Nas últimas décadas, investigações têm destacado o papel da história e filosofia da ciência (HFC) na educação científica. O reconhecimento da pluralidade e complexidade da ciência tem originado estudos, os quais apontam que o ensino sobre ciências deve levar em conta as diferenças entre as disciplinas científicas. Assim, tem-se discutido a importância da consideração de elementos da história e da filosofia da química no aprimoramento do processo de ensino e aprendizagem dessa ciência. Apesar disso, investigações têm constatado que pouco ou nada se discute acerca desses assuntos nas aulas de ciências. Diante disso, esta dissertação tem como intuito investigar a concepção de professores de química sobre a inclusão de elementos da HFC no ensino, com foco nas características inerentes às práticas e aos conhecimentos químicos. Foram investigadas as concepções de cinco professores de química, que atuam em diferentes escolas públicas da região metropolitana de São Paulo, acerca de cinco temas, elaborados com base em estudos da área de ensino de ciências e em diretrizes curriculares oficiais: relações com a sociedade, modelos e modelagem, experimentação, desenvolvimento histórico e reducionismo. Por meio da análise qualitativa dos dados, as concepções docentes, para cada tema, foram classificadas em dois subeixos temáticos: prática docente e relevância. Ademais, foram identificados fatores externos e internos que influenciam as práticas e concepções dos sujeitos concernentes a considerações filosóficas, históricas e sociológicas sobre a química. Os resultados evidenciam que, de modo geral, os sujeitos consideram relevantes determinados assuntos relacionados à natureza da química e, em certa medida, buscam inseri-los em suas práticas cotidianas. Contudo, mostraram também que os motivos pelos quais os docentes conferem importância a algumas discussões, e o modo como as desenvolvem, podem limitar a compreensão dos estudantes sobre a complexidade da construção do conhecimento científico. Além disso, foram raras as referências a aspectos específicos da química, à importância de evidenciar e discutir esses aspectos com os estudantes, assim como à preparação de situações didáticas próximas à prática química autêntica.

The post-Arab Spring period in Morocco has undergone different stages of changing state-society relations with regard to democracy, citizenship and human rights. The first stage, between February 2011 and the summer of 2013, was characterised by popular protests demanding democracy and freedom. People criticised public policies related to civil, political and social rights (employment, health, education, the status of women, and the issue of Amazigh). This outburst put the state in an awkward, defensive position. If we compare Morocco with the other Arab Spring countries, the Moroccan state’s reaction was moderate in its use of violence and repression, and it was positive, in that it resulted in the implicit, yet official acceptance of the demands for democracy, citizenship and battling corruption. In his speech on 9 March 2011, the king pledged to modify the Constitution and democratise the institutions.

Influenced by both conservative and left wing communitarian thinking, current debate about welfare governance in Australia reflects an inflated evaluation of the potential role of the third sector or civil society organisations in the production fo welfare. This paper gives an overview of twentieth century Australian Catholics social thinking about state, market and civil society relations in the production of welfare. It highlights the neglected, historical role of the Catholic Church in promoting a 'welfare society' over a 'welfare state' in Australia. It points to the reasons for the Church's later embrace of the welfare state and suggests that these reasons should make us deeply sceptical of the current communitarian fad.

According to the textbook approach, the developmental states of the Far East have been considered as strong and autonomous entities. Although their bureaucratic elites have remained isolated from direct pressures stemming from society, the state capacity has also been utilised in order to allocate resources in the interest of the whole society. Yet, society – by and large –has remained weak and subordinated to the state elite. On the other hand, the general perception of Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) has been just the opposite. The violent and permanent conflict amongst rent-seeking groups for influence and authority over resources has culminated in a situation where states have become extremely weak and fragmented, while society – depending on the capacity of competing groups for mobilising resources to organise themselves mostly on a regional or local level (resulting in local petty kingdoms) – has never had the chance to evolve as a strong player. State failure in the literature, therefore, – in the context of SSA – refers not just to a weak and captured state but also to a non-functioning, and sometimes even non-existent society, too. Recently, however, the driving forces of globalisation might have triggered serious changes in the above described status quo. Accordingly, our hypothesis is the following: globalisation, especially the dynamic changes of technology, capital and communication have made the simplistic “strong state–weak society” (in Asia) and “weak state–weak society” (in Africa) categorisation somewhat obsolete. While our comparative study has a strong emphasis on the empirical scrutiny of trying to uncover the dynamics of changes in state–society relations in the two chosen regions both qualitatively and quantitatively, it also aims at complementing the meaning and essence of the concepts and methodology of stateness, state capacity and state-society relations, the well-known building blocks of the seminal works of Evans (1995), Leftwich (1995), Migdal (1988) or Myrdal (1968).

