'Unthinkable II' is an installation integrating a large scale fabric work along with a lecture performance, recorded as a digital video. This work critically examines the engendering of language in relation to histories of conceptual art and abstract painting, reframing material language as part of a broader practice strategy to re-perform a subjective feminist archive. This installation was developed and presented as a solo exhibition for Blindside Gallery, Melbourne in 2015.

Neutral and cationic organometallic ruthenium(II) piano stool complexes of the type [(eta(6)-cymene)R-uCl(X)(Y)] (complexes R1-R8) has been synthesized and characterized. In cationic complexes, X, Y is either a eta(2) phosphorus ligand such as 1,1-bis(diphenylphosphino)methane (DPPM) and 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane (DPPE) or partially oxidized ligands such as 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)methane monooxide (DPPMO) and 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane monooxide (DPPEO) which are strong hydrogen bond acceptors. In neutral complexes. X is chloride and Y is a monodentate phosphorous donor. Complexes with DPPM and DPPMO ligands ([(eta(6)-cymene)Ru(eta(2)-DPPM)Cl]PF6 (R2), [(eta(6)-cymene)Ru(eta(2)-DPPMO)Cl]PF6 (R3), [(eta(6)-cymene)Ru(eta(1)-DPPM)Cl-2] (R5) and [(eta(6)-cymene)Ru(eta(1)-DPPMO)Cl-2] (R6) show good cytotoxicity. Growth inhibition study of several human cancer cell lines by these complexes has been carried out. Mechanistic studies for R5 and R6 show that inhibition of cancer cell growth involves both cell cycle arrest and apoptosis induction. Using an apoptosis PCR array, we identified the sets of antiapoptotic genes that were down regulated and pro-apoptotic genes that were up regulated. These complexes were also found to be potent metastasis inhibitors as they prevented cell invasion through matrigel. The complexes were shown to bind DNA in a non intercalative fashion and cause unwinding of plasmid DNA in cell-free medium by competitive ethidium bromide binding, viscosity measurements, thermal denaturation and gel mobility shift assays.

DNA topoisomerases are ubiquitous nuclear enzymes that govern the topological interconversions of DNA by transiently breaking/rejoining the phosphodiester backbone of one (type I) or both (type II) strands of the double helix. Consistent with these functions, topoisomerases play key roles in many aspects of DNA metabolism. Type II DNA topoisomerase (topo II) is vital for various nuclear processes, including DNA replication, chromosome segregation, and maintenance of chromosome structure. Topo II expression is regulated at multiple stages, including transcriptional, posttranscriptional, and posttranslational levels, by a multitude of signaling factors. Topo II is also the cellular target for a variety of clinically relevant anti-tumor drugs. Despite significant progress in our understanding of the role of topo II in diverse nuclear processes, several important aspects of topo II function, expression, and regulation are poorly understood. We have focused this review specifically on eukaryotic DNA topoisomerase II, with an emphasis on functional and regulatory characteristics.

Pivaloyl-L-Pro-Aib-N-methylamihdaes been shown to possess one intramolecular hydrogen bond in (CD&SO solution, by 'H-nmr methods, suggesting the existence of p-turns, with Pro-Aib as the corner residues. Theoretical conformational analysis suggests that Type II P-turn conformations are about 2 kcal mol-' more stable than Type 111 structures. A crystallographic study has established the Type I1 /%turn in the solid state. The molecule crystallizes in the space group P21 with a = 5.865 8, b = 11.421 A, c = 12.966 A, /3 = 97.55", and 2 = 2. The structure has been refined to a final R value of 0.061. The Type I1 p-turn conformation is stabilized by an intramolecular 4 - 1 hydrogen bond between the methylamide NH and the pivaloyl CO group. The conformational angles are @pro= -57.8", $pro = 139.3', @Aib = 61.4', and $Ajb = 25.1'. The Type 11 /%turn conformation for Pro-Aib in this peptide is compared with the Type I11 structures observed for the same segment in larger peptides.

