A field oriented control (FOC) algorithm is simulated and implemented for use with a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM). Rotor position is sensed using Hall effect switches on the stator because other hardware position sensors attached to the rotor may not be desirable or cost effective for certain applications. This places a limit on the resolution of position sensing – only a few Hall effect switches can be placed. In this simulation, three sensors are used and the position information is obtained at higher resolution by estimating it from the rotor dynamics, as shown in literature previously. This study compares the performance of the method with an incremental encoder using simulations. The FOC algorithm is implemented using Digital Motor Control (DMC) and IQ Texas Instruments libraries from a Simulink toolbox called Embedded Coder, and downloaded into a TI microcontroller (TMS320F28335) known as the Piccolo via Code Composer Studio (CCS).

This paper is concerned with the integration of voice and data on an experimental local area network used by the School of Automation, of the Indian Institute of Science. SALAN (School of Automation Local Area Network) consists of a number of microprocessor-based communication nodes linked to a shared coaxial cable transmission medium. The communication nodes handle the various low-level functions associated with computer communication, and interface user data equipment to the network. SALAN at present provides a file transfer facility between an Intel Series III microcomputer development system and a Texas Instruments Model 990/4 microcomputer system. Further, a packet voice communication system has also been implemented on SALAN. The various aspects of the design and implementation of the above two utilities are discussed.

En este articulo se presentan y contrastan, de acuerdo tanto a la suma de los cuadrados de los residuos como a la existencia de puntos atípicos, en los modelos lineales que están disponibles en las calculadoras Texas Instruments TI-82 y TI-83. Al mismo tiempo se demuestra la facilidad con que algunos de los cálculos tradicionales relacionados pueden llevarse a cabo, cuando por razones de tipo pedagógico se estime conveniente.

Although literature presents several alternatives, an approach based on the electronic analogy was still not considered for the implementation of an inductor-free realization of the double scroll Chua`s circuit. This paper presents a new inductor-free configuration of the Chua`s circuit based on the electronic analogy. This proposal results in a versatile and functional inductorless implementation of the Chua`s circuit that offers new and interesting features for several applications. The analogous circuit is implemented and used to perform an experimental mapping of a large variety of attractors.

Sete ocorrências auriferas estão inseridas na Seqüência Campestre do Complexo Bossoroca, no Escudo Sul-rio-grandense, municípios de São Sepé, no Estado do Rio Grande do Sul. Nessa região, foi realizado um aerolevantamento geofisico no qual foram coletados dados magnetométricos e aerogamaespectrométricos (K, U, Th e contagem total), em convênio finnado entre órgãos federais brasileiros (CPRM, DNPM e CNEN) e a empresa canadense Texas Instruments no período 1972-1973. Nessa dissertação são apresentados as interpretações e resultados dos dados e a metodologia utilizada para a interpretação das principais estruturas magnéticas e radiométricas visando aplicação na exploração mineral de ouro. Esse tipo de processamento, correlacionado aos dados geológicos, é uma prática usual de campanhas de prospecção mineral desde 1940 e é considerada como uma ferramenta de grande potencial para esse propósito. O processamento de dados magnetométricos forneceu mapas de primeira e segunda derivadas verticais, sinal analítico, gradiente horizontal, integral vertical, continuação para cima (1000, 2000 e 3000 metros) e seus principais lineamentos do campo magnético residual. Os dados foram tratados e posterionnente transfonnados em mapas de contorno e imagens pseudocoloridos e em tons de cinza com relevo sombreado (iluminação N, NE e SE) para realçar os principais lineamentos. Os mapas produzidos a partir dos dados aerogamaespectrométricos foram os de contagem total, K, U e Th, suas razões Th/K, U/K e UITh; mapas temários nos padrões RGB e CMY, potássio e urânio anômalos e parfunetro F, também foram transfonnados em mapas de contorno, pseudocolridos e tons de cinza com relevo sombreado (iluminação a N, NE e SE) e um mapa geológico interpretativo da região do Complexo Bossoroca As imagens magnetométricas mostraram-se importantes na caracterização estrutural regional, possibilitando a identificação de lineamentos NE-SW e NW-SE, não mapeados anterionnente e que podem estar relacionadas diretamente às ocorrências auriferas da região do Complexo Bossoroca. A aplicação das técnicas de processamento e interpretação de estruturas magnéticas por meio dos filtros como gradiente horizontal, primeira e segunda derivada, sinal analítico, continuação para cima, possibilitaram a determinação de descontinnidades fisicas que podem ser traduzidas em estruturas geológicas. O processamento de dados aerogamaespectrométricos possibilitou a caracterização de unidades geológicas regionais, a identificação de possíveis trends e zonas anômalas em potássio, relacionadas com as principais ocorrências auriferas da região. As imagens ternárias nos padrões RGB e CMY pennitiram a distinção e a caracterização das grandes unidades geológicas. Pode-se individualizar três regiões principais dentro da Seqüência Campestre, não mapeadas anterionnente, onde se encontram as ocorrências auriferas.

