of The Women’s Health Council and MABS The main aims of the â?~Women, Debt and Healthâ?T project were to:- explore whether women attending the MABS service commonly discuss health during their money advice and budgeting consultations;- investigate whether women attending MABS identifi ed links between their debt or financial difficulties and their health; and- document the types of health issues experienced by MABS clients.- A secondary aim of the research was to explore the need for, and nature of, further research in this area. National Council on Ageing and Older People РAnnual Report 2008 2008 was a year of change for the National Council on Ageing and Older People. In January the Government announced the establishment of the Office for Older People at the Department of Health and Children and that the Office would have a key role in progressing the Government̢?Ts agenda for older people. The decision provided that Council staff would be transferred to the Office and that the Council would be replaced by an Advisory Council. Although a sad day for the Council itself, we regard this as a significant step forward in bringing older people̢?Ts issues right to the centre of Government policy-making.
