Compared with other existing methods, the feature point-based image watermarking schemes can resist to global geometric attacks and local geometric attacks, especially cropping and random bending attacks (RBAs), by binding watermark synchronization with salient image characteristics. However, the watermark detection rate remains low in the current feature point-based watermarking schemes. The main reason is that both of feature point extraction and watermark embedding are more or less related to the pixel position, which is seriously distorted by the interpolation error and the shift problem during geometric attacks. In view of these facts, this paper proposes a geometrically robust image watermarking scheme based on local histogram. Our scheme mainly consists of three components: (1) feature points extraction and local circular regions (LCRs) construction are conducted by using Harris-Laplace detector; (2) a mechanism of grapy theoretical clustering-based feature selection is used to choose a set of non-overlapped LCRs, then geometrically invariant LCRs are completely formed through dominant orientation normalization; and (3) the histogram and mean statistically independent of the pixel position are calculated over the selected LCRs and utilized to embed watermarks. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed scheme can provide sufficient robustness against geometric attacks as well as common image processing operations. (C) 2010 Elsevier B.V. This paper investigates the application of complex wavelet transforms to the field of digital data hiding. Complex wavelets offer improved directional selectivity and shift invariance over their discretely sampled counterparts allowing for better adaptation of watermark distortions to the host media. Two methods of deriving visual models for the watermarking system are adapted to the complex wavelet transforms and their performances are compared. To produce improved capacity a spread transform embedding algorithm is devised, this combines the robustness of spread spectrum methods with the high capacity of quantization based methods. Using established information theoretic methods, limits of watermark capacity are derived that demonstrate the superiority of complex wavelets over discretely sampled wavelets. Finally results for the algorithm against commonly used attacks demonstrate its robustness and the improved performance offered by complex wavelet transforms.

This paper deals with the problem of digital audio watermarking using echo hiding. Compared to many other methods for audio watermarking, echo hiding techniques exhibit advantages in terms of relatively simple encoding and decoding, and robustness against common attacks. The low security issue existing in most echo hiding techniques is overcome in the timespread echo method by using pseudonoise (PN) sequence as a secret key. In this paper, we propose a novel sequence, in conjunction with a new decoding function, to improve the imperceptibility and the robustness of time-spread echo based audio watermarking. Theoretical analysis and simulation examples illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed sequence and decoding function.

In this paper, a novel bipolar time-spread (TS) echo hiding based watermarking method is proposed for stereo audio signals, to overcome the low robustness problem in the traditional TS echo hiding method. At the embedding, echo signals with opposite polarities are added to both channels of the host audio signal. This improves the imperceptibility of the watermarking scheme, since added watermarks have similar effects in both channels. Then decoding part is developed, in order to improve the robustness of the watermarking scheme against common attacks. Since these novel embedding and decoding methods utilize the advantage of two channels in stereo audio signals, it significantly reduces the interference of host signal at watermark extraction which is the main reason for error detection in the traditional TS echo hiding based watermarking under closed-loop attack. The effectiveness of the proposed watermarking scheme is theoretically analyzed and verified by simulations under common attacks. The proposed echo hiding method outperforms conventional TS echo hiding based watermarking when their perceptual qualities are similar.

In audio watermarking, the robustness against pitch-scaling attack, is one of the most challenging problems. In this paper, we propose an algorithm, based on traditional time-spread(TS) echo hiding based audio watermarking to solve this problem. In TS echo hiding based watermarking, pitch-scaling attack shifts the location of pseudonoise (PN) sequence which appears in the cepstrum domain. Thus, position of the peak, which occurs after correlating with PN-sequence changes by an un-known amount and that causes the error. In the proposed scheme, we replace PN-sequence with unit-sample sequence and modify the decoding algorithm in such a way it will not depend on a particular point in cepstrum domain for extraction of watermark. Moreover proposed algorithm is applied to stereo audio signals to further improve the robustness. Experimental results illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm against pitch-scaling attacks compared to existing methods. In addition to that proposed algorithm also gives better robustness against other conventional signal processing attacks.

This paper presents a patchwork-based watermarking method for stereo audio signals, which exploits the similarity of the two sound channels of stereo signals. Given a segment of stereo signal, we first compute the discrete Fourier transforms (DFTs) of the two sound channels, which yields two sets of DFT coefficients. The DFT coefficients corresponding to certain frequency range are divided into multiple subsegment pairs and a criterion is proposed to select those suitable for watermark embedding. Then a watermark is embedded into the selected subsegment pairs by modifying their DFT coefficients. The exact way of modification is determined by a secret key, the watermark to be embedded, and the DFT coefficients themselves. In the decoding process, the subsegment pairs containing watermarks are identified by another criterion. Then the secret key is used to extract the watermark from the watermarked subsegments. Compared to the existing patchwork methods for audio watermarking, the proposed method does not require knowledge of which segments of the watermarked audio signal contain watermarks and is more robust to conventional attacks.

A new fragile logo watermarking scheme is proposed for public authentication and integrity verification of images. The security of the proposed block-wise scheme relies on a public encryption algorithm and a hash function. The encoding and decoding methods can provide public detection capabilities even in the absence of the image indices and the original logos. Furthermore, the detector automatically authenticates input images and extracts possible multiple logos and image indices, which can be used not only to localise tampered regions, but also to identify the original source of images used to generate counterfeit images. Results are reported to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

A new principled domain independent watermarking framework is presented. The new approach is based on embedding the message in statistically independent sources of the covertext to mimimise covertext distortion, maximise the information embedding rate and improve the method's robustness against various attacks. Experiments comparing the performance of the new approach, on several standard attacks show the current proposed approach to be competitive with other state of the art domain-specific methods.

A domain independent ICA-based approach to watermarking is presented. This approach can be used on images, music or video to embed either a robust or fragile watermark. In the case of robust watermarking, the method shows high information rate and robustness against malicious and non-malicious attacks, while keeping a low induced distortion. The fragile watermarking scheme, on the other hand, shows high sensitivity to tampering attempts while keeping the requirement for high information rate and low distortion. The improved performance is achieved by employing a set of statistically independent sources (the independent components) as the feature space and principled statistical decoding methods. The performance of the suggested method is compared to other state of the art approaches. The paper focuses on applying the method to digitized images although the same approach can be used for other media, such as music or video.