The purpose of this project was to investigate the effect of using of data collection technology on student attitudes towards science instruction. The study was conducted over the course of two years at Madison High School in Adrian, Michigan, primarily in college preparatory physics classes, but also in one college preparatory chemistry class and one environmental science class. A preliminary study was conducted at a Lenawee County Intermediate Schools student summer environmental science day camp. The data collection technology used was a combination of Texas Instruments TI-84 Silver Plus graphing calculators and Vernier LabPro data collection sleds with various probeware attachments, including motion sensors, pH probes and accelerometers. Students were given written procedures for most laboratory activities and were provided with data tables and analysis questions to answer about the activities. The first year of the study included a pretest and posttest measuring student attitudes towards the class they were enrolled in. Pre-test and post-test data were analyzed to determine effect size, which was found to be very small (Coe, 2002). The second year of the study focused only on a physics class and used Keller’s ARCS model for measuring student motivation based on the four aspects of motivation: Attention, Relevance, Confidence and Satisfaction (Keller, 2010). According to this model, it was found that there were two distinct groups in the class, one of which was motivated to learn and the other that was not. The data suggest that the use of data collection technology in science classes should be started early in a student’s career, possibly in early middle school or late elementary. This would build familiarity with the equipment and allow for greater exploration by the student as they progress through high school and into upper level science courses.

In recent years, a considerable number of teachers in Spain have been using DERIVE to teach math subjects in High Schools and Universities. This software has been used by the authors of this work as a support tool in Mathematics courses for Engineering. Since Texas Instruments does not support DERIVE, we were faced with finding an alternative software product, and considering the possibility of using a public-domain software such as MAXIMA. Here we make a comparative study of DERIVE and MAXIMA as support tools for a Calculus course for first year Engineering students.

