The Francoist rule, mainly in its first decades, exerted a strong control upon education, which was left in the hands of the Catholic nationalist. Innumerous children`s schoolbooks were published driven by strong patriotic and religious bias. The authors aimed to shape the children`s minds based on the premises that supported the regimen: authority, hierarchy, order, abeyance, fear and devotion to God and the leader Francisco Franco. This paper analyzes the content of the elementary education books and shows how they were important instruments of child indoctrination marked by intolerance. The content and the images of the books contributed to construct an excluding national identity based on a heightened Catholic patriotism, stimulated heroism, martyrdom, child sacrifice, and hatred for the enemies of the religion and of ""mother Spain"".

This commentary argues that empirically validated treatments for child and youth behaviour and emotional difficulties are available, but they are relatively inaccessible to the vast majority of Australian children and their families. Although effective interventions have been developed, few children receive these services. There are many children who have identifiable problems or who are at increased risk for psychosocial problems whose needs have not been adequately addressed by either the research or the professional community. These include children in rural and remote areas, Aboriginal and Tones Strait Islander children, children of migrants, and children with chronic physical illnesses. A comprehensive, preventively focused clinical science of prevention is needed to improve the reach and impact of psychological services for children.

Introduction: Churg-Strauss syndrome (CSS) is a systemic granulomatous vasculitis rarely described in children, particularly associated with neurological involvement, exceptionally chorea. To our knowledge there are only 35 children and adolescent patients with CSS described in the literature. During a 25-year period 5283 patients were followed up at the Pediatric Rheumatology Unit of our University Hospital and only one (0.02%) presented CSS. Case report: A 7-year-old boy suffered from severe asthma, eosinophilia, history of allergy, recurrent non-fixed pulmonary infiltrates, several nodular lesions in both lungs and maxillary sinusitis. Transthoracic biopsy of the right lung revealed necrotizing extravascular eosinophilic infiltrates and the diagnosis of CSS was established. During the follow-up he had persistent vasculitis skin lesions and hemichorea. Despite the treatment with immunosuppressive drugs and intravenous immunoglobulin, he died because of pulmonary abscess and sepsis. Discussion: A rare case of CSS with chorea was reported, reinforcing the possibility of this disease in children with asthma, allergic rhinitis, hypereosinophilia and cutaneous vasculitis.

This article aims to evaluate the role of drug consumption among sexual offenders against females. Three groups of participants (N = 133) comprising sexual offenders against girls, pubertal females, and women were examined with reference to history of drug and/or alcohol use, impulsivity level, sexual addiction, and recidivism risk. Sexual offenders against women were found to have significantly more difficulties with drug use, higher impulsivity level, and to be younger than the sexual offenders against girls and pubertal females. The combination of drug consumption and higher level of impulsivity may contribute to sexual aggression against adult females.

Neurological findings in a three-year-old child with meroacrania provide new insights into how the nervous system develops and functions in the absence of superior levels of control from the time of origin. The girl is the first child of a non-consanguineous white Brazilian couple, born at term, weighing 2650 g and measuring 44 cm in length. Upon examination at 43 months, she had quadriplegia, global hypotonia with occasional body hypertonia in a decorticate posture, hyperreflexia, ankle clonus, and extensor plantar response. This case allowed us to verify that, in the absence of upper structures and subcortical nuclei, there are clear signs that suggest corticospinal primacy in motor functions without a substitute pathway. Sound orientation responses suggest the independence of the vestibular-acoustic-ocular system, and manifestations of responsiveness to the environment raise questions about consciousness. We report the case of a 9-year-old boy with portal hypertension, due to Budd-Chiari syndrome, and retrohepatic inferior vena cava thrombosis, submitted to a transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) by connecting the suprahepatic segment of the inferior vena cava directly to the portal vein. After 3 months, the withdrawal of anticoagulants promoted the thrombosis of the TIPS. At TIPS revision, thrombosis of the TIPS and the main portal vein and clots at the splenic and the superior mesenteric veins were found. Successful angiography treatment was performed by thrombolysis and balloon angioplasty of a severe stenosis at the distal edge of the stent.
