Survey map and description of William Hamilton Merritt's land created by The Welland Canal Company. Included is a written description of the land along with a drawing of the land. The drawing also includes John Hainer's Land. Noteable features include; saw mill, salt works, line between Hainer's and Merritt's land,line between John Clendennan's and Merritt's land, road, bridge, tow path, 12 mile creek and canal. Surveyor notes are seen in pencil on the map. The survey was signed and submitted on August 23rd, 1826. The land is 17 acres, 3 roads and 20 perches.

Arranjo produtivo moveleiro da Região Tocantina

O presente trabalho visa analisar o desenvolvimento econômico do setor produtivo moveleiro da Região Tocantina do Estado do Maranhão na perspectiva da sua formação quanto as características estruturais e evolutivas no que tange as Pequenas e Micro Empresas (PMEs), aos processos de aprendizagem e inovações, bem como a existência de experiência em cooperação entre as empresas constitutivas dos referido arranjo local. A indústria de móveis de madeira foi selecionada para este trabalho, entre outras razões, porque está inserida no setor de base florestal amazônico, com preponderância das PMEs com forte relevância na criação de emprego e renda na região. Até a década de 80, a denominada região tocantina se caracterizou como uma grande reserva florestal e pela existência um enorme número de empresas na extração e beneficiamento de madeira que ocasionou a escassez desse recurso natural. Este processo culminou com a transformação de algumas serrarias remanescentes em serrarias/marcenarias, serrarias/movelarias e fábricas de móveis. Daí, a maneira suigêneres do surgimento da indústria moveleira tocantina.

Notebook of Tristram Gilman, 1757-1761

The small volume holds the notebook of Tristram Gilman interleaved on unlined pages in a printed engagement calendar. The original leather cover accompanies the notebook, but is no longer attached. The inside covers of the original leather binding are filled with scribbled words and notes. The volume holds a variety of handwritten notes including account information, transcriptions of biblical passages and related observations, travel information, community news, weather, and astronomy. The volumes does not follow a chronological order, and instead seems to have been repurposed at various times.

Laboratory and mill scale evaluation of biopulping of Eucalyptus grandis Hill ex Maiden with Phanerochaete chrysosporium RP-78 under non-aseptic conditions

Biopulping of Eucalyptus grandis wood chips with Phanerochaete chrysosporium RP-78 was evaluated under non-aseptic conditions in laboratory and mill wood-yard. The ability of P. chrysosporium to compete with indigenous fungi present in fresh wood chips was notorious under controlled laboratory experiments. A subsequent step involved an industrial test performed with 10-ton of fresh wood chips inoculated and maintained at 37 +/- 38 degrees C for 39 days in a biopulping pilot plant. Biotreated wood chips were pulped in a chemithermomechanical pulping mill. Net energy consumption during refining was 745 kWh ton(-1) and 610 kWh ton(-1) of processed pulp for control and biotreated wood chips, respectively. Accordingly, 18.5% net energy saving could be achieved. Biopulps contained lower shive content and had improved strength properties compared to control pulps. Tensile index improved from 25 +/- 1 N m g(-1) to 33.6 +/- 0.5 N m g(-1) and delamination strength from 217 +/- 19 kPa to 295 +/- 30 kPa.

Integration of a Bioethanol Process to a Pulp Mill

Tässä diplomityössä tutkittiin puuhakkeen esihydrolyysi- ja hakkuujätteen hydrolyysiprosessien integroimista sellutehtaaseen bioetanolin tuottamiseksi. Tällaisesta ns. biojalostamosta luotiin WinGEMS-simulointiohjelmalla simulointimalli, jonka avulla tutkittiin bioetanoliprosessin vaikutusta sellutehtaan massa- ja energiataseisiin sekä alustavaa biojalostamon kannattavuutta. Simuloinnissa tarkasteltiin kolmea eri tapausta, joissa mäntysellun tuotannon ajateltiin olevan 1000 tonnia päivässä ja hakkuujätettä käytettävän 10 % tarvittavan kuitupuun määrästä: 1) Puuhakkeen esihydrolyysi ja hakkuujätteen hydrolyysi etanolin tuottamiseksi 2) Puuhakkeen esihydrolyysi, hakkuujäte kuorikattilaan poltettavaksi 3) Ei esihydrolyysiä, hakkuujäte kuorikattilaan poltettavaksi Verrattuna tapaukseen 3, puun kulutus kasvaa 16 % esihydrolysoitaessa puuhake ennen keittoa tapauksissa 1 ja 2. Kasvaneella puun kulutuksella tuotetaan tapauksessa 1 149 tonnia etanolia ja 240 MWh enemmän ylimääräsähköä päivässä. Tapauksessa 2 tuotetaan 68 tonnia etanolia ja 460 MWh enemmän ylimääräsähköä päivässä. Tämä tuottaisi vuotuista lisäkassavirtaa 18,8 miljoonaa euroa tapauksessa 1 ja 9,4 miljoonaa euroa tapauksessa 2. Hydrolyysin tuoteliuoksen, hydrolysaatin, haihduttaminen sekä hydrolyysiprosessien orgaanisten jäännöstuotteiden haihduttaminen ja polttaminen kasvattavat haihduttamon ja soodakattilan kuormitusta. Verrattuna tapaukseen 3, tapauksissa 1 ja 2 haihduttamon vaiheiden määrä on kasvatettava viidestä seitsemään ja tarvittavat lämmönsiirtopinta-alat lähes kaksinkertaistettava. Soodakattilan kuormitus kasvaa 39 % tapauksessa 1 ja 26 % tapauksessa 2.
