Spermiogenesis and spermatozoon ultrastructure of the dilepidid cestode Molluscotaenia crassiscolex (von Linstow, 1890), an intestinal parasite of the common shrew Sorex araneus

Spermiogenesis in Molluscotaenia crassiscolex begins with the formation of a differentiation zone containing two centrioles. One of the centrioles develops a flagellum directly into the cytoplasmic extension. The nucleus elongates and later migrates along the spermatid body. During advanced stages of spermiogenesis, a periaxonemal sheath appears in the spermatid. Spermiogenesis finishes with the appearance of a single helicoidal crested body at the base of the spermatid and, finally, the narrowing of the ring of arched membranes causes the detachment of the fully formed spermatozoon. The mature spermatozoon of M. crassiscolex exhibits a partially detached crested body in the anterior region of the spermatozoon, one axoneme, twisted cortical microtubules, a periaxonemal sheath, and a spiralled nucleus. The anterior spermatozoon extremity is characterized by the presence of an electron-dense apical cone and a single spiralled crested body, which is attached to the sperm cell in the anterior and posterior areas of region I, whereas in the middle area it is partially detached from the cell. This crested body is described for the first time in cestodes. The posterior extremity of the male gamete exhibits only the disorganizing axoneme. Results are discussed and compared particularly with the available ultrastructural data on dilepidids sensu lato.

A Pragmatic Intellectual: Dutch Fabians, Boekman, and Cultural Policy in the Netherlands, 1890-1940

Around 1900, the notion of community art (gemeenschapskunst) served to crystallize Dutch social democratic thinking about the role of the arts in society. Drawing on the pragmatism of leading social democrats like Wibaut, and drawing on his formal education in economics and statistics, the self‐made social democrat Emanuel Boekman redressed the utopian meaning of community art to signify the dissemination of "good" culture over all layers of society in his influential 1939 dissertation on the relation of the state to the arts. Being about facts rather than opinions, Boekman set the boundaries of his work to exclude a substantial discussion of the meaning of "good" culture. On the one hand, this pragmatism helped Boekman to gain support for government intervention for the arts over most of the political spectrum. On the other hand, Boekman thus pre‐empted discussions about the tension between "quality" and "accessibility" of the arts that haunts cultural policy in the Netherlands to this day.

Strong decline in the consumption of invertebrates by barn owls from 1860 to 2012 in Europe

Capsule The analysis of 616 papers about the diet of the European Barn Owl Tyto alba showed that 9678 invertebrates were captured out of 3.13 million prey items (0.31%). The consumption of invertebrates strongly decreased between 1860 and 2012. This further demonstrates that the Barn Owl diet changed to a large extent during the last 150 years.

Evolució del poblament a Ciutadella de Menorca (1860-2013). La revolució turística

El present treball de final de grau tracta el tema de l’evolució del poblament del municipi de Ciutadella de Menorca i la seva contextualització a les Illes Balears, gràcies al Nomenclàtor del 1860. Per tal de realitzar un estudi aproximat del que pot haver passat, s’han pres tres moments històrics de referència: el 1860, el 1957 i l’actualitat. D’aquesta manera, amb la observació dels canvis en el poblament i la seva relació amb la població, m’he adonat de la tendència creixent d’aquests indicadors, els quals sofrien un canvi de tendència al voltant dels anys seixanta tot augmentat de forma accelerada. La causa d’aquest augment es troba relacionada amb l’aparició del turisme de masses, que va atreure tant immigració interessada en la gran oferta de treball, com turistes interessats en gaudir d’allò que Menorca –i el municipi en qüestió- els oferia. Parlem llavors d’una “revolució turística”.

Infraestructuras y desarrollo económico en España, 1860-1936

Durante el último medio siglo se ha producido un movimiento constante de aproximación entre las economías que hoy forman la Unión Europea. Tan sólo algunas escasas y pasajeras vacilaciones han enturbiado un proceso que ha sido intenso y persistente. El fenómeno en sí mismo ha constituido la mejor confirmación de la teoría del crecimiento neoclásica, según la cual, cuando un conjunto de economías con rasgos estructurales relativamente similares inicia un proceso de integración, es de esperar un movimiento de convergencia entre sus niveles de renta per cápita. Sin embargo, la experiencia de este pasado inmediato contrasta con momentos más remotos en el tiempo, en los cuales el incremento de intercambios entre las economías europeas no se tradujo en absoluto en una aproximación mutua. A lo largo del medio siglo anterior a la Primera Guerra Mundial, a pesar de la intensa profundización en sus relaciones, las economías europeas adolecieron de una marcada incapacidad para converger entre sí. La economía española, en concreto, mantuvo inalterada su distancia relativa con respecto a los países más desarrollados de Europa y fue incapaz de adelantarse mínimamente en la carrera del crecimiento.