This study is part of an ongoing collaborative bipolar research project, the Jorvi Bipolar Study (JoBS). The JoBS is run by the Department of Mental Health and Alcohol Research of the National Public Health Institute, Helsinki, and the Department of Psychiatry, Jorvi Hospital, Helsinki University Central Hospital (HUCH), Espoo, Finland. It is a prospective, naturalistic cohort study of secondary level care psychiatric in- and outpatients with a new episode of bipolar disorder (BD). The second report also included 269 major depressive disorder (MDD) patients from the Vantaa Depression Study (VDS). The VDS was carried out in collaboration with the Department of Psychiatry of the Peijas Medical Care District. Using the Mood Disorder Questionnaire (MDQ), all in- and outpatients at the Department of Psychiatry at Jorvi Hospital who currently had a possible new phase of DSM-IV BD were sought. Altogether, 1630 psychiatric patients were screened, and 490 were interviewed using a semistructured interview (SCID-I/P). The patients included in the cohort (n=191) had at intake a current phase of BD. The patients were evaluated at intake and at 6- and 18-month interviews. Based on this study, BD is poorly recognized even in psychiatric settings. Of the BD patients with acute worsening of illness, 39% had never been correctly diagnosed. The classic presentations of BD with hospitalizations, manic episodes, and psychotic symptoms lead clinicians to correct diagnosis of BD I in psychiatric care. Time of follow-up elapsed in psychiatric care, but none of the clinical features, seemed to explain correct diagnosis of BD II, suggesting reliance on cross- sectional presentation of illness. Even though BD II was clearly less often correctly diagnosed than BD I, few other differences between the two types of BD were detected. BD I and II patients appeared to differ little in terms of clinical picture or comorbidity, and the prevalence of psychiatric comorbidity was strongly related to the current illness phase in both types. At the same time, the difference in outcome was clear. BD II patients spent about 40% more time depressed than BD I patients. Patterns of psychiatric comorbidity of BD and MDD differed somewhat qualitatively. Overall, MDD patients were likely to have more anxiety disorders and cluster A personality disorders, and bipolar patients to have more cluster B personality disorders. The adverse consequences of missing or delayed diagnosis are potentially serious. Thus, these findings strongly support the value of screening for BD in psychiatric settings, especially among the major depressive patients. Nevertheless, the diagnosis must be based on a clinical interview and follow-up of mood. Comorbidity, present in 59% of bipolar patients in a current phase, needs concomitant evaluation, follow-up, and treatment. To improve outcome in BD, treatment of bipolar depression is a major challenge for clinicians.

In each of the zinc(II) complexes bis(acetylacetonato-kappa(2)O,O')(1,10-phenanthroline-kappa(2)N,N')zinc(II), [Zn(C(5)H(7)O(2))(2)(C(12)H(8)N(2))], (I), and bis(acetylacetonato-kappa(2)O,O')(2,2'-bipyridine-kappa(2)N,N')zinc(II), [Zn(C(5)H(7)O(2))(2)(C(10)H(8)N(2))], (II), the metal center has a distorted octahedral coordination geometry. Compound (I) has crystallographically imposed twofold symmetry, with Z' = 0.5. The presence of a rigid phenanthroline group precludes intramolecular hydrogen bonding, whereas the rather flexible bipyridyl ligand is twisted to form an intramolecular C-H...O interaction [the chelated bipyridyl ligand is nonplanar, with the pyridyl rings inclined at an angle of 13.4 (1) degrees]. The two metal complexes are linked by dissimilar C-H...O interactions into one-dimensional chains. The present study demonstrates the distinct effects of two commonly used ligands, viz. 1,10-phenanthroline and 2,2'-bipyridine, on the structures of metal complexes and their assembly.

