Análise do tempo de ação de medicações intracanais sobre candida albicans, enterococcus faecalis, escherichia cole em canais radiculares

The purpose of this study was to evaluate in vitro the antimicrobial activity of intracanal medications against Candida albicans, Enterococcus faecalis, Escherichia coli present in root canals. It was used 24 single root human teeths, contaminated for 28 days and prepared with physiological saline solution as irrigation solution. The teeth were divided into 2 groups according to the intracanal medication used: 1) 2% gel chlorhexidine, 2) sterile and pyrogen free physiological saline solution. Samples were taken of the root canals immediately after instrumentation, 7 days after intracanal medication and 7 days after removal of intracanal medication. For all samples the antimicrobial activity was performed by plating method. All results were submitted to Mann-Whitney and Dunn's test with significance of 5%. There was significant reduction of microorganisms after instrumentation and the intracanal medication of 2% gel chlorhexidine completely eliminated C. albicans and E. coli, and significantly reduced E. faecalis. It was concluded that 2% gel chlorhexidine as intracanal medication for 7 days was effective on microorganisms

Molecular epidemiology of extended-spectrum-beta-lactamase-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae over a 10 year period in Calgary, Canada

A study was designed to investigate the molecular epidemiology of extended-spectrum -lactamase (ESBL)-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae isolated in a centralized region over a 10 year period (200009). Molecular characterization was done using isoelectric focusing, PCR and sequencing for bla(CTX-M), bla(TEM) and bla(SHV) genes and plasmid-mediated quinolone resistance determinants. Genetic relatedness was determined with PFGE using XbaI and multilocus sequencing typing. A total of 89 patients with incident infections were identified; the majority presented with hospital-onset urinary tract infections. The absolute number of ESBL-producing isolates remained very low until 2003, increased slightly in 2004, remained stable until 2008 and then in 2009 there was an abrupt increase in the numbers of ESBL producers identified. The majority of K. pneumoniae produced CTX-M-14 and -15, and have replaced SHV-12-producing isolates since 2005. We identified four different major sequence types (STs) among 32 of isolates (i.e. ST17, ST20, and the new ST573 and ST575) and provided insight into their clinical and molecular characteristics. The ST isolates were more likely to produce community-onset infections, were associated with bla(CTX-M) and emerged during the latter part of the study period. ST17 produced CTX-M-15 and SHV-12, and was more likely to be positive for qnrB; ST20 produced CTX-M-14 and was positive for qnrS. The multiresistant ST575 that produced CTX-M-15 appeared in 2009. Our study highlights the importance of molecular epidemiology in providing insight into the emergence, characteristics and distribution of STs among ESBL-producing K. pneumoniae.

Proposta traduttiva della sezione École de Danse del sito web dell’Opéra de Paris

Con questa tesi intendo presentare la mia proposta di traduzione della sezione “École de danse” del sito internet www.operadeparis.fr. Considerato che il numero di pagine previsto per l’elaborato finale di una laurea triennale è estremamente ridotto, sono stata costretta a fare una selezione delle parti da tradurre. La traduzione dell’intero sito web, infatti, avrebbe richiesto una trattazione molto più lunga e dettagliata, in quanto le informazioni riportate e gli argomenti affrontati sono davvero innumerevoli. Pertanto, ho scelto di incentrare il mio lavoro su quelle che sono le mie passioni: da un lato il chiodo fisso per la danza, arte che pratico da quando ero bambina e che adesso insegno ai più piccoli; dall’altro, l’amore per la Francia e, più nello specifico, per Parigi. Di conseguenza, mi è sembrato doveroso rendere omaggio a Parigi e alla danza applicando le mie conoscenze linguistiche all’ambito traduttivo. La mia tesi si articola dunque come segue. Il primo capitolo si focalizza sul concetto di lingua speciale, grazie all’approfondimento personale di testi sulla didattica e sulla prassi della traduzione specializzata, con particolare attenzione alla lingua speciale della danza. Nel secondo capitolo, affronterò la particolare modalità di scrittura del web, sul quale si incentra la mia traduzione, che sarà presentata immediatamente a seguire, nel terzo capitolo. Al termine della mia proposta traduttiva, sarà possibile trovare tutti i miei commenti relativamente agli aspetti morfosintattici, lessicali e terminologici presenti nelle parti da me selezionate al fine della traduzione. Per concludere, qualche osservazione finale sulla stesura dell’intero elaborato finale e bibliografia e sitografia da me consultate a supporto del mio lavoro di ricerca.

Book Review of “Human Behaviour and the Social Environment: Models, Metaphors, and Maps for Applying Theoretical Perspectives to Practice”. 640 pages, Thomson Brooks/Cole, 2007, by James A. Forte

This voluminous book which draws on almost 1000 references provides an important theoretical base for practice. After an informative introduction about models, maps and metaphors, Forte provides an impressive presentation of several perspectives for use in practice; applied ecological theory, applied system theory, applied biology, applied cognitive science, applied psychodynamic theory, applied behaviourism, applied symbolic interactionism, applied social role theory, applied economic theory, and applied critical theory. Finally he completes his book with a chapter on “Multi theory practice and routes to integration.”

Préparation à la transition de l'école obligatoire à la formation professionelle

Cette contribution analyse les contraintes et opportunités issus de la transition entre l’école obligatoire et la formation professionnelle en Suisse. L’ambition est de montrer que des facteurs psychologiques et structuraux sont essentiels pour comprendre les inégalités observées lors de cette transition. Les résultats de différentes études empiriques montrent que des facteurs associés à la personnalité, au support social, et à l’engagement personnel dans la préparation au choix de carrière ont une incidence sur les différences interindividuelles en termes d’adaptabilité de carrière et de congruence du choix professionnel tel qu’observés avant la transition. Les implications pour la pratique dans le domaine du conseil en orientation seront présentées.
