The brass gudgeon (Coreius heterodon) is a fish of economic importance in the Yangtze River. From a (GATA)(n)-enriched genomic library, 25 microsatellites were developed by employing the fast isolation by AFLP of sequences containing repeats (FIASCO) protocol. Nine loci exhibited polymorphism with two to 12 alleles (mean 3.9 alleles/locus) in a test population, and observed heterozygosity ranged from 0.1111 to 0.9630 (mean 0.4426). Three of the nine loci showed polymorphism in a congeneric species, the largemouth bronze gudgeon Coreius guichenoti. These loci should provide sufficient level of genetic diversity to evaluate the fine-scale population structure of C. heterodon.

This paper describe a Ru(bpy)(3)(2+) based electrochemiluminescence (ECL) method to detect procyclidine in human urine following separation by capillary electrophoresis (CE). An ECL detection cell was designed for post-column addition of Ru(bpy)(3)(2+). Parameters affecting separation and detection were optimized, leading to a detection limit of 1 x 10(-9) mol/l in an on-capillary stacking mode. For application in urine, a cartridge packed with slightly acidic cation-exchange resin was used to eliminate the matrix effects of urine and improve the detection sensitivity. Extraction recovery was nearly 90%.

Tangential flow affinity membrane cartridge (TFAMC) fs a new model of immunoadsorption therapy for hemoperfusion. Recombinant Protein A was immobilized on the membrane cartridge through Schiff base formation for extracorporeal IgG and immune complex removal from blood. Flow characteristics, immunoadsorption capacity and biocompatibility of protein A TFAMC were studied. The results showed that the pressure drop increased with the increasing flow rate of water, plasma and blood, demonstrating reliable strength of membrane at high now rare. The adsorption capacities of protein A TFAMC for IgG from human plasma and blood were measured. The cartridge with 139 mg protein A immobilized on the matrix (6 mg protein A/g dry matrix) adsorbed 553 mg IgG (23.8 mg IgG/g dry matrix) from human plasma and 499.4 mg IgG (21.5 mg IgG/g dry matrix) from human blood, respectively. The circulation time had a major influence on IgG adsorption capacity, but the flow rate had little influence. Experiments in vitro and in vivo confirmed that protein A TFAMC mainly adsorbed Ige and Little of other plasma proteins, and that blood cell damage was negligible. The extracorporeal circulation system is safe and reliable. Copyright (C) 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

As with Liminal Lines, this work explores the boundaries between distinct and contrasting musical genres. The use of live electronics within the brass band idiom is novel, particularly in relation to the use of sensors with brass band instruments.

Brass Surveying Compass with a 6 1/2 inch diameter silvered brass dial signed E. and G.W. Blunt of New York. There is a fleur-de-lis at the north point and the outer needle ring is engraved 0-90 in four quadrants. There is an engraved central pattern, blue steel hand and brass lifter, shaped limbs and a brass dial cover. This belonged to Samuel DeVeaux Woodruff who was a Civil Engineer. It also belonged to R.D.W. Band who was also a Civil Engineer. Also, One 13 cm. brass spindle taper for the surveying compass, n.d