En este proyecto se desarrolla un sistema electrónico para variar la geometría de un motor de un monoplaza que participa en la competición Fórmula SAE. Fórmula SAE es una competición de diseño de monoplazas para estudiantes, organizado por “Society of Automotive Enginners” (SAE). Este concurso busca la innovación tecnológica de la automoción, así como que estudiantes participen en un trabajo real, en el cual el objetivo es obtener resultados competitivos cumpliendo con una serie de requisitos. La variación de la geometría de un motor en un vehículo permite mejorar el rendimiento del monoplaza consiguiendo elevar el par de potencia del motor. Cualquier mejora en del vehículo en un ámbito de competición puede resultar determinante en el desenlace de la misma. El objetivo del proyecto es realizar esta variación mediante el control de la longitud de los tubos de admisión de aire o “runners” del motor de combustión, empleando un motor lineal paso a paso. A partir de la información obtenida por sensores de revoluciones del motor de combustión y la posición del acelerador se debe controlar la distancia de dichos tubos. Integrando este sistema en el bus CAN del vehículo para que comparta la información medida al resto de módulos. Por todo esto se realiza un estudio aclarando los aspectos generales del objetivo del trabajo, para la comprensión del proyecto a realizar, las posibilidades de realización y adquisición de conocimientos para un mejor desarrollo. Se presenta una solución basada en el control del motor lineal paso a paso mediante el microcontrolador PIC32MX795F512-L. Dispositivo del fabricante Microchip con una arquitectura de 32 bits. Este dispone de un módulo CAN integrado y distintos periféricos que se emplean en la medición de los sensores y actuación sobre el motor paso a paso empleando el driver de Texas Instruments DRV8805. Entonces el trabajo se realiza en dos líneas, una parte software de programación del control del sistema, empleando el software de Microchip MPLABX IDE y otra parte hardware de diseño de una PCB y circuitos acondicionadores para la conexión del microcontrolador, con los sensores, driver, motor paso a paso y bus CAN. El software empleado para la realización de la PCB es Orcad9.2/Layout. Para la evaluación de las medidas obtenidas por los sensores y la comprobación del bus CAN se emplea el kit de desarrollo de Microchip, MCP2515 CAN Bus Monitor Demo Board, que permite ver la información en el bus CAN e introducir tramas al mismo. ABSTRACT. This project develops an electronic system to vary the geometry of a car engine which runs the Formula SAE competition. Formula SAE is a design car competition for students, organized by "Society of Automotive Engineers" (SAE). This competition seeks technological innovation in the automotive industry and brings in students to participate in a real job, in which the objective is to obtain competitive results in compliance with certain requirements. Varying engine’s geometry in a vehicle improves car’s performance raising engine output torque. Any improvement in the vehicle in a competition field can be decisive in the outcome of it. The goal of the project is the variation by controlling the length of the air intake pipe or "runners" in a combustion engine, using a linear motor step. For these, uses the information gathered by speed sensors from the combustion engine and by the throttle position to control the distance of these tubes. This system is integrated in the vehicle CAN bus to share the information with the other modules. For all this is made a study to clarify the general aspects of the project in order to understand the activities developed inside the project, the different options available and also, to acquire knowledge for a better development of the project. The solution is based on linear stepper motor control by the microcontroller PIC32MX795F512-L. Device from manufacturer Microchip with a 32-bit architecture. This module has an integrated CAN various peripherals that are used in measuring the performance of the sensors and drives the stepper motor using Texas Instruments DRV8805 driver. Then the work is done in two lines, first, control programming software system using software MPLABX Microchip IDE and, second, hardware design of a PCB and conditioning circuits for connecting the microcontroller, with sensors, driver stepper motor and CAN bus. The software used to carry out the PCB is Orcad9.2/Layout. For the evaluation of the measurements obtained by the sensors and CAN bus checking is used Microchip development kit, MCP2515 CAN Bus Monitor Demo Board, that allows you to see the information on the CAN bus and enter new frames in the bus.

