Cutaneous melanoma (CM) is a potentially lethal form of skin cancer and its most important histopathologic factor for staging is Breslow thickness (BT). Its correct determination is fundamental for pathologists. A deeper understanding of the molecular processes guiding CM pathogenesis could improve diagnosis, treatment and prognosis. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) play a key role in CM biology. The firs aim was to investigate miRNA expression in reference to BT assessment. We found that the combined miRNA expression of miR-21-5p and miR-146a-5p above or below 1.5 was significantly associated with overall survival and successfully identified all superficially spreading melanoma (SSM) patients with relapsing suggesting that the combined assessment of these miRNAs expression could aid in SSM staging. Secondly, we focus on multiple primary melanoma (MPM) patients, which develop multiple primary melanomas in their lifetime, and represent a model of high-risk CM occurrence. We explored the miRNome of single CM and MPM: CM and MPM present several dysregulated miRNAs, including key miRNAs involved in epithelial-mesenchymal transition. A different miRNA profile was observed between 1st and 2nd melanoma from the same patient. MiRNA target analysis revealed a more differentiated and less invasive status of MPMs compared to CMs. This characterization of the miRNA regulatory network of MPMs highlights molecular features differentiating this subtype from CM. Recently, NGS experiments revealed the existence of miRNA variants (isomiRs) with different length and sequence. We identified a shorter 3’isoform as tenfold over-represented compared to the canonical form of miR-125a-5p. Target analysis revealed that miRNA shortening could change the pattern of target gene regulation. Finally, we study miRNA and isomiR dysregulation in benign nevi (BN) and CM and in CM and melanoma metastasis. The reported non-random dysregulation of specific isomiRs contributes to the understanding of the complex melanoma pathogenesis and serves as the basis for further functional studies.

In this paper, we investigate the reducibility property of semidirect products of the form V *D relatively to (pointlike) systems of equations of the form x1 =...= xn, where D denotes the pseudovariety of definite semigroups. We establish a connection between pointlike reducibility of V*D and the pointlike reducibility of the pseudovariety V. In particular, for the canonical signature consisting of the multiplication and the (omega-1)-power, we show that V*D is pointlike-reducible when V is pointlike-reducible.

The use of simple and multiple correspondence analysis is well-established in socialscience research for understanding relationships between two or more categorical variables.By contrast, canonical correspondence analysis, which is a correspondence analysis with linearrestrictions on the solution, has become one of the most popular multivariate techniques inecological research. Multivariate ecological data typically consist of frequencies of observedspecies across a set of sampling locations, as well as a set of observed environmental variablesat the same locations. In this context the principal dimensions of the biological variables aresought in a space that is constrained to be related to the environmental variables. Thisrestricted form of correspondence analysis has many uses in social science research as well,as is demonstrated in this paper. We first illustrate the result that canonical correspondenceanalysis of an indicator matrix, restricted to be related an external categorical variable, reducesto a simple correspondence analysis of a set of concatenated (or stacked ) tables. Then weshow how canonical correspondence analysis can be used to focus on, or partial out, aparticular set of response categories in sample survey data. For example, the method can beused to partial out the influence of missing responses, which usually dominate the results of amultiple correspondence analysis.

During these last decades, the notion of primary intersubjectivity has gained acceptance among developmentalists and clinicians. But a new challenge is put out to our models by recent findings on the triangular competence of the very young infant, or her capacity to simultaneously communicate with two partners at a time. This discovery raises the question of a collective form of intersubjectivity. Findings on the triangular competence of the 3- to 4-month-old interactions with father and mother in different contexts of the Lausanne trilogue play situation are reviewed and illustrated, with a view to examine whether it is based on a dyadic or triangular program and whether conditions for a threesome form of primary intersubjectivity are fulfilled. The discussion focuses on the revisions of the theory of intersubjectivity, of developmental theory, and of clinical practice these findings call for, pointing toward a three -person psychology too.

In this work we develop the canonical formalism for constrained systems with a finite number of degrees of freedom by making use of the PoincarCartan integral invariant method. A set of variables suitable for the reduction to the physical ones can be obtained by means of a canonical transformation. From the invariance of the PoincarCartan integral under canonical transformations we get the form of the equations of motion for the physical variables of the system.

