Report on BOBLME Indian mackerel genetic data analysis including final workshop, Phuket, Thailand, 17-19 February 2015

This workshop followed on from two previous workshops held in Colombo, Sri Lanka, 2012 and Kochi, India in 2013. The 14 microsattellite markers had previously been developed for Indian Mackerel (Rastrelliger kanagurta) were used on 31 tissue collections from all eight countries were genotyped in India.

The Socio-economic Monitoring (SocMon) training workshop followed up from the capacity building workshop held in Mannar, 2015. It's aims were to validate information collected at the previous workshop, assist in filling in any gaps and develop a vision tree fro future actions. Planned outputs included: a detailed workplan; a workshop process report; and a final socioeconomic base line report for Vidathaltivu village.

Report of the Workshop on Marine Protected Area Management in Myanmar, Myeik, Myanmar, 2-3 October, 2014

The objectives of the workshop included: an overview of the biophysical characteristics of the Myeik Archipelago; strengthen understanding of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) management to mitigate resource use conflicts; share lessons and experiences of MPA management from the Asia-Pacific region; and to identify a road map for developing MPA management in the Myeik Archipelago.
