Crustal discontinuities may be seen as A-type collision sutures with triple junction arrays. Shear belts developed at the block borders due to oblique plate convergence. A consistent litho-structural zoning may be observed along the border zones of the blocks: the known high-grade terrains are exposed along the upper block border and pass to distal granite-greenstone terrains; in the lower block, granite-greenstone terrains form the older basement, and supracrustals occur as a metavolcano-sedimentary belt near or adjacent to the suture. This regional litho-structural framework may be related to diachronous collisions of sialic masses which lead to their amalgamation into an extensive continental mass. -from English summary

Testing anomalous Higgs couplings in triple photon production at the Tevatron collider

We derive bounds on Higgs and gauge-boson anomalous interactions using the CDF data for the process pp̄ → γγγ + X. We use a linearly realized SU L(2) X U Y(1) invariant effective Lagrangian to describe the bosonic sector of the Standard Model, keeping the fermionic couplings unchanged. All dimension-six operators that lead to anomalous Higgs interactions involving γ and Z are considered. We also show the sensitivity that can be achieved for these couplings at Fermilab Tevatron upgrades. © 1998 Published by Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Indirect constraints on the triple gauge boson couplings from Z → bb partial width: An update

We update the indirect bounds on anomalous triple gauge couplings coming from the non-universal one-loop contributions to the Z → bb width. These bounds, which are independent of the Higgs boson mass, are in agreement with the standard model predictions for the gauge boson self-couplings since the present value of R(b) agrees fairly well with the theoretical estimates. Moreover, these indirect constraints on Δg(Z)/1 and g(Z)/5 are most stringent than the present direct bounds on these quantities, while the indirect limit on λ(Z) is weaker than the available experimental data.

Border detection in digital images: An approach by fuzzy numbers

The purpose of this paper is to introduce a new approach for edge detection in gray shaded images. The proposed approach is based on the fuzzy number theory. The idea is to deal with the uncertainties concerning the gray shades making up the image, and thus calculate the appropriateness of the pixels in relation to an homogeneous region around them. The pixels not belonging to the region are then classified as border pixels. The results have shown that the technique is simple, computationally efficient and with good results when compared with both the traditional border detectors and the fuzzy edge detectors. © 2007 IEEE.

The aster mission: Exploring for the first time a triple system asteroid

2001 SN263 is a triple system asteroid. Although it was discovery in 2001, in 2008 astronomical observation carried out by Arecibo observatory revealed that it is actually a system with three bodies orbiting each other. The main central body is an irregular object with a diameter about 2.8 km, while the other two are small objects with less than 1 km across. This system presents an orbital eccentricity of 0.47, with perihelion of 1.04 and aphelion of 1.99, which means that it can be considered as a Near Earth Object. This interesting system was chosen as the target for the Aster mission - first Brazilian space exploration undertaking. A small spacecraft with 150 kg of total mass, 30 kg of payload with 110 W available for the instruments, is scheduled to be launched in 2015, and in 2018 it will approach and will be put in orbit of the triple system. This spacecraft will use electric propulsion and in its payload it will carry image camera, laser rangefinder, infrared spectrometer, mass spectrometer, and experiments to be performed in its way to the asteroid. This mission represents a great challenge for the Brazilian space program. It is being structured to allow the full engagement of the Brazilian universities and technological companies in all the necessary developments to be carried out. In this paper, we present some aspects of this mission, including the transfer trajectories to be used, and details of buss and payload subsystems that are being developed and will be used. Border crossings in Mercosur countries: obstacles and their cost

In a recent ECLAC study of inefficiency at border crossings in Mercosur countries, it was found that the cost of delays in traffic between Argentina and Brazil amounted to a minimum of US$ 170 per truck for the most problematic border crossing. This is over 10 % higher than the typical price of freight between Buenos Aires and Sao Paulo or Porto Alegre. It was estimated that the extra-cost on this border crossing may amount to a maximum of US$ 273 per truck. These problems, which have to do more with organization than with infrastructure, cause serious losses to the sectors involved in international transport, and especially to end users of intermediate or consumer goods transported.This edition of the Bulletin includes a summary of a study entitled: Identificación de obstáculos al transporte terrestre internacional de cargas en el Mercosur: los casos de Argentina, Brasil y Uruguay.

Análise e desempenho de tráfego triple play em redes PLC de baixa tensão

Este trabalho faz uma análise de desempenho de aplicações triple play através da tecnologia Power Line Communication, fazendo uma abordagem direcionada para qualidade de serviço e qualidade de experiência. Apresenta resultados obtidos em cenários residenciais onde o uso desta tecnologia como última milha mostra-se uma solução passível de implementação diante dos testes realizados com transmissões de chamadas VoIP, transmissões de vídeo em alta definição e dados. O conceito de rede doméstica, interligando todos os pontos de uma casa, vem representando um novo rumo na definição de um padrão global, no qual a transmissão de dados por meio da fiação elétrica será uma das tecnologias empregadas e de maior destaque. Também será mostrado o desempenho das métricas avaliadas como jitter, largura de banda, perda de pacotes, PSNR, MOS, VQM, SSIM e suas correlações.