The front form and the point form of dynamics are studied in the framework of predictive relativistic mechanics. The non-interaction theorem is proved when a Poincar-invariant Hamiltonian formulation with canonical position coordinates is required.

Infants use their social competence very early to communicate not only in dyads but also in triads, in particular in the triangle they form with their mother and father. The development of this triangular communication is largely shaped by the ways the parents support or undermine each other in relation to their child. Whereas triangular communication is facilitated in "two for one" alliances, it is recruited in the service of regulating the parents' conflicts in "two against one" coalitions. These processes are manifest in toddlerhood and may be traced back to the coparenting alliance in formation during pregnancy.

The effects of magnetic dilution and applied pressure on frustrated spinels GeNi2O4, GeCo2O4, and NiAl2O4 are reported. Dilution was achieved by substitution of Mg2+ in place of magnetically active Co2+ and Ni2+ ions. Large values of the percolation thresholds were found in GeNi(2-x)MgxO4. Specifically, pc1 = 0.74 and pc2 = 0.65 in the sub-networks associated with the triangular and kagome planes, respectively. This anomalous behaviour may be explained by the kagome and triangular planes behaving as coupled networks, also know as a network of networks. In simulations of coupled lattices that form a network of networks, similar anomalous percolation threshold values have been found. In addition, at dilution levels above x=0.30, there is a T^2 dependency in the magnetic heat capacity which may indicate two dimensional spin glass behaviour. Applied pressures in the range of 0 GPa to 1.2 GPa yield a slight decrease in ordering temperature for both the kagome and triangular planes. In GeCo(2-x)MgxO4, the long range magnetic order is more robust with a percolation threshold of pc=0.448. Similar to diluted nickel germanate, at low temperatures, a T^2 magnetic heat capacity contribution is present which indicates a shift from a 3D ordered state to a 2D spin glass state in the presence of increased dilution. Dynamic magnetic susceptibility data indicate a change from canonical spin glass to a cluster glass behaviour. In addition, there is a non-linear increase in ordering temperature with applied pressure in the range P = 0 to 1.0 GPa. A spin glass ground state was observed in Ni(1-x)MgxAl2O4 for (x=0 to 0.375). Analysis of dynamic magnetic susceptibility data yield a characteristic time of tau* = 1.0x10^(-13) s, which is indicative of canonical spin glass behaviour. This is further corroborated by the linear behaviour of the magnetic specific heat contribution. However, the increasing frequency dependence of the freezing temperature suggests a trend towards spin cluster glass formation.

The long time–evolution of disturbances to slowly–varying solutions of partial differential equations is subject to the adiabatic invariance of the wave action. Generally, this approximate conservation law is obtained under the assumption that the partial differential equations are derived from a variational principle or have a canonical Hamiltonian structure. Here, the wave action conservation is examined for equations that possess a non–canonical (Poisson) Hamiltonian structure. The linear evolution of disturbances in the form of slowly varying wavetrains is studied using a WKB expansion. The properties of the original Hamiltonian system strongly constrain the linear equations that are derived, and this is shown to lead to the adiabatic invariance of a wave action. The connection between this (approximate) invariance and the (exact) conservation laws of pseudo–energy and pseudomomentum that exist when the basic solution is exactly time and space independent is discussed. An evolution equation for the slowly varying phase of the wavetrain is also derived and related to Berry's phase.

Linear three-dimensional modal instability of steady laminar two-dimensional states developing in a lid-driven cavity of isosceles triangular cross-section is investigated theoretically and experimentally for the case in which the equal sides form a rectangular corner. An asymmetric steady two-dimensional motion is driven by the steady motion of one of the equal sides. If the side moves away from the rectangular corner, a stationary three-dimensional instability is found. If the motion is directed towards the corner, the instability is oscillatory. The respective critical Reynolds numbers are identified both theoretically and experimentally. The neutral curves pertinent to the two configurations and the properties of the respective leading eigenmodes are documented and analogies to instabilities in rectangular lid-driven cavities are discussed.

In this talk we show a construction for characterising developable surfaces in the form of Bézier triangular patches. It is shown that constructions used for rectangular patches are not useful, since they provide degenerate triangular patches. Explicit constructions of non-degenerate developable triangular patches are provided.
