Charm Production in Antiproton-Proton Annihilation

We study the production of charmed mesons (D) and baryons (Lambda(c)) in antiproton- proton ((p) over barp) annihilation close to their respective production thresholds. The elementary charm production process is described by either baryon/ meson exchange or by quark/ gluon dynamics. Effects of the interactions in the initial and final states are taken into account rigorously. The calculations are performed in close analogy to our earlier study on (p) over bar -> (Lambda) over bar Lambda and (p) over barp (K) over bar K by connecting the processes via SU(4) flavor symmetry. Our predictions for the (Lambda) over bar (c)Lambda(c) production cross section are in the order of 1 to 7 mb, i. e. a factor of around 10-70 smaller than the corresponding cross sections for (Lambda) over bar Lambda However, they are 100 to 1000 times larger than predictions of other model calculations in the literature. on the other hand, the resulting cross sections for (D) over barD production are found to be in the order of 10(-2) - 10(-1)mu b and they turned out to be comparable to those obtained in other studies.

Measurement of the ratios of the Z/gamma*+ >= n jet production cross sections to the total inclusive Z/gamma* cross section in p(p)over-bar collisions at root s=1.96 TeV

We present a study of events with Z bosons and associated jets produced at the Fermilab Tevatron collider in p p collisions at a center of mass energy of 1.96 TeV The data sample consists of nearly 14000 Z/gamma* -> e(+)e(-) candidates corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 0.4 fb(-1) collected with the D circle divide detector. Ratios of the Z/gamma*+ >= n jet cross sections to the total inclusive Z/gamma* cross section have been measured for n = 1-4 jets, and found to be in good agreement with a next-to-leading order QCD calculation and with a tree-level QCD prediction with parton shower simulation and hadronization. Measurement of gamma + b + X and gamma + c + X Production Cross Sections in pp > Collisions at s=1.96 TeV

First measurements of the differential cross sections d(3)sigma/(dp(T)(gamma)dy(gamma)dy(jet)) for the inclusive production of a photon in association with a heavy quark (b, c) jet are presented, covering photon transverse momenta 30 < p(T)(gamma)< 150 GeV, photon rapidities |y(gamma)|< 1.0, jet rapidities |y(jet)|< 0.8, and jet transverse momenta p(T)(jet)> 15 GeV. The results are based on an integrated luminosity of 1 fb(-1) in pp collisions at s=1.96 TeV recorded with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The results are compared with next-to-leading order perturbative QCD predictions.