While there is considerable literature on neoliberalism in and of nature and the environment as well as in the interface between climate change and globalization, attempts at marrying the various conceptualizations of these have been limited. In this paper, I briefly review a portion of the literature on climate change and globalization (both broadly defined) locating the connections and disconnections on the topic. I then attempt to synthesize some of the ideas and problems expressed in many of these existing approaches to develop a Deleuzoguattarian approach to the intersections of climate change and globalization across spaces and scales. Finally, I argue that a non-linear historical materialism provides a way of addressing the limitations in existing frameworks.

Some years ago visitors and natives had a different way of enjoying the landscape of the coastal villages located in Santa Elena Province, in Ecuador. Nowadays natives of those towns are concerned about the emergent tourist industry, which is not just offering lodging but also it is increasing the construction of vacation homes or second homes. This development is showing notorious social and spatial changes in those coastal towns. Since 80's, the real-estate investments in vacation homes have not stopped. In addition, it has been increasing year in year out, to the north of the Province. Nowadays there are not just homes but also luxury complex of buildings attracting more and more seasonal tourists. This real estate growing has been constantly changing the landscape and shaping the economy of those towns. The authorities in this province are aware of those effects citing in the Province's Master Plan of Development the lack of land use policies. This study aims to describe the socioeconomic activity of coastal villages located in Santa Elena Province, which - during many years - have a resource-based economy: agriculture and fishing economy; but during this last years they have been trying to switch it to tourism. The analysis of spatial changes of the landscape and its effects as a consequence of the land use is another goal of this work. Finally, this study describes the quest of new natural tourist attractions that villagers and stakeholders have taken recently. Ce mémoire a pour but de faire une analyse du roman de Choderlos de Laclos Les Liaisons dangereuses et de répondre à quatre questions primordiales, à savoir : -Quelle représentation de l’homme et de la femme apparaît dans le roman de Choderlos de Laclos et quelle est la nature des relations entre les personnages des deux sexes ? - S’agit-il d’une condamnation ou d’une illustration du libertinage ? -Quels ont été les effets moraux de ce livre sur la société du XVIIIème siècle ? -Quelle était l’attitude de l’auteur par rapport aux femmes ? Afin de répondre à ces quatre questions primordiales, nous avons décidé de faire une analyse du roman, mais aussi de nous intéresser à la sociologie de la littérature et plus exactement sur l’horizon d’attente et la réception de l’oeuvre. Nous avons aussi utilisé la correspondance écrite entre Choderlos de Laclos et Mme Riccoboni afin d’établir l’attitude de l’auteur par rapport aux femmes. Pour conclure, nous démontrerons que l’auteur était en avance sur son temps et n’était aucunement misogyne et oeuvrait pour l’amélioration de éducation des femmes.

The framework by which organizations are governed has been changed. A reason for this change is related with the force of stakeholders that compel the political power and the business society to review the ways in which companies are governed. Stakeholder thinking has gradually put this change at the center of research into business and society relations. Based on the stakeholder thinking, the corporate regulation framework has extended a new dimension in the business and society interface. This article assesses these issues.

Hunter-gatherers are often ascribed a “monistic” worldview at odds with the nature-society dichotomy. The centerpiece of this claim is that they view hunting as similar to sharing within the band and prey animals as part of a common sphere of sociality. This article challenges this thesis. An examination of the work of its main proponents shows that it conflates two different senses of “animal”—the flesh-and-blood animals of the hunt and the animal Spirit that is said to control the animals. The sharing motif in hunting makes sense with respect to the anthropomorphic Spirit but not to the animals hunted. The conditions of the hunt as a spatiotemporal event provide further grounds for skepticism toward the idea of hunting-as-sharing. Drawing on biologist Robert Hinde’s model of relationships, I argue that hunting represents an anonymous one-off interaction that cannot develop into a personal relationship, in stark contrast to the durable forms of personalized sociality associated with the hunter-gatherer band. This is not to deny the possibility of human-animal cosociality in the form of personal relationships but rather to redirect the search away from the hunt to the interface with domesticated animals.