Inosine 5' monophosphate dehydrogenase (IMPDH II) is a key enzyme involved in the de novo biosynthesis pathway of purine nucleotides and is also considered to be an excellent target for cancer inhibitor design. The conserve R 322 residue (in human) is thought to play some role in the recognition of inhibitor and cofactor through the catalytic D 364 and N 303. The 15 ns simulation and the water dynamics of the three different PDB structures (1B3O, 1NF7, and 1NFB) of human IMPDH by CHARMM force field have clearly indicated the involvement of three conserved water molecules (W-L, W-M, and W-C) in the recognition of catalytic residues (R 322, D 364, and N 303) to inhibitor and cofactor. Both the guanidine nitrogen atoms (NH1 and NH 2) of the R 322 have anchored the di- and mono-nucleotide (cofactor and inhibitor) binding domains via the conserved W-C and W-L water molecules. Another conserved water molecule W-M seems to bridge the two domains including the R 322 and also the W-C and W-L through seven centers H-bonding coordination. The conserved water molecular triad (W-C - W-M - W-L) in the protein complex may thought to play some important role in the recognition of inhibitor and cofactor to the protein through R 322 residue.

Anion directed, template syntheses of two dinuclear copper(II) complexes of mono-condensed Schiff base ligand Hdipn (4-[(3-aminopentylimino)-methyl]-benzene-1,3-diol) involving 2,4- dihydroxybenzaldehyde and 1,3-diaminopentane were realized in the presence of bridging azide and acetate anions. Both complexes, [Cu-2(dipn)(2)(N-3)(2)] (1) and [Cu-2(dip(n))(2)(OAc)(2)] (2) have been characterized by X-ray crystallography. The two mononuclear units are joined together by basal-apical, double end-on azido bridges in complex 1 and by basal-apical, double mono-atomic acetate oxygen-bridges in 2. Both complexes form rectangular grid-like supramolecular structures via H-bonds connecting the azide or acetate anion and the p-hydroxy group of 2,4- dihydroxybenzaldehyde. Variable-temperature (300-2 K) magnetic susceptibility measurements reveal that complex 1 has antiferromagnetic coupling (J = -2.10 cm (1)) through the azide bridge while 2 has intra-dimer ferromagnetic coupling through the acetate bridge and inter-dimer antiferromagnetic coupling through H-bonds (J = 2.85 cm (1), J' = -1.08 cm (1)). Two binuclear copper(II) complexes one (complex 1) with a macrocyclic ligand (H(2)L1) and other (complex 2) with a macroacyclic (end-off type) compartmental ligand (HL2) have been synthesized from single pot template synthesis involving copper(II) nitrate, 1,2diaminoethane, 4-methyl-2,6-diformylphenol, and sodium azide. Structure analysis of complex I reveals that there are actually two half molecules present in the asymmetric unit and so two complexes (molecule-I and molecule-II) are present in unit cell, although they show slight differences. The two Cu(II) centers are in distorted square pyramidal coordination environment with two endogenous phenoxo bridges provided by the phenolate of H(2)L1 I having Cu-Cu separations of 2.9133(10) angstrom and 2.9103(10) in the two molecules. In complex 2 the coordination environments around two Cu(II) centers are asymmetric, Cu1 is in distorted square pyramidal environment whereas, the coordination environment around Cu2 is distorted octahedral. The two Cu(II) centers in complex 2 are connected by two different kinds of bridges, one is endogenous phenoxo bridge provided by the phenolate of the ligand HL2 and the other is exogenous azido bridge (mu-(1),(l) type) with Cu-Cu distance of 3.032(10) angstrom. Variable temperature magnetic studies show that two Cu(II) centers in both the complexes are strongly antiferromagnetically coupled with J = -625 +/- 5 cm(-1) and J = -188.6 +/- 1cm(-1) for complex 1 and 2, respectively. Blue [{Cu(2,2'-bipy)(2)}(2){alpha-SiW12O40}] (bipy = bipyridyl) (1) and pale yellow [Mn(2,2'-bipy)(3)](2)[alpha-SiW12O40] (2) have been synthesized hydrothermally and characterized by IR spectroscopy and single crystal X-ray structure analysis. In 1, the [alpha-SiW12O40](4-) ion acts as a bridge between the two [{Cu(2,2'-bipy)(2)](2+) moieties via coordination through the terminal oxygen atoms, while in 2, the [Mn(2,2'-bipy)(3)](2+) ion balances the charge on the polyoxo anion without forming any covalent bond. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first example of transition metal-mediated transformation of [alpha-SiW9O34](10-) to [alpha-SiW12O40](4-).

