The draft Framework set out the proposed priorities for Northern Ireland's energy future over the next ten years or so and illustrates the key energy goals in term of competitiveness, security of energy supply, sustainablilty and infrastructure investment. It also proposes new and ambitious renewable electricity and renewable heat targets by 2020, which reflect the need for effected action against climate change and the need to address other policy goals in terms of security and sustainability of supply and costs.

Viatge al món de les flautes és un material didà ctic dirigit a grups de nivell elemental de l’aula de flauta travessera que planteja una introducció a les músiques tradicionals d’arreu del món. Alhora conté una proposta de concert familiar. Els objectius generals del present treball són donar a conèixer la gran famÃlia de les flautes juntament amb el seu repertori i fer una recerca pedagògica a l’entorn d’aquest per aplicar-lo a l’aula. La metodologia ha partit d'un treball de camp sobre diverses flautes d’arreu del món, en base al qual s'ha elaborat el concert i diverses propostes didà ctiques per treballar a l’aula. Aquest projecte pretén aportar un ventall de noves eines per utilitzar en la docència.

L’Hipercolesterolèmia Familiar Heterozigota (HFHe) és una malaltia monogènica que predisposa a una major morbimortalitat cardiovascular. Aquest estudi prospectiu de casos i controls pretén avaluar la prevalença de Malaltia Arteroscleròtica Coronaria (MAC) silent mitjançant una coronariografia no invasiva per TAC Multidetector i estudiar la relació amb diferents variables clÃniques i analÃtiques. La prevalença mostral i extensió de MAC silent en malalts amb HFHe va ser superior respecte al grup control. Les variables estadÃsticament significatives per a predir la presència de lesions coronà ries varen ser: sexe masculÃ, edat avançada, HDL i l’antecedent familiar de miocardiopatia isquèmica

In line with its statutory brief, the Women's Health Council commissioned research to evaluate progress in achieving the objectives of the Department of Health and Children's 1997 Plan for Women's Health 1997-1999 the Plan) at national and regional level. This was used as the basis of a critique of the effectiveness of the implementation of the Plan to date and the development of proposals for:- building on the achievements to date- ensuring a dynamic role for the structures established as a result of the Plan, especially the regional Womenâ?Ts Health Advisory Committees (WHACs)- securing measurable health gain for women over the next 7-10 years.  Download document here

Els objectius van ser avaluar prospectivament la capacitat diagnòstica de la cà psula endoscòpica en comparació amb la colonoscòpia en 30 pacients amb història familiar de CCR, i avaluar la neteja colònica amb preparació amb Moviprep. La prevalença de pòlips detectats amb cà psula i colonoscòpia va ser de 20,7% i 24,1%, respectivament. La sensibilitat i especificitat en detecció de pòlips va ser de 71, 4 i 95,4%, respectivament, amb VPP i VPN de 83,3 i 91,3%. Es conclou que la cà psula endoscòpica suposa una tècnica alternativa precisa, fiable, ben tolerada i segura pel cribatge familiar de CCR.

Both reproduction and parasite defense can be costly, and an animal may face a trade-off between investing in offspring or in parasite defense. In contrast to the findings from nonexperimental studies that the poorly reproducing individuals are often the ones with high parasite loads, this life-history view predicts that individuals with high reproductive investment will show high parasite prevalence. Here we provide an experimental confirmation of a positive association between parental investment levels of male great tits Parus major and the prevalence of Plasmodium spp, a hematozoa causing malaria in various bird species. We manipulated brood size, measured feeding effort of both males and females, and assessed the prevalence of the hemoparasite from blood smears. In enlarged broods the males, but not the females, showed significantly higher rates of food provisioning to the chicks, and the rate of malarial infection was found to be more than double in male, but not female, parents of enlarged broods. The findings show that there may be a trade-off between reproductive effort and parasite defense of the host and also suggest a mechanism for the well documented trade-off between current reproductive effort and parental survival.

The experience described here is part of an extensive program that aims to stimulate schools to develop health integrated projects from theme generators, i.e., themes that have a meaning for the community. It was developed in Jaboticatubas, a town in the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte, capital of the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, and the focus was schistosomiasis. The selection was based on the expressive and historical prevalence of this disease in the county, which has been known as the "capital of schistosomiasis", in a national press release since the 1960's. Schistosomiasis is also a theme pointed out by teachers as requiring more information and methodologies to work with their students, most of them living in areas of high risk of transmission. In addition, during the last years, this disease has been transmitted silently through an increasing rural tourism in that region, requiring integrated and effective control actions. The developed strategy included four schools, whose teachers, students, and families took part in the process. It emphasizes in a critical pedagogy approach, which focuses on health issues as themes that may mobilize the school community and awake the population to a work which integrates environment, health, and citizenship. The results demonstrate that teachers and students not only acquired new knowledge and methodological skills, but also gained confidence in their ability to improve their health conditions. Thus, the project promotes a critical education that can result a more permanent effect on the control of schistosomiasis as well as other benefits for the schools and for the population.

