Growth interruption was introduced after the deposition of GaAs cap layer, which is thinner than the height of quantum dots. Uniformity of quantum dots has been enhanced because the full-width of half-maximum of photoluminescence decrease from 80 to 27 meV in these samples as the interruption time is increased. Meanwhile, we have observed that the peak position of photoluminescence is a function of interruption time, which can be used to modulate energy level of quantum dots. All of the phenomenon mentioned above can be attributed to the diffusion of In atoms from the tops of InAs islands to the top of GaAs cap layer caused by the difference between the surface energies of InAs and GaAs. The size-armed polystyrenes and poly-(methyl methacrylate)s with a triphenylene core showed different self-assembling patterns, isolated cylinders for polySt on mico and highly ordered cylindrical pores for polyMMA on a silicon water. With a decrease of polymer concentration in tetrahydrofuran (HHF), the size and height of cylinders decreased for polySt, but fur polyMMA, the size and depth of the cylindrical pores increased. Slow evaporation of the solvent and a low molecular weight favored the formation of regular patterns.

The electrode reaction process of ascorbic (Vc) was studied by in-situ circular dichroic(CD) spectroelectrochemistry with a long optical path thin layer cell on glassy carbon(GC) electrode. The spectroelectrochemical data were analyzed by the double logarithmic method together with nonlinear regression. The results suggested that the mechanism of Ve in pH 7.0 phosphate buffer solution at GC electrode was a two-electron irreversible electrooxidation followed by adsorption of the oxidation product. That is a self-accelerated process. Some kinetic parameters at free and at adsorbed electrode surface, i.e, the formal potentials, E-0' = 0.09 V, E-a(0') = 0.26 +/- 0.02 V; the electron transfer coefficient and number of transfered electron, alpha n = 0.41, alpha(a)n = 0.07;the standard heterogeneous electron transfer rate constant, k(0) = 8.0 x 10(-5) cm.s(-1), k(a)(0) = 1.9 x 10(-4) cm.s(-1) and adsorption constant, beta = 102.6 were also estimated.

The interfacial characteristics of poly-L-lysine (PL) attached on self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) of 3-mercaptopropionic acid (MPA) were studied by an electrochemical method. The results indicated that PL\MPA layer inhibited partly the diffusion process of redox species in solution, and the electrode surface behaved like a microelectrode array. Its permeation effect was also strongly affected by Mg2+. The more Mg2+ ions were added into the electrolyte solution, the greater the difficulty with which the electron transfer of potassium ferricyanide took place. The three different conformations of PL on the electrode surface had different influences on the electron transfer processes of ferricyanide. PL in random coil state hindered most strongly the electron transfer behavior of ferricyanide,while the alpha-helical PL had nearly no effect and the effect of the beta-sheet state PL was intermediate of these. The preparation and cyclic voltammetric behaviors of self assembled monolayers (SAMs) containing electroactive viologen group have been investigated. Treatment of this viologen SAM with solutions of alkanethiols remits in replacing the electroactive third, shifting negatively its formal potentials and decreasing its heterogeneous elixtron transfer constants along with the immersion time. The aim of the work is to understand the exchange regularity of the mixed SANK on gold electrode surface.

Electroactive self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) containing viologen group are formed through the adsorption of thiol-functionalized viologen compound CH3(CH2)(9)V2+(CH2)(8)SH, where V2+ is N,N'-dialkylbipyridinium (i.e. a viologen group), onto gold electrodes from methanol/water solution and its electrochemical behavior is investigated ty Ac voltammetry and square wave voltammetry, which have the high sensitivity against background charging. The viologen SAM formed is a sub-monolayer and the normal potentials corresponding to the two successive one-electron transfer processes of the active centers (viologen) are -360 mV and -750 mV (vs. Ag/AgCl) in 0.1 mol/L phosphate buffer solutions (pH 6.96) respectively, and the standard electron transfer rate constant is 9.0 s(-1). The electrochemical behavior of this SAM in various solutions has been preliminarily discussed.

This commentary links Humphrey and Sui’s proposed Self-attention Network (SAN) to the memory advantage associated with self-relevant information (i.e., the self-reference effect). Articulating this link elucidates the functional quality of the SAN in ensuring that information of potential importance to self is not lost. This adaptive system for self-processing mirrors the cognitive response to threat stimuli, which also elicit attentional biases and produce characteristically enhanced, episodic representations in memory. Understanding the link between the SAN and memory is key to comprehending more broadly the operation of the self in cognition.

The behaviour of a self-assembled monolayer of 2-mercaptobenzimidazole (MBI) at the Au(111) electrode has been examined using cyclic voltammetry and in situ FTIR spectroscopy. The charge associated with the reductive desorption is pH independent while the oxidative partial redeposition charge increases when the pH is lowered. This is due to differences between the nature and the solubility of the MBI desorption product. In alkaline and neutral media MBI desorbs as the thiolate. In contrast, in acidic solutions the thiol is the desorbed product. Subtractively normalized interfacial reflection Fourier transform absorption spectroscopy (SNIFTIRS) has been applied to investigate the MBI monolayer in contact with aqueous solutions of different pH. The SNIFTIRS data are in agreement with the electrochemical results. Moreover, quantitative analysis of the IR data provided evidence that adsorbed MBI molecules assume a tilted orientation with an angle of 60±5° between the C2 axis of the molecule and the direction normal to the gold surface. © 2003 Elsevier B.V. Maria Tamboukou links Foucauldian ideas to feminism and education. Its central argument is that the Foucauldian notion of 'technologies of the self' needs to be gendered and contextualized. This argument is pursued through a genealogical analysis of auto/biographical narratives of women educators at the turn of the nineteenth century. This is a new theoretical approach, since Foucault's work has proved to be of great interest to feminist scholars, but as yet, his theroies have only intermittently been used in educational feminist work. The genealogical analysis of situated female sujectivities has highlighted the importance of space in the 'technologies of the female self' and has reconsidered the private/public couplet. It has acted as a continuous source of uncertainty, experimenting with Foucauldian questions of what we are, of how we have become what we are, but also and perhaps most importantly of how we can become other than what we are already.

Blogging software has popularly been used as a mode of writing about everyday life to interact with others. This thesis examines the political potentials that are opened up by self-reflective blogging. The self-reflective blog is a synergy of self-reflective practices and computer-mediated communication. A genealogy of the history of computer-mediated communication and various public self-reflective practices is conducted to uncover affect as the utility of various economies of subject production. Efforts made to blog-like the efforts made to interact online in other CMCs-are positioned as a kind of affective labor. Adapting Hardt and Negri's (2005) theorization of the multitude, whereby affective labor-the production of social relationshipsis a kind ofbiopolitical production, affect will be determined as a kind ofbiopolitical power that exists in everyday life.