We consider single-source, single-sink (ss-ss) multi-hop relay networks, with slow-fading Rayleigh links. This two part paper aims at giving explicit protocols and codes to achieve the optimal diversity-multiplexing tradeoff (DMT) of two classes of multi-hop networks: K-parallel-path (KPP) networks and Layered networks. While single-antenna KPP networks were the focus of the first part, we consider layered and multi-antenna networks in this second part. We prove that a linear DMT between the maximum diversity d(max). and the maximum multiplexing gain of 1 is achievable for single-antenna fully-connected layered networks under the half-duplex constraint. This is shown to be equal to the optimal DMT if the number of relaying layers is less than 4. For the multiple-antenna case, we provide an achievable DMT, which is significantly better than known lower bounds for half duplex networks. Along the way, we compute the DMT of parallel MIMO channels in terms of the DMT of the component channel. For arbitrary ss-ss single-antenna directed acyclic networks with full-duplex relays, we prove that a linear tradeoff between maximum diversity and maximum multiplexing gain is achievable using an amplify-and-forward (AF) protocol. Explicit short-block-length codes are provided for all the proposed protocols. Two key implications of the results in the two-part paper are that the half-duplex constraint does not necessarily entail rate loss by a factor of two as previously believed and that simple AN protocols are often sufficient to attain the best possible DMT.

Ternary copper(II) complexes [Cu(L-trp)(B)(H2O)](NO3) ( 1–3) and [Cu(L-phe)(B)(H2O)](NO3) ( 4–6) of L-tryptophan (L-trp) and L-phenylalanine (L-phe) having phenanthroline bases (B), viz. 1,10-phenanthroline (phen, 1 and 4), dipyrido[3,2-d:2,3-f]quinoxaline (dpq, 2 and 5) and dipyrido[3,2-a:2,3-c]phenazine (dppz, 3 and 6), were prepared and characterized by physico-chemical techniques. Complexes 3 and 6 were structurally characterized by X-ray crystallography and show the presence of a square pyramidal (4 + 1) CuN3O2 coordination geometry in which the N,O-donor amino acid (L-trp or L-phe) and N,N-donor phenanthroline base bind at the equatorial plane with an aqua ligand coordinated at the elongated axial site. Complex 3 shows significant distortion from the square pyramidal geometry and a strong intramolecular – stacking interaction between the pendant indole ring of L-trp and the planar dppz aromatic moiety. All the complexes display good binding propensity to the calf thymus DNA giving an order: 3, 6 (dppz) > 2, 5 (dpq) > 1, 4 (phen). The binding constant (Kb) values are in the range of 2.1 × 104–1.1 × 106 mol-1 with the binding site size (s) values of 0.17–0.63. The phen and dpq complexes are minor groove binders while the dppz analogues bind at the DNA major groove. Theoretical DNA docking studies on 2 and 3 show the close proximity of two photosensitizers, viz. the indole moiety of L-trp and the quinoxaline/phenazine of the dpq/dppz bases, to the complementary DNA strands. Complexes 2 and 3 show oxidative DNA double strand breaks (dsb) of supercoiled (SC) DNA forming a significant quantity of linear DNA along with the nicked circular (NC) form on photoexposure to UV-A light of 365 nm and red light of 647.1 nm (Ar–Kr laser). Complexes 1, 5 and 6 show only single strand breaks (ssb) forming NC DNA. The red light induced DNA cleavage involves metal-assisted photosensitization of L-trp and dpq/dppz base resulting in the formation of a reactive singlet oxygen (1O2) species.