Many life-history traits are expressed interactively in life, but to a varying extent on different occasions. Changes in trait expression can be accounted for by differences in the quality of the environment ('environmental constraint' hypothesis) or by strategic adjustments, if the relative contribution of the trait to fitness varies with time ('strategic allocation' hypothesis). In birds, egg production is lower in replacement clutches than in first clutches, but it is unknown whether this reduction results from an environmental constraint (e.g. food being less available at the time when the replacement clutch is produced) or from a strategic allocation of resources between the two breeding attempts. To distinguish between these two hypotheses, we performed an experiment with black-legged kittiwakes (Rissa tridactyla). Pairs were either food-supplemented or not before the first clutch was laid onwards and we induced them to produce a replacement clutch by removing eggs once when the first clutch was complete. As predicted by the 'strategic allocation' hypothesis, egg production of food-supplemented and non-food-supplemented birds decreased between first and replacement clutches. This suggests that kittiwakes strategically reduce investment in egg production for their replacement clutches compared to first clutches.

The higher education sector has become increasingly competitive and prospective students are adopting a consumerist approach to institution and programme choice. In response, higher education marketing has become more complex, market-oriented and business-like. Financial sustainability of open education resource (OER) projects is a widespread concern. This paper explores the extent to which a classical product placement framework can be applied to OERs to justify institutional funding in OER projects as a marketing investment. It is argued that OERs designed on this premise can increase cognitive, affective and conative brand outcomes while providing the traditional educational and societal benefits associated with OERs. A series of propositions are presented that may form the basis of a future research agenda.

Aquest projecte es centre en el disseny d’ un programari creador iconsultor de genealogia familiar. Es tracta d'un programari per a ús individual, no col.lectiu, i sense à nimde lucre, on les dades més importants són les dels familiars. Qualsevol usuari pot crear diversesfamÃlies (en un mateix sistema) i associar-hi familiars. Es poden introduir molts tipus de dadespersonals, a més de poder vincular-hi els arxius i events que es desitgin. Un event és unaconteixament en la vida d'una o diverses persones. D'aquesta manera l'usuari pot agregar moltstipus d'esdeveniments diferents als familiars i també hi ha la opció, que diferencia l'aplicació demoltes altres ja existents, d'agregar esdeveniments als events. També cal destacar que a cadafamiliar, arxiu i event pot associar-se un lloc (poblacio, regió i estat) i d'aquesta forma la informaciótotal que es pot generar, encara és encara més completa. La possibilitat de crear llocs nous és forçaà mplia. Finalment l'usuari podrà associar els diferents familiars segons parentesc i d'aquesta formaobtenir un arbre genealògic de tota la famÃlia. Un dels aspectes més treballats a l'aplicació, ha estat que totes les dades anteriorment esmentades, poguessin ser visualitzades fà cil i rà pidament per l'usuari final. La navegació entrepantalles i les diferents opcions, han estat pensades i dissenyades, perquè l'usuari final no tingui cap dificultat, sigui quin sigui el seu nivell. D'aquesta manera, a més de la gestió possible de dades de familiars, arxius, events i llocs; la utilització de le mateixes i la creació de multitud de vistes i cerques diferents, ajuden a que el programari sigui força complet

L’educació ambiental a Catalunya i, en concret a les comarques gironines, compta amb una certa tradició. Són diversos els equipaments que, de mica en mica, han anat oferint a les escoles la possibilitat de fer un aprenentatge directe i experimental de les Ciències Naturals i Socials, tot oferint als centres allò que la seva infraestructura no els permet obtenir o allò que el seu context geogrà fic els impedeix conèixer. Doncs la ciutat de Banyoles i la seva comarca, el Pla de l’Estany, constitueixen una zona de gran interès paisatgÃstic i natural, a més de cultural i artÃstic, que comporten un gran nombre de possibilitats didà ctiques ja que el propi medi ofereix un ampli ventall de recursos pedagògics. Per això, amb l’interès de fer conèixer als escolars de Catalunya la riquesa de la comarca i de recolzar amb l'experiència directa el treball de l'aula, va néixer l’Escola de Natura de Banyoles (d’ara endavant EdNB)

BACKGROUND The concept of achievement is important to study the professional development. In medicine there are gender inequalities in career. The purpose was to know and compare the professional achievement's perceptions and attributions of female and male primary care physicians in Andalusia. METHOD Qualitative study with 12 focus groups (October 2009 to November 2010). POPULATION primary care physicians. SAMPLE intentionally segmented by age, sex and health care management. Were conducted by sex: two groups with young physicians, two groups with middle aged and two with health care management. TOTAL: 32 female physician and 33 male physicians. Qualitative content analysis with Nuddist Vivo. RESULTS Female and male physicians agree to perceive internal achievements and to consider aspects inherent to the profession as external achievements. The most important difference is that female physician related professional achievement with affective bond and male physician with institutional merit. Internal attributions are more important for female physician who also highlight the importance of family, the organization of working time and work-family balance. Patients, continuing education, institutional resources and computer system are the most important attributions for male physician. CONCLUSIONS There are similarities and differences between female and male physicians both in the understanding and the attributions of achievement. The differences are explained by the gender system. The perception of achievement of the female physicians questions the dominant professional culture and incorporates new values in defining achievement. The attributions reflect the unequal impact of family and organizational variables and suggest that the female physicians would be changing gender socialization.