El Hogar Digital Accesible (HDA) de la ETSIST nace con el propósito de acercar las nuevas Tecnologías de la Información a las personas que precisan de necesidades concretas de accesibilidad y usabilidad, dotándoles de herramientas que les permitan aumentar su calidad de vida, confort, seguridad y autonomía. El entorno del HDA consta de elementos de control para puertas, persianas, iluminación, agua o gas, sensores de temperatura, incendios, gas, sistemas de climatización, sistemas de entretenimiento y sistemas de seguridad tales como detectores de presencia y alarmas. Todo ello apoyado sobre una arquitectura de red que proporciona una pasarela residencial y un acceso a banda ancha. El objetivo principal de este PFG ha sido el desarrollo de un sistema de autenticación para el Hogar Digital Accesible de bajo coste. La idea de integrar un sistema de autenticación en el HDA, surge de la necesidad de proteger de accesos no deseados determinados servicios disponibles dentro de un ámbito privado. Algunos de estos servicios pueden ser tales como el acceso a la lectura de los mensajes disponibles en el contestador automático, el uso de equipos multimedia, la desconexión de alarmas de seguridad o simplemente la configuración de ambientes según el usuario que esté autenticado (intensidad de luz, temperatura de la sala, etc.). En el desarrollo han primado los principios de accesibilidad, usabilidad y seguridad necesarios para la creación de un entorno no invasivo, que permitiera acreditar la identidad del usuario frente al sistema HDA. Se ha planteado como posible solución, un sistema basado en el reconocimiento de un trazo realizado por el usuario. Este trazo se usará como clave de cara a validar a los usuarios. El usuario deberá repetir el trazado que registró en el sistema para autenticarse. Durante la ejecución del presente PFG, se justificará la elección de este mecanismo de autenticación frente a otras alternativas disponibles en el mercado. Para probar la aplicación, se ha podido contar con dos periféricos de distintas gamas, el uDraw creado para la PS3 que se compone de una tableta digitalizadora y un lápiz que permite recoger los trazos realizados por el usuario de forma inalámbrica y la tableta digitalizadora Bamboo de Wacom. La herramienta desarrollada permite a su vez, la posibilidad de ser usada por otro tipo de dispositivos como es el caso del reloj con acelerómetro de 3 ejes de Texas Instruments Chronos eZ430 capaz de trasladar los movimientos del usuario al puntero de un ratón. El PFG se encuentra dividido en tres grandes bloques de flujo de trabajo. El primero se centra en el análisis del sistema y las tecnologías que lo componen, incluyendo los distintos algoritmos disponibles para realizar la autenticación basada en reconocimiento de patrones aplicados a imágenes que mejor se adaptan a las necesidades del usuario. En el segundo bloque se recoge una versión de prueba basada en el análisis y el diseño UML realizado previamente, sobre la que se efectuaron pruebas de concepto y se comprobó la viabilidad del proyecto. El último bloque incluye la verificación y validación del sistema mediante pruebas que certifican que se han alcanzado los niveles de calidad necesarios para la consecución de los objetivos planteados, generando finalmente la documentación necesaria. Como resultado del trabajo realizado, se ha obtenido un sistema que plantea una arquitectura fácilmente ampliable lograda a través del uso de técnicas como la introspección, que permiten separar la lógica de la capa de negocio del código que la implementa, pudiendo de forma simple e intuitiva sustituir código mediante ficheros de configuración, lo que hace que el sistema sea flexible y escalable. Tras la realización del PFG, se puede concluir que el producto final obtenido ha respondido de forma satisfactoria alcanzando los niveles de calidad requeridos, siendo capaz de proporcionar un sistema de autenticación alternativo a los convencionales, manteniendo unas cotas de seguridad elevadas y haciendo de la accesibilidad y el precio sus características más reseñables. ABSTRACT. Accessible Digital Home (HDA) of the ETSIST was created with the aim of bringing the latest information and communications technologies closer to the people who has special needs of accessibility and usability increasing their quality of life, comfort, security and autonomy. The HDA environment has different control elements for doors, blinds, lighting, water or gas, temperature sensors, fire protection systems, gas flashover, air conditioning systems, entertainments systems and security systems such as intruders detectors and alarms. Everything supported by an architecture net which provides a broadband residential services gateway. The main goal of this PFG was the development of a low-cost authentication system for the Accessible Digital Home. The idea of integrating an authentication system on the HDA, stems from the need to safeguard certain private key network resources from unauthorized access. Some of said resources are the access to the answering machine messages, the use of multimedia devices, the alarms deactivation or the parameter settings for each environment as programmed by the authenticated user (light intensity, room temperature, etc.). During the development priority was given to concepts like accessibility, usability and security. All of them necessary to create a non invasive environment that allows the users to certify their identity. A system based on stroke pattern recognition, was considered as a possible solution. This stroke is used as a key to validate users. The user must repeat the stroke that was saved on the system to validate access. The selection of this authentication mechanism among the others available options will be justified during this PFG. Two peripherals with different ranges were used to test the application. One of them was uDraw design for the PS3. It is wireless and is formed by a pen and a drawing tablet that allow us to register the different strokes drawn by the user. The other one was the Wacom Bamboo tablet, that supports the same functionality but with better accuracy. The developed tool allows another kind of peripherals like the 3-axes accelerometer digital wristwatch Texas Instruments Chronos eZ430 capable of transfering user movements to the mouse cursor. The PFG is divided by three big blocks that represent different workflows. The first block is focused on the system analysis and the technologies related to it, including algorithms for image pattern recognition that fits the user's needs. The second block describes how the beta version was developed based on the UML analysis and design previously done. It was tested and the viability of the project was verified. The last block contains the system verification and validation. These processes certify that the requirements have been fulfilled as well as the quality levels needed to reach the planned goals. Finally all the documentation has been produced. As a result of the work, an expandable system has been created, due to the introspection that provides the opportunity to separate the business logic from the code that implements it. With this technique, the code could be replaced throughout configuration files which makes the system flexible and highly scalable. Once the PFG has finished, it must therefore be concluded that the final product has been a success and high levels of quality have been achieved. This authentication tool gives us a low-cost alternative to the conventional ones. The new authentication system remains security levels reasonably high giving particular emphasis to the accessibility and the price.
